I've seen Taj twice now. The 1stbtime was in Napa and I brought my guitar. My mom went and got the car after the show and I sat on the curb with my guitar. I didn't get to meet Taj, but one of his guys was nice enough to take it back to Taj for him to sign for me. I waited and it was a while me and my mom finally thought maybe the guy just set my guitar somewhere back there and forgot about it and I'd never see it again.....I was wrong! A while later he came back with my guitar signed by Taj and said 'sorry it took so long, he tuned it for you and then got to playing it...' I felt so honored! Now my guitar is named Queen Bee!
What guitar is it?
Just an old acoustic my parents got me back on HS, nothing fancy. Plays well enough
Cool. Great story from a young person like your self. Never seen him live. Love. lovin from my babys eyes. One of my favorite songs period. Loved him with the stones. Your mom may be to young to remember that.
you got yourself one soulful guitar now....
he surely put some of his mojo into your guitar :)
If I heard that pass my house,
I’d be followin like it was the ice cream truck!
Had the same idea
I’ll give them $3.50
@@noltwy ...tree fiddeh?! 😄
I laffed!
Your post made me smile so big. ♥
For those that wanted to know
Bass - Bill Rich
Drums - Kester Smith
Bill Rich has always paid close attention to Taj's fingerpicking, especially his thumb. Kudos!
Thanks for that. They are both great.
thank you!
Love how Kester plays to perfection while totally enjoying the day and the view.
Thank you. I think Steven Tyler owes something to these dudes.
Found this song a few months ago and played it everyday for my wife Barbara Everone who was close to her called her Bee for short . It fit her perfectly and what I felt for her.She passed away suddenly 6 weeks ago and I still listen to it with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes.
Thanks Taj. It's a great song to remember her by.
Jesus Christ I feel horrible about the comment. I left about the song I am so sorry for your loss, true love cannot be replaced, GOD bless you❤
I am very sorry for your loss.
My condolences and may she RIP. She must of been a great woman and you both very happy together! I'm confident that you brought her much happiness and Iove during those last few months. Her spirit lives on and is still with you!
@@scottculli7851 ah, don't beat yourself up about it, man
It seems every single song on CZcams gets comments relating to someone who tragically and/or recently died. It's kind of a cottage industry on here.
Bless you Buddy- hoping that all is going well with you!!❤
3 dudes completely locked in. They don’t even gotta look at each other timing and groove is flawless
Joseph Ciresi 👍 "The Horse has the timing LOCKED DOWN" !!! 👍👍👍✌🐎
It's absolutely incredible. I can't watch and listen to this enough.
@@Kimmiejo its awesome
@@roberttaylor7064 yep
Soooo True. Excellent veteran musician. Displaying it's notvall about flash and speed. Music is about Skybd feel, groove and soul. As u said. Locked in sync
If you happen to be walking down the street and see this, step the hell aside- You're in the presence of royalty.
Raise your hat and bow!
oh, so true. One of the best ever!
When you grew up where I did you would do a lot of stepping aside. Never saw show a show but saw him around. As I did Boz Skaggs, Buddy Miles, Sly Stone, Eddie Money and others. Growing up here and a music lover, sometimes you got involved, sometimes your friends did.
One of my best memories of Taj Mahal has nothing to do with him. I was standing outside of a club where he was playing. Street blocked off because there had been a music street fair. Here comes Bonnie Raitt walking up the street with guitar case goin to walk into the front door of the club. Somebody comes out of the club screaming NO!!! Then they lead her into the back entrance.
I thought you were going to say: Check and see if you are dead and gone to heaven.
@@andrew_owens7680 I would do that!
Well, it's official. I've watched this 17 times.
Kane Alson haha me too! I really do enjoy the song!
only 17?
=D
from France, i love this music
At least a hundred times for me. It's the essence of everything I love in this world...
xD
Speed limit says 20 but these guys just went and broke the sound barrier. Of great blues.
This comment resonated too much! Wp sir!
@@Guffy_DK Great Jazz knows NO barriers.
I ran into him as a kid (12 yo)in a coffee shop in occidental one time he was just sitting in the back quietly playing and I had a harp and was trying to play to what he was playing across the shop. He noticed and motioned me to come over and sit and play with him. One of my fondest memories from as a kid learning to plat the blues harp. He was so kind and patient.
I want to hear you play!
Taj is a National Treasure.
This is so cool
Please make educational music. I would love to hear some talent applied to anatomy and physiology. "kids learning tube" has their heart in the right place. Maybe you could be part of the wave of musicians making a difference in education.
Lucky You ❤❤❤❤
I met Taj Mahal in Geneva, Switzerland around 1980. Incredible human being. Called his musicians to surround me shouting the names of small towns in my home country of Rwanda, Central Africa, they went to play the blues in during a tour sponsored by the American Cultural Center there. So warm, so friendly, so attached to our common African roots. One of my unforgettable encounters on planet Earth. 😊
shambo22 What a fantastic story! My ex tells of meeting Taj on Formentera in the 1970s.
Thanks for sharing! Glad you got to have that experience :)
That sounds like a brief glimpse of heaven.
You have been BLESSED, Shambo! Envious? YES I CAN'T HELP IT! Thanks for sharing this moment.
Love that story!
I believe that Taj Mahal saved my life at least 2 dozen times over the last 40 years. An American prince.
hope you're doing well still
Benjamin Garrett can u enlighten us with 1 or 2 please
@@john-nx4xn Too dramatic, no doubt... but in all seriousness, as a young man many, many years ago, facing tribulations of life that we all face (love gone bad, economic hardship, and deeper still), all I needed to do was put on Nat'l Blues or the Old Folks at Home, and it gave me a smile. Happened a lot. I think that I was 16 working on a construction crew when an older carpenter gave me a Taj cassette, and I heard him for the first time. I never stopped listening and that was 40 years ago. The man is an American prince.
@@dafttassia1960 Definitely, but still deeply thankful for the man and his music. Be well daft tassia!
@@lovethatagave 1) I'm happy to hear that and 2) thanks for the kind words.
I've known Taj since I was a little girl. He would come into my parents music shop whenever he was in the bay area. He is one of the nicest people I've ever known.
How neat! What an incredible creative force he is
What shop ?
Lucky you!!!
What a wonderful place to be. I’ve been a Taj fan ever since I heard “Bacon Fat” in the early morning in the summer of 1969. The next day I found GiantStep /The OldFolks back Home” and wore the final out. I still love the performances, and music. Such a great performer.
Taj lived (lives?) in Berkeley. He would play at the music hall where I ran sound 40 years ago. Fun to work with. Very laid back.
That was 5 minutes 41 seconds of my life,,, Well Spent!
So, if I listen 10 times, it will be 50 minutes and 410 seconds of life well spent! :)
He plays so perfectly. It's just enough, no flashy 64th notes, only the right notes at the right times to make the groove work. And in it's rough edged sound, it is absolutely perfect. Within one bar, you can tell it's Taj Mahal without even looking at the screen. Rock me to my soul!
I looked him up because I watched Dating around on Netflix
Ha..me too, because I had only heard of the Building 😁
Me too!! 😄 Glad I did!! 🎶
Same 😂😂😂
His music's really nice tho 😄
Me too. Watching it now
Same here. Ain't that funny
I saw Taj live in 94 and didn’t know who he was. Other people told me to go and to listen and set a tone of reverence and respect. 25 years later, I am amazed at what a gift that first show was. His music is more personal and more beautiful every single day. 🙏❤️✌️
He escuchado mucho blues en mis 68 anos de vida.Confieso que desde hace poco tiempo le he prestado oido a Taj Mahall .Y encuentro un maravilloso musico que me deleita.Simplemente GRACIAS.
A friend of mine appears in the video. He has recently passed, this video is the best tribute imaginable to my old friend Billy.
Lovely. It’s cool that he’ll exist forever as little part of thousands of peoples day. Hope you’re doing well😊

Just added this to "wedding playlist" haha before reading your comment. Its so good. 👍🍺
Quite possibly the coolest musician on the planet.
Hands down my favorite version of the song. Wish I would have been walking the streets when it was filmed, or even been the driver of the carriage.
I play Taj on the jukebox whenever I can. Words can’t describe the way his music makes me feel. I’m always hoping his music touches others like it does for me.
It does
Leavin Trunk on a juke would be the bomb.
man, I just keep coming back to this one
I sure wish I'd been walking along behind that wagon that day
I’ve been coming back to this for about 5 years now. Gold I tell thee!
I'm an almost 50 year old man that wouldnt know what to do if I wasnt sharing space on this rock with Taj Mahal! Much love Taj!
You're not old, old man
50 is nothing
That was beautiful. I feel better now
This song captures the joy, pain and grace of truly loving someone. Beautiful video.
Sunday morning, horse-drawn carriage, legendary musicians singing and playing...only in New Orleans.
Can't lie I thought they filmed this during the corona virus outbreak and that's why no one was outside and I was like "Oh that's nice they're playing for everyone locked in their houses!" I was wrong but still, what a great song
Uuummmm.... this video was posted like 5 years ago lolz--
But yeah they must've had something cause there aren't many pedestrians
Early morning. That is up to 11:00am down there.
Thanks for years and years of joy, Taj! I met Taj in the late 70s; he was not recognized except by me, so we had a conversation and he sat and played a song.
TooLooze you lucky dog.
So jealous. Been listening to him since my early 20's when my uncle give me a mix tape with Sweet Mama Janisse on it. Just loved the trombone. Love this man.
Taj Mahal is such a legend. This video made me buy a resonator, just to play this song.
I heard Taj Mahal perform twice in Rochester, NY in outdoor concerts many years ago. He is a national treasure.
His performances just get better with age!
I've watched/listened to this video about a thousand times, and the shot at 00:55 is my favorite. For some reason seeing the drummer hit that beat really floors me. God bless Taj and the musicians.
I felt it! 🎉
My fav moment is seeing the horse walking to the beat!
He's just one cool cat! Just perfect.
This has got to be the coolest video!! People and cars goin by and the only one groovin on the jam is the horse!
its a mule. lol
like I said dude!
Fat Fox I’m from NOLA and this takes me home even though I am far away
LOVE this horse drawn in-concert version of Honey Bee ... moving ... through some streets of New Orleans ... moves your soul.
Queen Bee
@@jesusislord7526 QUEEN BEE !
this is exceptional on every level, the music, the video production, the setting, what more can you say
About 15 years ago I got my first cel phone. At least once a week I would get calls asking for Taj. Finally I asked who this man was that was so popular with the ladies. I was informed he is a blues singer. One a day a woman that identified herself as his daughter called and was very frustrated at not being able to reach her father. She thought I may have been using him as a sugar daddy. I informed her I am a married woman in Utah and we laughed. He did frequent Park City. I had a nice conversation about his wild ways, his love for white women and his drinking too much. I will always remember that odd association I had so long ago. My wife posted this.
Randomly came across his song through Spotify. I had it on repeat for at least 30 minutes. This was last month and im still blasting this song. It's damn good. It's one of those songs that put you in a happy/excited mood. Well played Taj Mahal. Well played.
Yes Josie! Try this...czcams.com/video/YkzKw1erF_Y/video.html
Yes maam.
You have good taste btw.
Made to make you smile
Might have been posted seven years ago, but it never gets old.
He made my life much easier, makes me grounded.
A master in telling a lot with a few words and notes.
Now you can easily say who is a ganuine artist and who is a fake. Damn, top notch blues ... I comer here every month to listen to this jewel !
Taj is THE coolest
I must say honestly I've never listened to Jazz/blues and what got me checking this out was crazy as it sounds I was watching his daughter on a show and she said who her dad was which made me want to check him out and this music is absolutely beautiful.
hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here ?
New Orleans - like no other!
without doubt!
Reina del Cid sent me. Love this!!
Me too, Reina doesn't have the same voice as the original but I love how she adapted the song to her voice. All she miss now is a carriage for her next cover :)
@@Bobywan75 that would be fun:)
Holy shit I forgot about Rena del Cid, I just discovered a memory I didn't know I still had. Used to watch and admire her like 8 years back in high school. Life really does come full circle, here I am again.

Absolutely love the drummer ! chillest dude on the planet ! cant believe it took me so long to find the spectacular track !
Kester Smith...been with Taj for many many years. Caribbean bloodlines.
cheers people from Croatia! Taj is one of few
Blues musicians are like fine wine, they get better with age.
That’s true I was gonna give some examples but that would just be every blues guy I know except Robert Johnson who I don’t care much for tbh
This makes my heart smile
It just doesn't get cooler than this here!

Not my thing--reminds me of when Yoko Ono tried to join the Beatles...Piercing Auditory "OUCH."
This is song is pure fire 🔥 and that's comming from someone that predominantly listens to metal.
Metal’s roots are in blues makes sense brotha!
I am a semi retired semi professional musician I saw Taj Mahal live in an intimate venue in Nevada City California in the 80s he's such a beautiful artist I sat mere feet from him as he did a great performance never will forget.
You were BLESSED by Taj.
Nothing better than Taj, the blues and NOLA. I wish I was there. 🖤
Totally amazing! Gotta love that guitar that he is playing! Real music going on there folks. Doesn't get much better than that.
I'm hearing this for the first time, and I bet I will hit replay at least ten times

I'm back to this video from a video of Tedeschi Trucks video of "Leaving Trunk"- another great video.
Lol same
Yeah...that Leavin Trunk video of them in the green room before the show......amazing!!!!
They closed out the second night of the Folk Festival in Vancouver, BC in 2022 and it was an absolutely magical experience.
You can be in the mood for opera, Motown or metal, but if this song pops up, you’re AUTOMATICALLY in the mood fer sum Taj Mahal, locked in.
Love this version! Feels like the first time I ever heard this song, home alone digging through my dads cd collection I popped Taj in and haven’t looked back since.
Absolutely exact same for me. I was like 8 when he “rocked me to my soul”
I'm 33 and this is food to my soul! Love discovering "masterpieces" as I call them!!! Where's my queen been who likes this stuff? 😉
I just love the way the bass guitar affects every other musician. Taj instantly just starts bee boppin as soon as that bass line hits.
What a classic....been a Taj fan since the late 60's!
I just discover this artist, and he deserve wayyy more likes and views. It's so peaceful !!!!
Ah, so much music, so little time. The elders are the best.
Same,,,,the circus rock lead me here
The PFC version is outstanding, this version is simply unbelievable. Wow. The sweetest song.
Just wanted to chime in.. been listening to Taj for about 50 years, and he has weathered well.
Same. I first heard him in about 1972 when I was just a kid. I have been a fan ever since. He just keeps getting better. Every time he comes to Australia I make a point of seeing him.
When I was teen (1968-69) and lived in Topanga Canyon Taj would play at the local and only club "The Corral" and also sit and play on the stoop of the old shopping center (just a hand full of shops and a post office) and play for us kids. Brings tears. We were hippies living down by the creek at "Twin Poles".
Taj Mahal = national treasure
First listened to this man in 1982 and have never yet tired of him or his music; simply a giant.
only thang that could make this is hearing the cadence of the “Hos” on the street .
This makes my day everytime i here it
God bless Taj!
...he is a true treasure!!!!
Taj, I never had the chance to tell you this before. Your music has been the music of my life. Keep on rockin' to your soul.
Ditto
I love this song. I sing it to my daughter all the time!
!!! The natural americana lover trio in New Orleans !!!!! Fantástico !!!
I've been listening to Taj Mahal for 50 years and he just gets better and better, the voice, the voice. Best from Scotland
This was my dear late pet parrot Blighs favorite song :)(: ....R.I.P. madbird
shawnoo weldsparks my macaw has favorites too. bless your dear departed friend.
He make my soul feel nice🌻
I used to hang with Taj a bit back in the mid '60s at The Ash Grove (in Los Angeles, Ca). He started teaching there too but was always there checking out the 'real-deal' blues artists from the deep south that we were also so lucky to be around those days thanks to The Ash Grove. (Also happy to say my late father Milt Holland played on at least one of his albums.)
Here it is 2022, just found this treasure.. replay 20 times, shared and loved. Thank you soo ooh ooh!!
Now THAT is the way to start your Sunday, or any day for the matter! Kudos to the video crew, and much love to a beautiful city...New Orleans. And Taj....well he's a national treasure!
Great swingin' version, all done while rolling down the streets of the best city in America. Taj got the music in him!
I had the privilege to record Taj many times live in the
early 70’s at the Ashgrove in Los Angeles, CA. He sounds just as tight and sole
full now as he did then.
Where in the hell is every one? There should be MILLIONS of " loving " people on the side walk, spilling onto the street, and walking behind them. After all......this is...THE TAJ MAN.
LOVE of a TRUE woman, tis truly for the fortunate, as am I.
I can watch this all day long. ALL DAY LONG.
There’s a reason all the great Brit bands from the invasion love Taj, you just witnessed part of it. Guy is a legend and amazing musician
I had the priviledge to see Taj Mahal in a little joint in Houston TX, more than 30 years ago. It was standing room only. He is a top notch performer. What a voice! Most of his blues songs are about love, and they are fun to listen to.
El es el Bluesman mas ecléctico de la historia del Blues. He tenido la suerte de verlo en dos ocasiones y saludarlo despues del festival. Fue muy amable. Todo un señor.
That bass line!
116 sad people, this performance is superb
Taj Mahal is an American original and an absolute treasure. He may not have the notoriety of Bruce Springsteen, but he has every bit of the depth and breadth and more. I have loved his music since happening upon a dingy 8-track tape of "The Real Thing" lying on the road, at an intersection in downtown Rochester, NY in the mid seventies. That album cooks and is one of the most exhilarating live recordings I've ever heard. I've had the chance to see him many times, including performing this song in the midst of a thunderstorm in Rochester at an outdoor festival. I would have loved to be in the carriage or walking alongside during the beautiful version presented here. I've never seen anything but joy and welcome to all conveyed by this man in his music...a real ambassador to the world...
Love the way the horse sets the beat!
All good no matter what when I hear this....
Discovered The Great Master Taj, when he recorded "You ain't no Streetwalker, But i shoh luv your suff". He's everybody's Soulmate.
Some songs bring tears to my eyes, not because of sadness nor sorrow, but because of the beauty they invoke.
