The honours system has never been and never will be honourable. I respect those that refuse.

How is it even legal to nominate someone you know, let alone a family member for an honour?
    Best regards

It's informally known as the 'Hat system'.
Here in the UK, a person can be multiple people depending on the 'hat' they're wearing. In the case of a Prime Minister, they can make separate statements as the leader of the country and the leader of their political party. In this case, Boris wasn't recommending his father as his son, but as the Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party.
It's basically a system invented by UK politicians to make favouritism, nepotism and being two-faced legitimate actions.

Petition for people to have served one full, uninterrupted Parliamentary term as Prime Minister before they have the right to nominate honours or financial allowances after leaving office.

Why are they called the MBEs ? The British Empire no longer exists,
surely the awards should be named the Commonwealth Awards and the awards be named Orders of the Commonwealth - The OCs and Members of the Commonwealth - the MCs ?

There’s always been a joke in our family that MBE stands for my bloody effort and OBE stands for others bloody effort.
