After having heard so many bad things about grossing, it's refreshing to finally hear someone speak something good or beneficial about grossing. It will definitely help me face grossing with a more positive attitude
Thank you for the opinions! That’s really true about the third one. The efficiency is way different.. My senior can gross 3 complicated GI specimens when I’m still at the first one searching for enough lymph nodes to submit.
Hi Dr. Wang, I *may* have come through and observed sign-outs recently so I greatly appreciate the mention of your profile! I've been watching your vids and they answered a lot of the burning questions I had, which I posed to our resident as well. I'm glad you're really transparent about the field and coupled with the few experiences I've had in Pathology lately (hemepath, GI, neuro, and autopsy), the specialty is currently #1 in my consideration list as I navigate medical school admissions. I thought grossing was neat and agree with you on efficiency, which is something I've been thankful to develop as a nontrad that's already working. I also realized I felt more at home at the miscroscopes, versus on the ICU wards where I felt so totally out of place, haha. Thank you again for such informational videos!
Completely agree!!! I am so proud as the pathologist right bow that I was in very heavy grossing residency. 1 week a year when our PA on vacation I am responsible for grossing 70-90 cases per day… and I am able to do that.
I just saw your channel. I want to be a pathologist in America. You have useful content for students like me. Please continue the videos. Greetings from Turkey and success.
Keep making such videos. 👍👍👍 can you make a video on Woking hours for first year resident ? Is weekend off for first year resident ?How tough it is ? Also if someone has already two years of experience in surgical pathology outside US and wants to Perdue residency in US.
Thanks for your suggestion, I plan to make a video addressing this. Even if you have done some amount of pathology residency, if you want to practice in the US, you will have to start off as a PGY1 again.
Dr. Wang: "This is my unpopular opinion, please don't hate me for it." Me: I love unpopular opinions; Dr. Wang has some unpopular opinions; therefore, I love Dr. Wang! 😅🤩
Is it true that pathology residency programs are ok about old IMG's applying to it....as am really interested but as am 37....I fear about getting rejected cause of that....though have an experience of working and published few papers as well in index journals
Programs aren't allowed to be biased just because of age. As an IMG who has been out of training for a while, it all depends on your STEP scores, publications, LORs, etc.
As AP residents, you have to do at least 30 autopies to be able to sit to take the boards. As attending physician at an academic center, you might have to do autopies too. But, there are tons of jobs that doesn't require autopies.

Thanks! Best of luck with your residency applications!
A pathology program without grossing is like clinical medicine without a physical exam (imo haha)
Totally agree with you!

You just sounded like my head of department 😂😂
Haha, I hope you like your department head then!
Do pathologists have to autopsy in USA?
