    Vitamin B12 deficiency can affect various aspects of your life, from your energy levels to your mental health. Unexplained fatigue, memory loss, and cognitive decline might be signs that your body needs more Vitamin B12. Nerve damage, numbness, and tingling in the hands and feet can also be linked to a lack of this essential nutrient. As we age, maintaining a healthy balance of vitamins and nutrients becomes even more crucial for our well-being.
    A deficiency in Vitamin B12 can lead to anemia, which can cause pale or jaundiced skin. Additionally, it can result in mood swings, depression, and emotional well-being challenges due to imbalances in brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. Don't ignore the importance of dietary changes, supplementation, or B12 injections for addressing these issues, especially if you follow a vegan or vegetarian diet.
    Problems with balance, coordination, and even the appearance of your tongue can be signs of a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Glossitis, a condition characterized by a swollen, inflamed, or unusually smooth tongue, can be linked to a lack of this vital nutrient. Ensuring proper Vitamin B12 intake can help maintain your overall oral health and avoid discomfort as you age.
    Stay vigilant about your health and recognize the importance of Vitamin B12 in supporting your immune system and maintaining healthy red blood cells. In this video, we'll share valuable health tips and self-care strategies to help you maintain a balanced and nutritious lifestyle. Join us as we explore the essential role of Vitamin B12 in senior health and promote healthy aging for a happier, more energetic life.

    When I had my blood tested my b-12 was below 100. My Doctor told me that I could die. I had to give myself a b-12 shot weekly for years, now it's once a month. I never thought I could give myself a shot, but a shot or die was the two choices. Last time my B12 was over 2000. Thank God it can never be too high. Take this seriously.

    • @bxxmb80
      @bxxmb80 Před rokem +15

      Yes sometimes tests come back slightly low or even quite high but this is just what's in the blood, u can still be severely deficient on a cellular level... The liver releases b12 into the blood when it's really low to allow the body to function on a low level... There is a more detailed test for cellular level b12, I think it's called IF test (intrinsic factor)

    Do elderly only have to take B12 only if deficient or should B12 be combined with Vit B complex ?

    • @bxxmb80
      @bxxmb80 Před rokem +9

      I would take both... The b12 in a b complex tablet won't be enough if you are deficient... Maybe alternate one day b12 then one day b complex...
      The best b12 supplement I found was methylcobalamin 5000mg in drops under the tongue which you keep there for 2 mins before swallowing... You can also get it in lozenge form...
      It's absorbed better into the blood this way without having to go through your digestive system..
      Methylcobalamin form of b12 is more superior and much better absorbed than the most common cobalamin form of b12 .

    • @visionsustainability5475

      Why only B-12 is needed because: 1) human body does not produce it, 2) aging hampers its absorption thru the gut. Hence, oral supplements and B-12 rich foods will not be useful.
      This is not so with B-complex and other Vitamins. We can get them through food or if needed, can take oral supplements.

  • @bxxmb80

    Having the lower part of your small intestine removed bcos of illness, cancer etc can stop you from absorbing b12 as the ileum is where b12 is produced and absorbed.. Started b12 sublingual drops under the tongue and it turned my life around.. I took methylcobalamin @ 5000 mcg

      @@RepentfollowJesus Before I knew about metformin blocking b12 my MD prescribed it for pre-diabetes (5.7% A1C). It triggered gastritis that lasted for 3 weeks after stopping metformin and also oscillopia, balance issues, extreme fatigue, etc. Came to learn I was was severely deficient in b12 and prone to this - maternal grandmother had bi-weekly b12 injections, possible pernicious anemia, northern European. Another clue I've since found out re: b12 is I have poliosis or a streak of grey hair in one area. I'm 53 and barely grey otherwise. 2 years ago diagnosed with enlarged liver, possibly NAFLD, and as it turns out b12 anemia can cause an enlarged liver. Anemia can also cause high glucose. MD's are unfortunately clueless about b12. Believe undiagnosed b12 deficiency caused my Mom's stroke and many falls. She never went to a doctor and thought her Mom only got b12 shots for energy not as a necessity.

    As much as all this is helpful when are we going to address the issues behind why people become deficient in the 1st place? Of course it can be diet related however many times it's an absorption issue. Resolving the absorption issues and most with a good diet would not have this problem. Dr. Berg discusses the reasons behind absorption problems and how simple solutions as opposed to medical intervention can be very successful in resolving this issue. Highly recommend his videos.

    Had 5 symptoms. Have degenerate arthritis. Nurse practitioner had B12 test done. Oops. Had a score of 702. 2 points above normal range. Vit D is normal, calcium is normal, magnesium is normal. I drink 3 cans of NOS a day & take some nutritional yeast supplements. I'm burning through the B12 alarming rate. Each can is 200% of the recommended daily allowance. Is my body actually not absorbing into the needed areas?

      @bxxmb80 Před rokem +4

      Yes it's very possible and 200mg is not enough to treat a deficiency...
      Try methylcobalamin 5000mg form of b12 drops under the tongue, hold for 2 mins before swallowing..this gets into ur bloodstream immediately without having to go thru your whole digestive system which may not be absorbing it properly.
      You could add some folate and a b complex with minerals too.

      I had a severe deficiency and also anaemia even though my b12 blood results were showing as not too severely low... But that can happen bcos we can be deficient on a cellular level.. Not only what's in the blood at that time... Which is why many people suffer debilitating conditions that Dr's can't pinpoint.
      I treated mine with a dropper 1/2ml under the tongue every day for a month or so.. To bring levels up and now take it every couple days.. I also take a liposomal vit b complex daily, magnesium and an iron tablet.

      I would think that 5000mcg is quite a high dose already which is 500mg... 2000mg daily would be too high in my estimation but I will research it. 😊

      I know exactly how u feel. I too had to learn how to take a B-12 shot twice a month. My B-12 was so low I ended up with crippled up painful tightening hand and couldn't lift my legs to walk. The emergency room told me I should of been in a coma my b-12 was so low, like 7, they never seen someone still up right and talking. I have Crohns disease and surgery has taken most of my intestines so I can't absorb vitamins very well and I suffer horribly and now that I'm 51 it's harder than ever to maintain all my vitamins so I feel for u when u say take the shot or die. God Bless U and take care, good luck my friend.😊

      I suffered with dark depression for years, way dark, and had been on several antidepressants and could barely even get to the grocery store bc of fatigue, tummy aches, tachycardia, falling a lot and kept getting worse. My husband took me to a new primary care doc and she did bloodwork and I had severe B12 & iron def anemia.
      She put me on B12 shots & iron tablets🤢 & after a couple of months~it was like one day the dark crippling depression clouds parted like a magic trick; I was astonished that all I needed I could have long ago could have started on a road to recovery! Sadly the peripheral neuropathy was irreversible but I don’t mind, the depression was gone & that was the worst!
      I feel so blessed it turned out to be such an easy fix! It’s disturbing how many debilitating symptoms can come fm a vitamin and mineral deficiency. My brain and limbs thank me for getting adequate oxygen back to them!🤪 Who’d have thunk it!??
