  • This is another prerequisite mod that will take your build to the next level. With a free flow exhaust system we are eliminating any performance barricades, which helps the engine breathe a lot better and results in 6% increase in hp & torq. You will also feel better throttle response, less engine breaking and of course a neck turning sound.
    Installation: I recommend loosely fitting the headers and mufflers and tighten the mufflers first then middle bolt then the headers to get the perfect fit.
    There are other muffler brands but I found this to be the top notch as I compared the build quality, performance, and sound.

      These header pipes will not disappoint you as far as weight saving, performance, and sound! However, if your looking to take out even more weight then I would recommend the 2-1 exhaust system where both header pipes combine into one muffler on the right side but like you said for most of us it comes down to breaking the bank or not.

    I heard these are difficult in fitment. Did you encounter this? I was also looking at Verex which are easy to do.

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +2

      Hi Jay, thanks for watching. The fitment is quite simple for the mufflers as you will have to simply slide on the new muffler unto the stock headers and tighten the clamp carefully to avoid air leakage. If your installing headers then its little complicated but nothing that can't be done. For headers you will need to place the new copper gaskets, reuse the rubber bushing that mount to the frame and removing the oxygen sensor from stock headers to install on the new headers, I explained all this in the video.
      The trick here is to loosely install everything and start tightening from the rear (muffler to mid bolt then header bolts) to front for a perfect fitment, hope this helps.

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching Vishnu, changing mufflers shouldn’t void your warranty since we just replacing a part, however changing headers will void your warranty if you take it to dealership for service because with headers you have to install new copper gaskets and there’s no catalytic converters in the new headers. But I would recommend to check with local dealership first as they might have different laws!

      Are the US models different from Euro 5?

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +2

      Hi @chewyfknrocks, there’s is definitely a difference between euro 4 and euro 5 models. Simplist way to identify these is by the colors these bikes were launched depending on the year or you can look at the ECU as it will indicate the model.
      Now euro 4 ecu is a lot easier to tweak and will adapt automatically to the mods. But euro 5 ecu is stubborn where it will throw error codes, for example if you use a booster plug on euro 5 it will eventually throw a code where as euro 4 will work just fine.
      Another, great difference is the euro 5 models do not have the secondary air injection system.
      Some others changes are Catalytic convertor,
      New purge valve and O2 sensor, Higher powered ignition coil, Introduction of second MAP sensor for RH cylinder and throttle body modified to accommodate ECU change from Bosch to Continental.

      Hi @radchills, seems like it’s a EURO 5, however even within 2022 year there are some EURO 4s. I would recommend to remove the seat and look at the ECU. If the ECU is flat with yellow decal its EURO4, if the ECU has a bump in the middle and pinkish decal on top then its EURO 5. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    is it good to use the stock muffler with the upgraded header or stock header with aew muffler?

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching Rahul, I would recommend to upgrade the muffler first as that will get you the most sound, performance and weight reduction! Since the mufflers weight more than the header pipes so definitely smart idea to ditch the stock mufflers. If later you find yourself the need for more performance and even louder exhaust tone, then I would recommend upgrading the headers which is little more involved with O2 sensor and header gasket. Upgrading the header pipes will make it a free flow exhaust system as it removes the catalytic converter for those horsepower gains. Hope this helps!

    I recently bought a continental GT650 but i don't like the twin exhaust which goes all the way to the rear, i just want to remove it and have a minimalistic look, is it ok to do that? i just need the drag pipes to be there and would end just under the footrest of the driver. is it okay ?

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +1

      Hi Akshat, since you recently bought a GT650, I'm guessing its a new model with 'EURO 5' ECU, which is a lot more strict than 'EURO 4' ECU. I do not recommend running just the header pipes alone because it has an updated O2 sensor, and the exhaust tune will be jumping notes and it wont be a pleasant sound, plus in long run it can ruin the piston rings due to back pressure even thou the stock header pipes have welded catalytic convertors.
      I would recommend this setup from BAAK
      (www.baakmotocyclettes.com/en/interceptor-continental-gt-650/3393-short-exhaust-650-interceptor-continental-gt)
      These headers are freeflow(No catalytic convertor) but the mufflers have baffles which fights the backpressure. These end right where the footpegs are located as you want.
      Second option , I would recommend, mufflers that are on meteor models, or even old school interceptor. Something like this (www.ebay.com/itm/373735954213?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1c1qMwy0PQUyNSq7NiPgw1w6&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=373735954213&targetid=1644837434603&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9032139&poi=&campaignid=16743749222&mkgroupid=138744546207&rlsatarget=pla-1644837434603&abcId=9300842&merchantid=550394938&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_bieBhDSARIsADU4zLe6eo6DYYv9C5mcktcjFZGZdxZw6Z1C9tm3XOPaOE9ZpIUOp39dxwQaAgetEALw_wcB)
      These will be straight back instead of curved upwards like the stock canon mufflers. The curve is due to the stock header pipes as they direct the canon mufflers upwards. You can get straight header pipes so when you mount the muffler it will be straight back. (Like the Royal Enfield classic models) Hope this helps, and congrats on the new GT650!

    Hey, quick question.. isn't the bike runs lean and gets overheated after installing performance air filter and free flow exhausts? have you got ECU remapped for desired AFR? I have installed K&N air filter with free flow mufflers but my bike is overheating like anything.. as suggested in many videos, I did left the bike idling for 15 mins after installing these mods to get ECU Acclimatized. still facing overheating issues. Thanks

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching R.S, the overheating problem is not related with mufflers or headers. The stock headers are dual wall and stock mufflers have honey cone filter with tunnel routes which traps the heat within them for a longer time. However, with these after market headers as they are single wall the heat dissipates faster, same with mufflers because no heat is trapped inside the exhaust system. For example, if you ride the stock bike for 15 mins and let it sit for 10 mins the exhaust will be still mild hot, where as if you ride a bike with aftermarket exhaust for 15 mins and within 3-4 mins of bike sitting the exhaust will cool down due to heat dissipation of single wall and free flow system. Also, remember these are not just air cooled engines, these are both air and liquid cooled. I would suggest to run synthetic oil but these machines are manufactured in India so keeping the local environment in consideration, it should not overheat at all, these are designed to handle the heat. Plus the temperature sensor will throw a check engine light if the ECU suspects the engine is too hot. Alternative solution, you can run an electric fan on the radiator or even get a bigger radiator installed but that would be an overkill for this bike lol.
      Now, onto the air filter, yes with the aftermarket filters we are introducing more air into the throttle body but trick here is you have to let the bike idle for 10-15mins so the ECU can learn the new idle air pressure that is sent to the throttle body so it can give the injectors the signal to inject the correct amount of fuel ratio. These aftermarket filters will make the bike run a little lean at first but you have to ride 4-5 times on constant cursing speeds so the ECU can learn and adapt to the new air pressure and volume of the air so it can correct fuel ratio. I had the same issue but after couple rides the bike runs fine now. Alternative, you can attach a booster plus that will give a false signal to the ECU that the air is colder which will inject more fuel but I do not recommend that because booster plus is confusing the system and fuel/air ratio can never be correct, but what I would recommend is power commander tool that you can customize the mapping for performance or street style rides but even that is not needed. If I was to install bigger throttle body and pod filters which I know will increase the air flow tremendously then I would install mapping tool. These machines should not get overheating problems, there is a group of folks in Mexico that have turned these interceptors into scramblers and ride them in desert so that should tell how easily it can handle the heat lol, I would also recommend to get the cooling hard lines inspected from the dealership to make sure its not the oil lines. Hope this helps, enjoy your INT650 man!

      I have added aftermarket exhaust systems to a half dozen different bikes in the last few years; 3 Triumphs, a Kawa ninja and my INT650...NONE of the instructions from 4 different manufacturers said to idle the engine excessively, that is abusive; ride it through the gears to acclimate the ECU. Avoid the heat-soak.

    • @GrewalsGarage
      @GrewalsGarage  Před rokem +2

      @frederick woods, in the real world no one really idles their engine for 10 mins, of course that is going to create heat as there’s no air to engine to air cool or to radiator to liquid cool. The idle strategy is recommended when you change the air filter not the exhaust or muffler as exhaust is outlet so ECU doesn’t care how much air is existing out. This is not required but recommended! I still recommend this as there are few reasons, first these bikes or actually all EURO 5 standard bikes are more towards the lean side of the graph from factory and as your adding more air to it thru high flow air filter it is going to make the mixture even more leaner. The idle tactic is there so the ECU can adapt to the new idle pressure. Second, I recommend taking it for 3-4 rides and riding at constant speed so ECU adapts to the new airflow volume, which you also mentioned cycling thru all the gears.
      This is done so mixture can adjust back to somewhat factory setting but of course there are multiple different ways to make the mixture lean or rich. Thanks for watching and for your feedback!
      Nice line up btw!
