Today we're looking at the historical appearance and clothing of Lawmen in the American West. For this week I used a variety of photo archives from the late-1800s, and the Library of Congress' Newspaper Archives. As for secondary sources, I used Jeremy Agnew's 'The Old West in Fact and Film: History vs Hollywood,' (which I recommend highly), and tables and figures from “Criminologists and Historians of Crime: A Partnership Well Worth Pursuing,” and "Homicide Rates in the American West" by Randolph Roth. About Man vs History: Man vs History is a CZcams channel that endeavors to combine both education and entertainment, specifically related to history. While the focus of the channel will expand beyond analyzing the historical accuracy of RDO, for the time being, there's still more quality videos to come on the topic. For the past decade I've been history professor at the college level. The knowledge and skills I acquired through my educational journey and profession are put to work in the creation of these videos, allowing me to locate rare primary source materials, analyze them carefully, and coherently deliver the content in an entertaining and educational manner.
For each one I conduct an immense amount of research, scouring American and British archives, books, and scholarly journal articles. Gratefully, my profession also grants me access to a network of historical experts & specialists including authors, university professors, and museum curators. I hope you enjoy the end result!
    Music:
Main Track: Western Spaghetti- Chris Haugen. Available on CZcams Audio Library.
Outro Track: Jazz Me Blues - E's Jammy Jams. Available on CZcams Audio Library.

Ha! Honestly, I think a lot of it has to do with how studying the past effects your perspective. You witness both the epic glories and miserable failures of human history, which helps you learn to just take life in stride. I'm 39 and I feel like I've been alive for a thousand years, and seen it all. Not joking btw. Now everything seems like small stuff. The news will mention something about a riot or protest somewhere and without thinking I find myself commenting to my wife something along the lines of 'That's nothing, you should have seen it in Paris in 1789. Now THAT was a riot!' as if I was there. Funny... it feels so much like a memory of mine that I could swear I was there. I suppose it's our collective memory after all... History is a funny thing when you dedicated your life to it.

It's pretty often in video games, especially in Red Dead, that we see lawmen as the bad guys and outlaws as the good guys. I like the beginning of this video the most just because I feel like sometimes it's good to remind ourselves that lawmen, despite how pesky they are in the game and how corrupt they can be in real life, overall they're a force for good. I always thought Tom Horn got shafted, by the very people who needed him the most. When they needed him.
Until, they didn't need him anymore. But, evidently he did confess to an undercover, in a Bar, up in your neck of the woods, about things he had done including shooting the kid. Cant tell you how much we enjoy your work Professor. Thanks🐎👍

My bounty hunting attire in-game is the same as my usual western attire, faded blue or black denim pants, scuffed black or brown boots, not tucked. Faded red plaid work shirt, although for the occasions when i am tracking a bounty down, i will usually throw on a lighter brown/cream colored cowboy hat, and a brown or black jacket with some kind of fur around the collar.
Edit: Hair is usually worn in a medium-long fashion, slightly messy, with a muttonstache or trimmed beard, very much a woodsman vibe.

I figuard it out, how Rockstar can integrate the law man/bandit role.
75 Gold Bars to get the role.
Bandit: low honor, get`s the mission to kill that (deputy)marshal from the story.
(law man): high honer, you get deputiesed by the state marshal to revenge the story marshal.
As a bandit you can rob trains, banks, coaches, npcs. For the first you get a decent amount of money (20-500 $) and GOLD (3-5 Bars). But for doing them you get high bountys (up to 1000 Dollars) and the deputy marshals (other Palyers) can hunt you down. Also they can interfear the robberies.
As deputy marshal you can do the former mentioned tasks (simular to player bountys now) and you have a permanet income (100 Dollar and 0,5 Gold) per hour (real live). Also random encounters( sheriff ask you to help...) in the citys that can depanding on the encounter pays (5.0-45 $)
