The Rottweiler, Doberman and German Shepherds are the best breeds in my opinion. They are not only exceptionally intelligent but are strong and athletic and make for great guardians as well as companions.
Border Collies also belong on this list. Others not so much ...
Well, I have a Doberman and a German Shepherd/Lab Mix, and yes, amazing animals. Lots of love 💜💜💜

I've had shepherd-pit mixes that were brilliant. They were smart enough to play dumb.
I've had four Norwegian Elkhounds, the first three of whom were fine therapy companions to my disabled mother. The second was something else, though: when it got warmer in the house than she liked, she would go and bark at the thermostat. Her successor was baby-sitter to Mom's caregiver's infant daughter.
My boy Baldurdash is the best heating pad in history, and when the sign says _WET FLOOR_ he does.
I certainly agree with poodles being intelligent. My little guy was very smart, I always said too smart for his own good sometimes, lol. When it was playtime he could get saucy. He'd be barking at me to throw a ball and sometimes get carried away so I would say to him Shhhhh! He would look at me side eyed and give a quiet woof as a talk back. When it came to training I usually only had to show him once what I wanted and he would repeat it. He didn't like his feet being wet and started wiping his feet on the mat at the door when we came in from walks. People would ask me how I trained him to do that. I didn't, it was something he started doing on his own. Still miss that little guy!
The Cardigan Welsh Corgis are also exceptional and their cousin the Lancashire Heeler too.
My favorite breeds, are the German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, and Rottweiler!😍🏋😎👍

My understanding is that the Dalmatian is not a particularly intelligent breed at all. No where near the top 10.

And i had my whole life dogs, grow up with them as a part of our family , all kind of shepherds, Dutch, German , Irish setter but the Blue heeler is really special .
POUND POODLES (ska rescue Poodles) ROCK! They come in many different sizes and colors! Once you go Poodle, you never go back.
Fascinating to see these dogs shine with their intelligence. Ironically, no sign of humans in this top... Perhaps a subtle reminder that intelligence can be measured in many ways.
Pyrenees x Rottie x GSD. I have a stubbornly intelligent dog. He's a challenge, but he's does great security detail and he's a sled puller dog.

Had Doberman (2), Rotweiler mix, German Shepard and 2 poodles..
To me all good dogs but the German Shepard waste most intuitive guard dog.

I loved dogs. To me, the comments about the most intelligent dogs are the same, just dressed up with different words. Based on the comments I would have difficulty choosing.

Border collies are tops! My girl enriched my life for 17 years. They're the best dogs, if you are prepared to put in the work and provide them with what they need to thrive. If not, best look elsewhere.
