    correction for the water pump pulley .. it's the power steering pulley off a 12v vr6. I'm getting things together to do this swap and looked over my 12v vr6 and found this out. Thanks for the video.

      Ive never tried to see if that would fit.
      I have only done the 12v water pump pulleys used in my area.
      But in order to use it you have to have a few mm machined off the tdi crank pulley.
      We had a lathe at the shop it was always the most common way for us to do it. And plenty of vr6 engines around to take the waterpump pulleys.

      @@SmithsEuro Could You post the final diameter of the crank pulley? And did You take off metal on both the inside and outside rig? I have a friend with a lathe, it would be great to know how much to take off.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  Před rokem

      Usually has to be tested as you go.
      Id say start with 2mm cut off so youll have 4mm total diameter cut off but per side will be 2mm that always faces the pulley.

    As I worked in VW parts at one of the stealerships I was at before I was a tech there, the 'H' part as opposed to the 'D' is probably just superceded for either the application or it's an 'updated revision' of that bushing. You can check ETKA and type in the full number under the tab for applications and it'll tell you what it all fits. I'm sure anything mk1 chassis specific and possibly something older. The revisions happen more often on typical 'bulletin' parts like coilpacks... It may also be VAG's answer to an old part that became NLA. The mount brackets look nice although I do prefer poly or delrin. As long as it's got grease on the bushing and the proper sleeve/ washers they work well at helping the slop in the drivetrain. Prothane makes a poly insert for those mounts too, or you could make your own with some liquid. Good video man, great to see some progress on the caddy!👍😎

      Looks like its and auto vs manual part number. The H is auto technically.
      I thought about those inserts but was trying to keep rattles out.
      Though in the end i had to get a solid lower rear mount due to the added power lol.
      Thanks for still watching man! Appreciate it.

      Yeah that makes sense about the P/N. Didn't think to mention that as a possibility for the part number breakdown. Yeah I remember running everything from hockey pucks, to homemade urethane mounts, using liquid urethane or delrin, the inserts, Vf engineering 3 mount set, BFI, EIP, and BBM solid aluminum front mounts, etc. I preferred the VF set or a combination of one of the solid aluminum front mounts, along with my own rear urethane one and a G60 trans mount. Seemed to be the best combination for my needs and the NVH never really bothered me that much. I built mostly a few different 1.8l/ 2.0l 16v's in either N/A, ITB, or boosted setups. Really miss some of those builds and the raw feeling of them. Your caddy is in exceptionally good shape. Can't wait to see this thing get built!😎👍👍

      No I wasn’t happy with it. I used the mk3 pedal.
      If i were to do it over again just buy any mk4 pedal and mk1-mk4 pedal adapter bracket.
      Not worth the hassle of time i put into using them mk3 ahu pedal to save $100

    Hello,
    One question. Can you use original rear transmission mount or you need this aftermarket one?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  Před rokem

      If you are converting to an 02a or 02j transmission you need a conversion mount.
      If you are keeping your oem 020 5 spd or 4spd rabbit trans you can use the oem mount that came with that trans.

  • @tombackhed792
    @tombackhed792 Před rokem +1

    Did you use the original driveshafts from the caddy to the newer engine?

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  Před rokem

      Depends what trans you use, original to mk1 reuse all that stuff.
      I used the 02a so i got 16v scirocco axles and used washers to space them from the hubs.
      90mm mk1 hubs need washers
      100mm mk1 hubs do not

      I have an original 1.6D with the original 4 speed gear box in my caddy mk1 but im swaping it for a AHU engine and a 02j/ctn gearbox. So im kind of trying to figure out what parts i Need and what parts i can reuse

    • @tombackhed792
      @tombackhed792 Před rokem

      The engine and gear box comes from a caddy II

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  Před rokem

      Use everything i used.
      For 02j trans youll probably have to swap the axle cups to 100mm 2.0/tdi ones to match the scirocco axles
      With your car being 4spd youll need washers for then axles or they will lock up

  • @juanrocha6548
    @juanrocha6548 Před rokem

    Would this set up work for an ALH engine?

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  Před rokem

      No, alh has an internal waterpump. You would need a custom made bracket engine side.
      If using the 02a/02j trans these mounts would work.
      If using the mk1 020 trans you reuse those mounts
