Eastern cottontails are easy to kill with these homemade rabbits sticks. If I'm in a survival situation in a area with predators I first make a spear and two throw sticks down and dirty and after needs are met I either make better throw sticks or cordage for traps

Out of boredom in my mothers far I’ve found that an excellent hunting weapon can be made out of a 18” length of 3/8” rebar. It’s cheap, flies far, hits hard and you can carry a few of them at a time
So 18” and slightly curved is the best?
Dave just my proffered version for me... some like boomerang style, others straight, or even a bend over the whole stick... mine I like a straight one that had a slight bend towards the end... I've even seen J Hooks used

My necklace was made by my mother over 30 years ago.. It's basically my Survival Warrior Tailsman. It is very sacred and spiritual to me and has been on many many adventures with me. Though Miami Christian to my core I worship in a very Personal and spiritual way that is connected through nature. This necklace protects me from negative energy. Helps you with my prayers and guides me when times get tough.
It is made up of 3 things as 3 is an important number in my life:
An Arrowhead that represents my Warrior Spirit as a Warrior, Soldier, and Fighter as well as a tribute to my ancient past and ancestors... as I have both Native American and Viking Blood.
A Clear Crystal as a reminder to keep My Mind, Body, and Soul Cleared, Straight, and Ready as well as to project my prayers and gifts.
And Lastly the Darker Stone which is actually translucent like glass...is a pice of a meteorite called MOLDAVITE...an exterestreial Stone that has heavenly energies and gifts... lots of guarding powers and legend has it ... each piece has BUT ONE owner... called Guiding Lights or Pathfinders... look it up... if you are not supposed to have it... it will lose you, or you lose it, or bad things will keep coming in your life.
My Mom has replicas of it over at her Esty Site MyImpressions By Dianne Finno she uses a Tecyte in place of the Moldavite and use an Obsidian Arrowhead.

Some would see this as primitive and lesser, to those nieve people i say this, the skill required to be able to use these to actually catch prey Is up there with the level of skill snipers use, it's a stick, that your trying to throw, by hand , at a target moving nearly 10m/s no bigger than 30 cm more than 10m away, takes a massive amount of skill and mastering it which I hope to one day is proof of one's hunting ability

I did this with a rabbit a few years back. I was surprised how well it worked. My throw had to of been luck to do it for the first time and hit one.

I never understood why i dont see more people make a simple sling for hunting small game. I know they take a bit of practice to get good at. But its still a primative, basic, but effective, weapon for hunting small game. To me it always seemed like a no brainer. Why do you guys all think most people avoid slings. Thoughts?
I think its mainly something that as you said takes some practice at ...so therefore when in a Survival Situation trying to hunt you are needing something quick and a throwing stick is easy and can almost be found already to go on the ground. Most folks can sling a stuck east enough without much practice. A sling takes alot of technique and practice to master. I agree ...a good weapon but when you're hungry... most folks will opt for something they feel more comfortable with. #ej
Yea. I saw a bunch of videos on how to make your own sling very easy. I think ill try it out and see if incan get decent. Wiuld be fun if nothing else. And cheaper than target shooting with my rifle. Heh.

@EJSnyder333 You have the same eyes as a guy I knew growing up, and the same surname. Although his first name was Jason. The guy was excellent in all the sports he played, and his dad was a hunter. I doubt you are him, but the thought crossed my mind.

@chainsawchanselour5452 ah gotcha... not necessarily... yes they can be... I've flattened mine out some but mostly try to make them as aerodynamic as possible. Def for the boomerang type ones yes
@EJSnyder333 may help with the range to flatten one side and airfoil the other! Not sure how to carve that successfully. Hey I have trouble hearing what you said about your mongoose kill on video. Did you say that's in your first episode of naked and afraid?
@partydean17 agreed. Like I said I like to shape mine to be more aerodynamic. And yes in my S1 Ep2 Tanzania I hit a Moongoose with one.

That’s just a stick a rabbit stick is similar to a boomerang and can travel much farther, much faster and with much more power then that stick. However, that stick is still effective.
Thx for you comment Jeremy...Of course it's effective... I've used it with great success many times on many adventuresin the wild as i stated... with great accuracy and effectiveness! As you can see by my video. In the video I explained the various versions, types, and names and demonstrated with my prefered Throwing Stick or Rabbit Stick [as described in the US Army Survival Manual FM 21-76] to each their own on which shape or design they like to use...and "NO" a Rabbit Stick is NOT just a Boomerang Shape by Survival Protocols, it's just a shape some prefer... I personally find it wonky... though I know others are better skilled with it then i...I go with the shape I showed because I'm a tomahawk and axe thrower and the slight curved Stick as more in line with my skill set. I've seen both used as effectively...
...especially by my friends from Down Under. In Naked and Afraid Season1 Ep2...I used this same design to take out a running Mongoose at 20 yards through brush... yum 😋... my point to your comment is...don't limit yourself or trip over design or names... in Survival never limit your options and if gets you dinner...Guess what...it's an effective survival hunting weapon... NOPE...been using that one for many years. It's fire hardened ...so little chance for it breaking ... almost as hard as stone
