  • My old tires had finally worn down on my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 WK2 and it was time for me to get some new tires. I shopped around online and finally settled on the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks. I really liked the aggressive look of these tires as well as the promise of both on road and off-road performance. I've been running them for a couple of months now and it's started to rain here in Oregon and I have to say these are a HUGE upgrade over my old tires. They are very quiet and ride really smooth. I haven't had a chance to take them off-road yet, but as soon as I do I'll post a follow up video so you can see how they do off-road. I definitely recommend these tire if you're like me and you're looking for a compromise between daily driver and having wheels underneath you they you feel confident taking into the dirt, sand, and mud. Probably not for the hard core rock climber, but if you're a hard core rock climber, you're probably not rolling in a Wk2.

    I put Rugged Trek on my ‘11 Xterra Pro-4x, and have had them for about 8k miles, still so smooth and very quiet. I keep my pressure low at like 28/29 psi, seems crazy but I was starting to notice at higher pressures that the center of the tire was getting most of the contact. Also back in July I went to South Padre Island, Texas and drove a bit in some soft sand and begun to loos traction from a stand still and engaged 4Lo and the tires just crawled me right out 👍, even great traction and no loss of confidence on wet roads. This is a great tire.

      That's super interesting. I run mine at 36psi. I'll have to take a look at my tires and see if the center of the tire is getting most of the contact like you noticed. I'll go down to 20psi when I go off road but haven't had the chance yet with my new tires

      @@Moretimethanmoney I noticed after coming off a dusty construction road/or gravel…then a drive on pavement…after parking, I noticed the outer lugs and treads were “dusty” compared to the center most portion of the tire looking clean and dark

      @@allenwhite5652 rain, yes…solid performance, no loss of confidence operating at in-town/highway speeds due to decreased traction. Snow, maybe I’ll be able to update in about a month after I get back from Colorado.

      I’m getting these put on my GC in a few days, love the look, are you getting wear on the center tread only when you drop the psi? Did yours have the 3peak snowflake?

    Nice GC. I got the same Winter Chill WK2 and was searching for an aggressive looking tire for a while now. Think I’m sold.

    How is the noise level, ride etc. ???? I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and narrowed it down between these and the Falken Wildpeak AT3 which seems to be the most popular tire on the JGC forums! Keep us updated!

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před 2 lety +1

      I would say the road noise is about the same. My AT3s were pretty worn down by the time I replaced them. I expected to get a lot more road noise with the Rugged Treks, but they are just as quiet on the highway and street driving. I've driven down to southern Oregon a couple of times and was really happy with the highway ride. What's more important is that it's started raining here and these things have performed like champs in the rain. No slippage, gripping the street like I'm wearing cleats. The ski resorts aren't open yet, but as soon as they do I'll be in the mountains seeing how they do in the snow and I'll update.

    How's the ride?some tires u feel every imperfection in the road in the steering wheel and some not ..how are these?I have the general atx are like that yet comfortable mother explained it like a bumpy cloud.i have also heard the cooper rugged treks ,u can feel the lugs when you stop....do these seem like a good riding tire or do u feel the road alot with these tires

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem +1

      Just drove from Portland to Seattle and back on Sunday (go Hawks). I think they ride good. But you call out a good point. You do feel the lugs and you can hear some road noise. You don't feel it in the steering wheel, it's more of a general rumble while you are driving. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't really noticed it, but if you really like a silky smooth ride, these tires probably aren't for you. If you rolled around on mud tires these tires will feel like you're riding on a cloud.

    Hey like the video, I’ve been researching reviews of these tires to use on my Ram. How do you like them 6 months in? Still relatively quiet? Thanks in advance

      It's funny, I notice the noise now more than when I first got them, but I would say they're still relatively quiet.

      @Moretimethanmoney  Před 2 lety

      Mark sure you double check your tire size. It should be printed on the driver side door. Mine came with 20" wheels so I have 265/50R20. But this year Overland model could've come with either 18 or 20" wheels.

    • @andyp1031

    What psi do you keep your tires at? I’m in a JGC Trailhawk and the guy who put them on filled it to 40psi. So I was just curious. Thanks

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! I run my tires at 36psi. There's a sticker on the trim inside the driver side door that lists the manufacturer recommended psi for your tires.

    • @cptcurtsaur86
      @cptcurtsaur86 Před 2 lety +1

      I’m guessing that load rating of the tires to weight of the vehicle might better determine what psi makes the tires happy. I have a ‘11 Pro-4X Xterra and I have my tires comfortable and showing even wear across the width of the tire at 29 psi.

      @lex4758 Před 2 lety

      Don't go by factory door. That is for the tires that the factory chose for their vehicles. Those factory tires are usually load P or SL. Most aftermarket tires are different loads. Go by what those tires require.
