Add me to the list of anxious viewers that would like to see a build video of that finger-joint jig. Also, I do thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and hearing your "dad jokes (?)". Keep 'em coming.
Thanks! I appreciate it! 😄
Everybody chant with me. Box joint jig! Box joint jig! Box joint jig! Thanks Dan.
😂 I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it. Thanks. 😄
I have viewed several box joint jigs and appreciate how you seem to have incorporated so many of the features that I like in a way that I feel I could accomplish. So, YES, I would appreciate a build video and/or plans and instructions. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. 😄
I'll add a second request for the box joint jig. Sounds like I could build it!
Cool. I think I can explain how to build it in a way just about anyone can do it. We'll see. 😄
Well done, Dan. Your skills in both woodworking and videography have significantly improved over the years. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! That means a lot to me. 😄
I'd also like to see the Jig build. Thanks. Great idea and the drawer build is a little more work but good idea on keeping the dust out. Thank you again
Thanks, and you're welcome. As for the box joint jig, it looks like I'll probably give it a shot. We'll see how it goes. 😄
This is the most complicated drawer build on CZcams. Having said that... Nice work!

Definitely would enjoy seeing the jig build and plans! Thanks for inviting us in to your shop. Always enjoyable.

The kitchen sink image! Genius!!!
Thanks - I thought that was pretty funny. 😄
Your mumbling at 14:06 gave me a chuckle. I experienced that kind of frustration many times! Thank you for the video. That’s a great idea for storing drills.
And I didn't have to bleep anything! 😂 And thanks.
Box joint jig video & plans?= yes that is neat
Thanks! Looks like I'll probably give it a shot. We'll see how it goes. 😄
That jig mirror is pretty ingenious, as well as your "holed drawer"; the only modification the latter needs is one of those anti-slip mats to keep your tools from rattling and shifting.
Thanks! I actually have some great anti-slip material, but really, nothing slides around in this drawer much. Most if the stuff is just too heavy.
I’d love to see a build of the box joint jig you made!
Thanks! Looks like I'll probably give it a shot. We'll see how it goes. 😄
This is one of those 'why didn't I think of that' 🤔🤦♀️ genius ideas. Loved the presentation of the entire project and video from: the problem, the solution, the explanation, the here's what we're doing model reminders, the process of the solution (verbally and visually) the mistakes, THE HUMOR (in it all) 👌🏻 and here you go. Voila!!!

Thanks! That means a lot!
Almost all the way through the video I'm thinking, "Didn't he say there were supposed to be three holes in the bottom?"
Great video. I'd love to see that box joint jig build video.
Thanks. I think Hollywood calls that "suspense", right? 😂And I'll probably be making the build video.
Glad your back to making DYI videos. I missed you. Your videos are always interesting and very enjoyable :)
Thanks! I appreciate it, and I'm glad to be back. 😄
Matthis Wandel has new competition! your Box joint jig is great!
Bite your tongue! I'd *never* try to compete against Matthias - he's *way* too smart for me! And I mean that in good humor, of course. I love Matthias' videos, and he seems like such a fun guy, too. So thanks for the huge compliment! 😄
Count this as one vote yes for seeing a build video of your box joint sled.
Thanks! Looks like I'll probably give it a shot. We'll see how it goes. 😄
Always nice to get a notification that you posted a video.
Thanks, Doug! I have a couple of CZcams accounts, and my other account stopped receiving notifications from this channel, so I'm glad to hear you're still getting them. 😄

Hi Dan: So much to say... let me summarize: WOW! I recall your first CZcams post... your first published project! You are an inspiration to all of us with EMS (oh, "Excessive Maturity Syndrome" - we all acquire it, and something to be proud of! LOL)! Superb talent: 1l cool project; 2) tremendous "tips & tricks" to make the project easier (and fun); 3) pride in displaying resolutions for the "oops" that occur to all of us; 4) Sketchup talent; 5) video editing expertise (with great, whimsical and superb effects); 6) wonderful "tongue-in-cheek" (and not) humor; 7) exemplary skills growth since first introducing yourself to us via CZcams. Dan, when I grow up, I want to be as good as you have become! Thank you so much for taking "countless" hours it has taken you to share with talent with us!
Steve, you can comment on my videos any time you want! 😛 I really appreciate the detail of your compliments - that meant a lot to me. I mean, I know a lot of people see the effort and appreciate it, but it's nice to have it put into words like you did. So, thanks!! 😄

Dan, I think you mentioned somewhere you had ADHD. I recognise a lot of my own mistakes and foibles in you and I just wanted to say I find it really inspiring. I don't have a formal ADHD diagnosis (and I'm not sure if I do have it or would even pursue it really) but it's still really great to see someone with similar traits get out and do the things you're doing. Thanks again. Your videos are always so thorough - which I think is part lf your unique style and appeal :)
Thanks, I appreciate it! 😄The thing about ADD (I leave out the "H" because I'm NOT hyperactive 😛), or any mental challenge, is really about degrees. I mean, tons of people have it to some degree. I think you only *need* to get diagnosed if you think it's affecting you enough to maybe want to see if there's something you can do about it. Like for me, I couldn't focus enough to get my work done anymore (this was years ago). So I needed help. But the other aspect of seeing a therapist who specializes in ADD is that they can often help you with simple techniques to help offset the effects. And possibly more importantly, you could learn that a lot of things in your life you've chalked up to "character flaws" may be directly related to ADD, and personally, I found it kind of freeing to learn that. And... there I go again, writing a book. 😏😂Anyway, glad you're enjoying the videos. 😄

Hei Dan, always nice to start the weekend with a cup of coffee and ... a video of the newbie woodworker! Awesome, and welcome aboard! 😄
I think the Ed Stiles video and his plans should remain the definitive version of the box joint sled. Not to mention his shop is the stuff of legend.
Please mention that his design is the most popular and influential. Where did you get the idea/inspiration for yours? Yours is different enough to be your own but it’s definitely derivative. Certainly make a video.
I enjoyed the sketch up part of the video. Great video!
Thanks for telling me about the Ed Stiles video. I've never seen his jig before, but it's obvious that it influenced whichever videos I got my ideas from. Assuming I remember to, I'll definitely mention his video. It's interesting to see him use the mirror - I got that idea by myself - I hadn't seen anyone else use a mirror. So it was cool to see Ed use one too. My main goal in doing a video with plans is to help explain how to build it in the kind of detail I usually do, so that hopefully just about anyone can build it. Time will tell (assuming I make the video, which is likely). Thanks again! 😄
I don't know what ever happen to him. He only had 2 video's and I built both of them. I really liked him but afraid to say since nothing in 7 years he probably won't be making anymore video's.
@@ljgault That's too bad. I loved all the tools on the wall behind him - it looked like a cityscape viewed from above! And you just know he's used every one of those tools. Anyway, thanks for the link. 😄

Thanks! 😄
That is an awesome project! and i realised my workbench had a lot of space under like yours so i could totally make some drawers for stuff! although my workbench is 1/2" ply with a metal plate on top i havent got sides like you as my workbench is made out of handrail pieces.
but youve inspired me to make some drawers of my own although mine will probably be much simpler i bought one of those measuring ruler things you have they are excellent! so much easier when you got a hole for every size so you can easily mark things!
keep the video's coming :)
Awesome, glad I could help! I love the Incra T-Rule, although sometimes I feel slightly uncoordinated when I'm trying to drag it and draw a straight line. But it's nice to feel like my marks are more exact. As for your drawers, if you don't know how you're going to attach them yet, I suggest you do what I did - do a bunch of CZcams searches. Take a little from one, a little from another - it's amazing what we can learn from other people. You could even make your own drawer slides - John Heisz has some videos on that (although I'd rather just buy them). Have fun! 😄
@@TheNewbieWoodworker yeah i think i will watch a few more i usually do. its better to have many idea's than one of your own because you may discover something great you didnt even think about
@@TotoGuy-Original That's the truth. Good luck.
Very nice build and a good idea, i think i would have stuck with the push in slides.
Stay Safe,
Barry (ENG)
Thanks, Barry. The problem with the push-in slides, for me, is that I'm too impatient to wait that extra couple of seconds. 😄
Haven’t tried the Incra ruler but that mechanical pencil is the best.
Yes it is, except if the lead ever gets stuck. It's actually not hard to clear it, once you know how, but figuring out how is a total PITA. I should probably make a quick video about it.
Спасибо!
👍
You could save a lot of that nice plywood in the frame by mounting the drawer slides at the top of the drawer. It would not look as nice from the sides but it is in a shop, not a kitchen.
I think the reason I didn't do that was because I wanted to try and keep dust out of the drawer as much as possible. Also, I didn't think of it. But I'll stick with the first reason. 😄
@@TheNewbieWoodworker I understand your first reason. Dust is my biggest problem.

Hi Dan, nice job! I have never seen a box jig like this, I really like the movement with the threaded rod!!! That's very innovative. Also, you have superb sketchup skills. Were you an engineer back in the day or have you picked this up with woodworking? Keep up the good work!!
Thanks, Mark. Yes, I'm a retired software engineer, so SketchUp was pretty easy for me to pick up, and for someone like me, it's pretty addictive too. As for the jig itself, it's based on things I've seen in other videos, so it's certainly not original. I've added some tweaks, but that's about it. I'm hoping I can make a decent build video and plans, because although it looks complicated, it really isn't. There's a couple of things that are a little tricky to get "just right", but hopefully I can explain them. Time will tell. Thanks again! 😄
Always a pleasure to watch. Just curious on what program you use for the videos?
Thanks. I use Final Cut Pro on a Mac. I love it (mostly). I bought it something like 10 years ago, and have never had to pay for an upgrade. You can't beat that! 😄
Hey Newbie, have a link for that tiny sink? Thanks for the video.
😂I wondered how many people got that reference. And you're welcome!
Timing...Just today I finished a set of 5 drawer under the assembly table. Your idea of building a carcass around the drawer instead of the other way around would have been easier.
LOL, that's always the way it goes, isn't it? 😄
Ordered some Drill Bit Set - Self-Centering (Bosch), I suppose I could use kreg pocket jig for drawer perimeter, however the drawer would not be strong enough?
I would think pocket screws would work just fine.
Let's do the box joint jig! If I build I think I would use 1"x 1/8" threaded rod.
Thanks, I probably will. And by all means, build it however you want. That's the best part of making stuff yourself! 😄
Hey! Where's the box (finger) joint sled video?
You must have missed the notification. 😂
Congratulations, you did it!
No, not the drawer, although you should be congratulated on the design and implementation. Congratulations on doing an instructional/record/watch-and-I'll-show-you something-pretty-cool video. As a newbie, I've been watching LOTS of woodworking CZcams videos. I learn/relearn/relearnagain something on each. However, I've become increasingly frustrated by the approach so many take: Starting with cutting wood on a monster table saw, lots of wood, along with "I started by cutting all the . . .", then proceeding through many more shots of cutting and routing and/or drilling, the putting together of parts of an as-yet-unseen "it," then, in the last 5% or so of the video, voila! we finally get to see "it." yay. I've gotten so I click near the end, to see what we're going for, then, if the building isn't obvious, I'll go back and run through at 1.5 speed. In this video, you used classical presentation methodology: "Tell 'em what yur gonna tell 'em, Tell 'em, then Tell 'em what you told 'em." Or, in your case: "Show 'em what yur gonna show 'em, Show 'em, then Show 'em what you showed 'em." All zippy quick, with sound effects, humor, and your Trademark chuckle at your mistakes. I loved it! All that work was worth it, really!
But I think you're gonna get old before your time, your shirt will develop stripes, and your hair will turn white (oh, wait, the shirt and hair are already there) if you put that much work in every video -- unless you have a whole production staff and are getting $50k per video. (No production staff? Darn!) I think the Sketchup sequences were probably the very best part of "Show 'em what yur gonna show 'em." They put it all together (🙄) for me so watching the actual construction just, well, put it all together. I hope you find a way to produce some of that with fewer than 94? Sketchup shots! Whatever you do will be great, as usual, though.
Thanks, Tom, I really appreciate it. The reason a lot of CZcamsrs don't show the results until the end is that they want people to watch all the way to the end. CZcams's "algorithm" will promote your video more if people watch it longer. And while I'd prefer to have people watch my entire video, I know how much I hate not seeing the results first, so I refuse to do that. If it costs me some views, then too bad. 😄 And like you said, it's classical presentation methodology. I'm a retired software developer, so that's kind of ingrained in me from all the presentations I've had to do. 😴
As for how I make videos, I can't change even if I wanted to. I know, I've tried. 😄 But this is who I am. I like to explain things verbally for those who learn that way the best, and visually for the other types of learners. So even though it's a slow process for me, in the end I'm much happier with the results, and that's what matters. Well, that, and getting nice comments like yours. Thanks again.
Did you do the drills and other tools in Sketchup? Or did you import them. If you did import them, from where? Thanks.
I got almost all the fancy stuff from SketchUp's "3D Warehouse", which you can get to with a web browser at 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/, or from inside SketchUp under the "Window" menu (I think). I prefer the website, so I can open things in separate tabs. One tip on searching 3D Warehouse: When you get the results page, there are "tabs" across the top, like "PRODUCTS", "MODELS", etc. It always defaults to Products, but you're more likely to find what you want in the Models or Collections tab. Anyway, once I download an object, I often-times modify it to my preferences. For instance, I downloaded a "drive guide" and added the DeWalt label, because that's the one I use. 😄 And I have some models up on 3D Warehouse: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/by/TheNewbieWoodworker.
Plans. Plans. Plans. Plans. Plans.
Looks like I'll probably give it a shot. We'll see how it goes. 😄
Here's a British request for the box joint jig. Does that mean it's worth more?
LOL. I'll probably be doing it. I forget - do you guys use metric or inches?
@@TheNewbieWoodworker when I'm not just guestimating, a healthy diet of both. Saying that, I only go down to 1/4 inch but usually just whichever is closest to a memorable marker on the tape measure.

SketchUp. If you're interested in it, here's a place to start: thenewbiewoodworker.com/sketchup/getting-started/
Can you buy tabbed miter sled runners or do you have to make them
Is this what you mean? czcams.com/video/bKIXUw7IhlY/video.html If so, the only methods I know of are to make them yourself, or use something like an angle grinder to remove the tabs from your saw - people have done this and they say it works well, but of course it's your saw and if you decide to do it, I'm not responsible if something goes wrong (how's that for CYA?). 😄

@@GD748able You're welcome! 😄
I love good build videos, but the fix for the misplaced holes made this one OUTSTANDING! Great job, and love that you’re thinking ahead to use this in your router stand. Keep it up!
Thanks! If you ever have to use plugs to patch holes like this, you can use something like JB Weld KwikWood to fill the pilot bit hole, and any gaps around the edges.
@@TheNewbieWoodworker did you have to fill those holes? It looked to me you had taken out the center on the hole saw or had overlapped your pilot hole with the new hole for the drills.
