Volkswagen Diesel Rabbit Pickup Engine Removal and Teardown (It Didn't Run)

- Today, I pull the 1.6D out of my early Westy sunbrite yellow rabbit diesel pickup after the timing belt broke and swallow any hope of a "will it run and drive" video. There aren't many surprises, but I have a good time either way.

@@bakedbeansgarage116 sounds like it could be great fun. love odd ball engine swaps, a mate of mine is in the middle of swapping a honda D series in to he's Mk2 and i know thats been a ton more work then he anticipate. but its such a cool swap.
I'd love to do a VTEC rabbit eventually. If I'm not mistaken, Honda drivetrains just don't fit between the rails of a mk1/2. My engine will fit just fine according to my tape measure. It is not Honda.
@@bakedbeansgarage116 from what I remember I don't believe he's had to cut any in to the rails. it's a tight fit thou and it just a 1.6 single cam D series, so for something like B or a K swap you'd probably have to cut up some rails I'd imagine.

Other than the rotted floors and the gophered dashboard the body is pretty alright, new floors and dash along with new nick nacks and she'll look pretty nice. I am curious myself about what gas engine will plop into the once diesel banana. I love the Mk1 and Mk2 Golf's.
Yup, already got a coverlay. She gon be purdy. The swap I'm planning is very ambitious and completely pointless, but it'll be neat!
