Grimfrost Seax - Viking Woodsman Knife - Review

- I was out in the woods reviewing the Grimfrost Viking Seax, a great tool for the Viking reenactor, bushcrafter and woodsman. Why go out in the woods in Viking clothes? Because I strongly believe that anyone interested in learning about the Viking Age and the Viking way of life, needs to practice the basic skills that the Norsemen and -women had to master to survive and thrive.

Great to see you in your viking clothes again. It's been too long
Too long, Karl. But now it's winter soon and winter is Viking season for me.
Nice knife. Thanks for showing it.
It's a good one. I will do a more thorough review in a future video.
I love your viking clothing. I'd be tempted to wear this every time I went into the woods! The seax is my favorite. A beautiful blade. Thanks for sharing, Bjorn!
Thank you, Steve. These clothes are very comfortable and I blend in more with nature. It's hard to explain, it's a feeling I get.
I love the Seax blade so much I made several, and even bought a pocket knife with a Seax style blade. It's the most versatile and utilitarian blade shape of all. Not great for skinning, but superior for all other uses.
Another wonderful video highlighting a wonderful knife design from antiquity. This design is still not only useful today but also one to be used and respected. Thank you for posting this, Bjorn. It's a beautiful blade.
Great video my friend, that knife looks like an absolute beast 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I know I always say it but thank you for taking us on your adventures.
Thanks a lot, my friend.
Good content in the videos lately. Realy nice viking outfit with the wicker basket backpack. :)
Great review bjorn, a beautiful blade one of my favourites and to review the blade in such a video with your awesome Viking clothing made it a great video, I would love to wear such attire when hiking or just outdoors 🤘⚔️
Love seeing videos with you in Viking garb. Looks like a nice knife too.
Thank you!
I enjoy all your videos, thank you for this one! This looks like a very good knife, I'm glad you like it!
What a wonderful knife 👍🏻
… love it 😊 … and a great review Bjørn 👌🏻😊 Atb
I LOVE this knife! I've watched this video at least 5 times (for now)! I wish I had one!
What a great knife! Real nice review!
Thank you!
I am making a broken back Seax now. I love this design.
I love the look of the seax blade. Thumbs up great video's.
Hade en sådan kniv. Bästa kniven jag har haft. Dok så behövde jag sälja den.
Nice video. Currently Reading one of your books Jomsviking. Tycker om dina böcker och hoppas du kan skriva fler.
I will be buying one soon thanks for the review
Another Seax I'd recommend is the one available from Tod Cutler, I havent used it for bushcraft yet, but its very good for the price.
Awesome camp knife! I feel a definite connection to the ancestors when I use any hand tools or knifes, but to have one so close to what they had back then must make it very much more special. Thank you for the video, I had to watch it a couple of times - the first time I kept focusing on the some of the details of your Viking clothes, and was missing what you were saying about the knife, lol
Glad you liked it. I tried to compress this one, to be honest, as I will get back to the details in future videos.
I look forward to seeing more.
Another great video and that is one nice looking knife
I love your videos brother. You have inspired me. I now want to become a California Viking. Thank you.
That's a nice knife thanks for sharing I have been thinking about getting one thanks for the input
Nice looking and very functional knife, Bjorn! I have been pretty fortunate as the last 3 seaxs I have bought were on Amazon. They are carbon steel and handmade. I ended up replacing the sheaths with my handmade ones. Other than that the blades are great and reasonably period correct.
I received my Grimfrost seax a few weeks ago and really like it. It does need to be kept well oiled lest it rust. No two seem to be alike as mine is a thinner blade with the broken part a much lower angle, endiang in a very sharp point. I like the stamped in runes too.
You, sir, are AWESOME.
I only have one full tang Seax, about that same size. It's very useful. I love that style sheath as well. I made my own. I had Norwegian ancestors as well. Whether they were actually Vikings or not, I have no way of knowing. But they did live in the Danelaw, so there is a good chance, lol.
Well I was going to buy that same knife from grimfrost and after watching your video I will be buying it for sure thanks for the video
It's a good one. You'll love it.
I might be getting this particular knife soon, it's perfect for my real world needs and its excellent for my reenactment since I focus on the 900s anyways
another very good video Bjorn
george chambers Thanks!
I love your voice. Thank you for the history of the knife and the review.
Thank you!
Nice blade and a good day to you as well .
Thank you!
I have been looking at these knives on the Grimfrost site - thanks for the review.
I think they're good. I will get back to a more detailed review later.
Very nice mood to that video and that knife is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing my friend! Wade
Glad you liked it, Wade. Btw, we should do some kind of collaborative video.
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen I'd love to hear your ideas about a collaboration.👍
Now that beast of a knive shows some rough beauty.
Cool knife..huge and brutal😏👍🏻
That's such a cool knife, I love big knives.
At the base of the blade on my machete, I sharpened it to a Scandi grind for fine work. The rest of the blade is a convex grind for chopping and heavier work. I also squared off the back of the blade for sparking a ferocerium rod. Nice blade!
"Woodszz" 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Superb accent mate!
Exelent vid! Superb!
Exelent garments!
Subscribed!
Great video, and without a doubt a great knife!
Thanks, Lukas.
What a great blade , skål !
Another thumbs up for you my friend. That is a fine camp knife indeed !
Thank you!
I usually wear a small puuko-style blade...together with my tomahawk (and probably a smaller neck-nife) I have my needs covered.
...But I wanted to give the seax a chance, and I have ordered mine last week...!
Stay well, Björn, and thanks for the video.
I found one i haven't seen! Cool
I recently got a hold of a seax knife, it is the most practical piece I have. Its not meant to look pretty to my opinion rather it screams at working. I need to bring it to the woods but I can tell that its practical shape and work will do well. Still, yours is very beautiful and hope it serves you well. :)
great video.
That blade is badass!
nice knife thank you im subbing
wow that's not a knife- that's a dagger !! 0.0 Thank you as always for showing us your new tool/toy and taking us outside with you ! :) .
I like your style Bjorn, I made one similar last year. Great channel with all things Viking.
Thank you, Simon.
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen I have lots of stuff Viking ive made Bjorn, axes, seax, sword, Throne etc!. Also Im making a full Viking costume and Helm. I could send you some pics for your perusal?
A good Knife from Grimfrost a very nice tool in the forrest:)
Interesting to see. And as with that saex, so long as it's comfortable to choke up on it, there are quite a lot of finer tasks a larger knife can still be used for. :3
That is a nice knife, a bit big for me.. but it would be fun to "play with." Thanks for showing it off. :)
What a great knife. I have been looking for a seax that I can actually use for a long time.
This one would be such a knife.
your for fathers would have loved this fine blade...very nice
I will have to make myself one of those Seax, looks like a very handy tool.
I think you'll love the design.
VIKINGS IS BACK!!!
Nice Post thank you .. a bit of History too 👍.
Glad you liked it, Thomas!
A design like this would definitely be on my short list if I needed another blade, as it is I haven't the time to use the khukuri that I have accumulated over the years (my preferred large knife design if I am not packing a tomahawk/hatchet or axe).
Really nice knife good to hear it keeps its edge after use too, I may get one when I have the cash 😃
I think you'll like it, James.
Really good video! :)
Thank you, Jake!
Hi Bjorn, here a new brazilian subscriber hahaha what a beatiful place in the video
Welcome, Rafael!
Thats a very hefty knife, very beutiful and cool!
Definitivt en kniv att va stolt över^^
Good review.
Thanks, Shane.
I hope you will use the viking clothes again soon bjorn👍
Nice pack basket, and knife!!
Thank you, Alan!
I like your knife
Greetings from cold Russia)) Very interesting and informative channel, I wish you success.
P. S. Beautifu seax
After making many knives I have decided that the best steel is least moving above blacksmith steel or even 01 and that I want all my blades to be sharpenable with a mill file and if it can satisfy those two requirements ; being spring steel and sharpenable with a file, then I like it. I do have a diamond file but I want to be able to use a normal file because there are a lot easier to find and it puts an edge back on there really quick after chopping limbs and hitting rocks when chopping on roots and things
Been looking at this knife for a while, considering if it´s worth a buy. As well as the smaller neck-knife they have.
Great video, i live in England and use a very similar knife everyday at work..its called a Hacking knife. I wonder if the Hacking knife is the knife that the seax evolved into ? That would be so cool :))
The Seax is a good knife. It has many uses.
Great video and great review! Where do you get your clothing brother?
I love big knives, but come the end of the day, I hate having to carry them around due to their inherent weight. That said, Ireally like that one!
Question for you Bjorn. Are any of your books available in audiobook format? I only ask because I am dyslexic and have major issues with reading. Especially what you might call "bulk text". If they are, then could you let me know who is selling them please mate?? Thanks!
Yes, my novels are available in audio in several languages. Or to be more exact, only the first in the Jomsviking series so far. I don't know which languages at this point, but my publishers will have them out in audio in the near future if they haven't already.
It would sound good in his voice as well
wow..you are my viking..i think..It is nice to see this old ,nice viking clothesI have a similar coat similar with the hat..u think i will take it on walks..nice music too..
Thank you, Marta!
Hello Bjorn, what about a norwegian Brand Helle. I have one andere I love it. fits in my hand and handcrafted beautifull.
Yes, they are quite common here.
I’ve got 2 wishes for christmas, first is you latest book, second is that knife... I’m pretty sure I get the book but the knife not so much.
But 1 out of 2 is good I guess. 😊
Hi Bjorn, how do you find the Seax compared to drop point knives? Great video!
the norse seax and the bowie are so similar in design because they are both designed for a frontier type context.
A broken back Seax is particular to the Anglo Saxons only.
I love the fur that you have what animal was it made from?
Where did you get it. I it was online could you provide the link I would like to get one
may I ask where did you get this nice pannier? (Kiepe)
Those are nice but I prefer the Yoad myself. Its a Viking style of blade that Ive used for many years..
If you don't me asking and it's not too much trouble, how wide is the back of the knife, is it at a 90 degree angle (firesteel) and how much does it weigh? After your interesting review I'm seriously considering adding this to my pack. I was also going to ask if it batons well, but you probably wouldn't need to with its size. Many thanks.
My opinion:
1. Full width tang is not historical. You can look up the how remains of historical seaxes look like on the internet.
2. Some seaxes like "Seax of Beaghoth" were richly decorated weapons, not tools.
3. Same knife in 1095 steel would be even more badass.
4. Cool video, keep up the good work!
Did you watch a sitcom The Vikings? What is your opinion about it?
Hey i dont comment much, but i bought this same knife, im just wondering how ur tip held up. Cuz mine bent kinda easy. Im wondering if mine was a defect or did u find it bent to because otherwise the knife was amazing!
I'm looking at a grimfrost nordic knife? On Amazon 64 dollars I figure it looks coo at least...
Where can you buy this knife in europe?
The seax was awesome and ubiquitous. It was and is an awesome field knife but was also EDC🖒
Where could I purchase this fine knife ?
Great video and that Seax looks like a real workhorse.
Will Jomsviking ever be available in English?
I think what needs to happen is that people need to contact English publishers and suggest they buy the rights. The novels have already been translated and there is only a matter of getting an English language publisher to publish them.
This knife is beautiful, it reminds me of a Japanese sashimi knife 🔪
Do you still use it?
I have to admit when I first saw this knife I thought it was a kitchen knife, but that thing can chop
Great review! I have an off topic question. I am making a similar seax for my son and he wants the blade etched with the name "Leg Biter" in runes. How do you say "leg biter" in Norwegian?
Hi Thomas! That would be leggbiter, actually!
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen awesome! I appreciate your response. I love your channel, keep up the good work!
if I'd seen you dressed up like that, carrying a bow and the seax, I'd have surrendered or run for the hills! Awesome tool, more than a knife, not quite a machete.
Ser ut som en God kniv vet du hva slags hardhet Det er I stålet? Det ser ut som karbon det kan være lurt å galvaniserer den i sink
I've asked and I will get back to that later. I think it's quite hard.
where did you get the pelt from? looks really nice
It's a reindeer pelt from the north.
