Your video brought back a lot of memories Reg.
I first ride over Hardknot and Wrynose in 1981 on my Suzuki TS50ER, after riding from Fife to my Grandparents in Lincolnshire, then home via the Yorkshire Moors and Cumbria.
The roads look as bad now as they were then.

Great video, great tips. The filming gives a great sense of the topology, most don't. What a day for it and virtually traffic free. Thanks.

Great stuff and nicely done. I did them yesterday the other way around. Birker Fell first and then Hardknott that I think is more challenging from the West? Then Wrynose, Langdale and up the Struggle and the other bit of Kirkstone pass towards home in Kendal. My RS is 5 years and 30,000 miles with the original flap and no stickiness so I guess I’m lucky. I used to read about the Hardknott and Wrynose passes in Motorcycle Sport when I was a spotty teenage biker starting biking over 50 years ago. So lucky to have them in my back yard.

Great video and lovely to see someone travel Wrynose and Hardknott competently after all the nightmare videos of people falling off/getting stuck. Liked your comments n road position and gear choice..I'll look out more of your videos.

Much better on a bike. Fabulous video and what a great day out. I remember many many years ago driving that in the other direction in a rear wheel drive car. . . Look forward to the next one.

To be fair Michael, once you’ve gone up, you’re going to have to come down! I would suggest the passes are slightly easier travelling from west to east though.

I had a bike trip planned this year but its now turned into a campervan trip!, got 2 nights booked near Ambleside, how are those passes in the summer, July, with taking a campervan? I could imagine it being a bit of a struggle? Looks amazing👍

Unless you want to end up the motoring equivalent of the Evergreen in the Suez Canal, I’d avoid driving Wrynose & Hardknott in anything bigger than a VW Transporter.

nice work. sorry to ask this over here but do you suggest setting car side mirrors the traditional way (seeing some of your car in the mirrors) or the method for eliminating blind spots that SAE (society of automotive engineers) suggests?(leaning against the window glass and setting the mirror). I am really confused on this. the first method is good for determining the space you have around your car but lacks the ability to be able to instantly know if there's another car besides you when you want to change lanes in an emergency.

I was reading a post from a 2019 GS owner whose bike needed a new exhaust flap and he’d been told an updated part was being fitted. I’m assuming that’s the 2021 header you referred to. It’s super annoying when such a new vehicle develops a fault, especially when they’ve not fixed it first time. First world problems hey?! Incidentally I drop you an email via your web site but didn’t hear back, nothing exciting just about sharing your videos on our local IAM group Facebook page 🙂 cheers Steve

Nice video.....shame about BM....back and forward to dealers over and over....had all that years ago....I stick with older Jap bikes without all the Electronics....and enjoy all my own servicing....never been to a dealer for 20 years.
