  • Today we're looking at a Budget Shotgun Microphone from MOVO, the X3 II
    Has the ability to run on 24v or 48v phantom power, is a super cardioid condenser microphone and you can also run it on a single AA battery. Comes with XLR cable and a XLR to 3.5mm when using battery power, small hint, the audio from the battery power does not sound good, but when using the XLR with 48v phantom power it actually sounds really good, so good I did a side by side comparison of the MOVO X3 vs the Deity S-Mic 2. In my opinion the Deity has a more pleasing sound but the MOVO was close.
    Tell me in the comment section your thoughts on the MOVO X3 !

    I honestly couldn’t tell you were switching between the mics. I had the audio playing in my car speakers. Not bad at all.

      Hey Paul, yes it's really hard to tell the difference but I give the edge to Deity when listening to it on my studio monitors.

    At that price point, I'd recommend a studio mic, the Lewitt LCT140, it sounds awesome on speech and will run circles around anything labeled video mic save for a few high end ones like Sennheiser MKH416, fairly tight cardioid and low self noise. The Movo sounds good on 48v but it does have some self noise, similar to the Deity though. Seems like something is messed up with battery power, it should be able to work, maybe yours is faulty.

      @WORTHITORNOT  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Humm, I'll have to check into the Lewitt LCT140. I have an old shotgun microphone that uses a AA battery with XLR to 3.5mm and it always sounded good so when I was first testing this mic, I thought maybe a dead battery, tried 3 other brand new ones with the same result of really low audio. Could be I got a dud regarding that portion of the microphone.

    • @StirfriedGerman
      @StirfriedGerman Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@WORTHITORNOT Yes I don't think the mic would get enough juice from 1.5v, there must be an inverter to raise the voltage, maybe that's dead.

      Interesting one, but a bit noisy.

      @@DandoPorsaco-ho1zs Compared to ...? I used it on string quartets, voice, overheads and acoustic guitar. Yes it's noisier than Schoeps but only noticeable when you record something extremely quiet, I wouldn't call it noisy. I have a single and a matched pair, no noise issues on SSL12 interface.

    Your voice makes any microphone sound good, the battery powered audio was terrible but using fantom power sounded very good even the comparisons. Btw whatever you did at the end to fix battery audio in audio tweaking was fantastic

    If you never leave home with it, it sounds like a great mic for the money. It's highly disappointing considering how I still love my older mini shotgun (same as yours) and it made me a Movo fan ever since.

    • @WORTHITORNOT
      @WORTHITORNOT  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah that VRX-10 or is it VXR-10 sold me bigtime on Movo's microphone quality. On battery power this one is not good, but on 48v phantom power it sounds really good in my opinion. Thanks for watching !

    The MOVO with a 48V power supply had a slightly heavier bass and slightly closed upper midrange. I preferred the MOVO. However, with battery power the MOVO was terrible.

    This actually sounded very good even when compared to the Deity. The audio from the battery sounded really bad but if it’s a dedicated studio microphone, it’s a nice choice

    The Movo sounds good with Phantom power, The Deity has a better “presence”. The battery powered audio is a joke. You had to do a lot of work with that audio to make it sound good, good job !

    I don't know much about shotgun microphones, but I'm thinking of using this microphone with boom pole during my movie shootings. If I plug the jack input into my phone and record the recording on my phone, will it still sound terrible like the recording made with the battery or is the phone enough to give this power?

    • @WORTHITORNOT
      @WORTHITORNOT  Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately I can't try it with a phone and I'm sure that the battery is still required to power the microphone.
