    How far out do you lesson plan?

    In high school now and we do lesson 1, next day lesson 2, next day lesson 3… i grade on fri or satur. We have a child planner and have the child write in what they do in each subject,each day. That way it’s logged and they did it not me🥰

    I love the idea of writing the concept being worked on rather than page numbers. It seems like it would help keep your head on what actually matters and not just on checking boxes. I will definitely incorporate that into my planning.

    I use the exact same planner and really love it. I do reverse planning so I write it in as we go that day.

    I LOVE that planner!!! I already pre-ordered for 22-23. I can't wait to get it!!
    I plan 1 month at a time and this works out great for us.

    I only plan a week at a time. That way if someone is sick or life happens, we don’t get behind.

    I have that same planner!!! This is my first year homeschooling and it has helped my sanity. Lol. I also plan the next week each Weekend. I simply write “Lessons 30-35”. If I need anything, I look ahead monthly and write it on the list on those monthly pages.

    I made the same mistake our first year too. Was so glad I had written it out in pencil lol. Now I go week by week.

    I have always wanted to be that planner girl!! Please tell me why it helps or what it is for? The curriculum tells me exactly what we will be doing each day. So it feels like I would just be writing what was already provided.
    🤦‍♀️ Help!! Lol!

    I plan 6 weeks ahead. I've always been an overachiever though. My kids find it annoying.

    I do one week at a time as well, but in pencil. That way I can make changes as needed and it serves as an accurate log of what we did. We tend to move a bit faster than planned, but I don’t expect it, it just happens naturally as time and interests permit. :)

      I purchased color erasable pens for this exact reason. Things always need erasing and moving

    Do you incorporate the student planners, and how if so? My 13 yr old wants one, but I'm not 100% sure how to have her actually use it consistently vs it just sit around...
    We've used this planner as well for years, and I can't plan beyond a week out. Life happens too much! :)

    Are you still using My Father's World? I noticed you're using a history curriculum so do you do both? If you are still using it, where do you plan it? I'm definitely one who likes to write everything in (I use the same planner - love it!) only because I don't want to have to look at 3 different planning books for each curriculum everyday - I need that reminder of what page to read, etc. But I love your concept planning, I think I'm just too forgetful to be able to do it :D Thank you for sharing your life with us!

    What is the difference between IEW and Abeka, and do you need both? I thought of doing IEW but I assumed it was an entire language arts curriculum.

    • @roonie85
      @roonie85 Před 2 lety +2

      IEW is a writing curriculum, at least the level she is doing. There are others based on novels and may include more. IEW usually includes vocab though, mixed in with the writing assignments. They do also have a grammar program called Fix It Grammar. Some people trade off years between grammar and writing and some don't (not specifically with IEW's grammar, just in general). Abeka does have a grammar program with some writing but the writing part is lacking imo. There is no comparison between that and IEW. She also has a recent video on Fix it Grammar.

    • @mommyof3smarties
      @mommyof3smarties Před 2 lety +2

      Highly recommend using IEW structure and style for writing. We then add in grammar and spelling. For that we have used Fix It Grammar or Easy Grammar Plus, Spelling You See and wordly wise for vocabulary.

    I love, love my Flair pens too but, what if you make a mistake? You can’t write it out, do you just cross it out?

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Před 2 lety +3

      Yep! Mistakes happen, I don't let it prevent me from using my flair pens. My planner doesn't have to be perfect :) I had to let go of that so I could enjoy it more 😂
