  • I first learned about Sarona Rameka after meeting her neurologist, Dr. Matthew Phillips, at a conference in 2019. He mentioned an upcoming case study pending publication about a patient who had overcome stage 4 thymoma with only keto and fasting - no chemo because doctors had determined there was no hope for a cure. I waited anxiously for his paper to be published in Frontiers in Oncology in May 2020:
    www.frontiersin.org/articles/...
    I was blown away by Sarona's story and we became friends but I didn't understand the full breadth of her journey until doing this interview for the upcoming documentary:
    cancerevolution.film
    We're deep in editing the documentary now but I couldn't wait to post this as I know her story will bring so much hope to so many. I'm NOT an editor so please don't judge =D The real edited version will show up on the documentary channel in the future:
    / cancerevolutiondoc
    It's worth checking that channel now for clips from our experts.
    Visit Sarona's site for more details on her healing journey: www.saronarameka.com/

    This interview was recorded for the upcoming CANCER/EVOLUTION docuseries but, even though it hasn't been professionally edited, the story is too inspiring not to share now.

    I love this story. My PET just lit up in my liver so the first thing I have done is started a fast. Goal is 5 days but I might just continue to 10 days. Am waiting for an MRI to be scheduled. @@marygraceful Hi there, I ended up having some cancer in my liver. Was treated with radiation but fasted and ate keto theraputic levels throughout the treatment. I am now doing HBOT/IVC for three months. Once a month I do a 3-5 day fast, once a week I do a 24 hour fast and the rest of the week I eat between 10 - 7. I'm feeling really good about my treatment. I work with Dr. Jade with No Stone Unturned who is trained under Dr. Nasha and Alision Gannett who I found on the Cancervme interviews. They are AWESOME! I also just found Believe Big an organizaition with Ivelisse Page who also beat cancer 13 years ago - stage iv colon cancer and used Mistletoe. Check out her organization. All amazing stories and so many Thrivers who are leading our way.

      @@nickcreeksquad7386 Hi Nick! Maggie's husband here. Lots of times people who have successfully dealt with a cancer diagnosis don't like to say they are cancer free. You might be cancer free in a scan, but it is super rare, even for cancer thrivers, to beat the disease and put it behind them forever. So even though Maggie has been free of cancer in scans for a couple years, it helps remind us that the cancer is still in her and can come roaring back. Lots of people have recurrences, and I credit Maggie's continuing to stick with the Keto and Fasting, and many other healthy habits with keeping her cancer free. And yes, she is amazing!!!

    Well, you are also amazing, read everything on your blog. I am on a plant based diet (not keto) and I lost already 11 kg on this diet (80 kg -> 69 kg, 165 cm) mainly fat and a bit of leg/glutus muscle.
    I want to do fasting and keto but I am worried about further weight loss. How did you manage your weight during the fasting and keto? Love to read/hear from you on your blog. Please post a bit more on your blog, even if it is a keto recipe. You are a very brave woman, truly an inspiration.
    Sorry for this unpersonal response. I don't want people to know I have cancer, I told a few and their response is a bit like "dead man walking".

    • @cancerVme
      @cancerVme  Před 2 lety +6

      Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for the kind words! I know what you mean about the "dead man walking." For *years* my oncologists have advised against me getting treatment for non-cancer things because they're convinced I'll be dead imminently. I'm so sorry this is happening to you from your acquaintances, too!
      I was very fortunate that my weight tended to reach a set point no matter how much I fasted. I'm 175cm and was never able to get below 58 kg at my lowest, which is still healthy weight. I'm 65-70kg now despite 40 hours fasting each week + ~100 hours the first week of the month.
      At 165cm, I personally wouldn't worry until 54kg. For my clients who are courting underweight, I strongly recommend weight training that will allow for more protein. Higher calories fats like avocado, coconut oil, nuts, etc can also help. The reassuring thing is that weight loss during keto is not cachexia. In fact, keto has been show to prevent and possibly reverse cachexia.
      You've probably already seen this but I'll leave it here for posterity. cancerv.me/2019/08/28/how-to-fast-and-why/ I need to update it. As you point out, I need to make a lot of updates on the site. I'm been so busy with the upcoming documentary.

      @@azizmudassar1746 Usually when people do a ketogenic diet their weight will come to rest at a certain point. Maggie and I (I do keto, but do not have cancer) found that weight to be just below what we thought would be our bodies natural stopping points. A similar thing happened with a friend of ours. Just when she was starting to be concerned about her weight loss, her weight settled. She then became excited at the aspect of buying new clothes! Doctors are overly caustious about cachexia (muscle wasting). This usually only happens in the last stages when cancer is taking over.
      One thing a person can do to keep on weight is eating more highly caloric, but healthy, things. Like orgainic nuts or organic dairy.

      Hi Donya! I'll forward this question to Sarona but, as someone who's diagnosis and treatment is similar (stage 4 lung cancer to the brain, 6-8 month prognosis), I was deeply ketogenic until about 6 months after I was NED. I now focus on metabolic flexibility (always whole foods, periods of keto) and am still religious about water fasting every week from Sun dinner to Tues dinner and extending that fast to 3-5 days every month.

    But last month they found a small spot on my liver. Going to remove it soon. Shall I follow my gut and fast more? I can do keto too. Ive been checking my blood ketones. You must hear a lot of stories. Is there more and more success with fasting and keto? Sorry to be so long winded. I believe in God as well. Maybe he led me to you!

      "Shall I follow my gut and fast more? I can do keto too." I would say *yes*. Even if you go ahead with the surgery, I've heard doing a little fasting (or was it keto?) before surgery has made the surgery go surprisingly well. The tumor shrank and was easier to take out.

      @Catarax28 Před rokem +2

      Hi @teresahaas, I was diagnosed with stage IV BC 3 months ago, AND I'M JUST 38 😋. I have metastasis in my bones and have one "spot" on my lung (PET-scan), I asked for a second opinion, and got a very experienced doctor telling me that "spot" is probably not cancer, but just an old place of inflammation. So don't let those whitecoats put you in panick mode, trust in your body, trust those guts! 😅 I bet they could have scared me to death those doctors.... I came away feeling more sick and depressed everytime I left the hospital, I would have been a perfect statistic :), but I refuse 😁.
      If that cancer got in your liver, it will likely be all over the place, and you'll be chasing the carrot by having it cut out. Doing habitual fasting will give you more security that you'll tackle not only the bad cells, but also the cause of your cancer in the first place and better your health. The standard seems to be 36-48 hour fast weekly and once per month a 5-7-days fast. I know it's scary, I was greatly inspired by Radicale Remission from Kelly Turner, might help you a lot going through this debacle! Love!
