  • Here's a wireless microphone from Godox, the WEC-S Kit 2 for your Sony camera that connects via the Sony Hot-shoe means no need for cables ! if you don't want, but you can still use a 3.5mm cable if you choose. Comes with 2 transmitters , 1 receiver and guess what, it has 3, that's right, 3 microphones. Let's see if it's any good.

I agree about its lack of fullness, missing a lot of lower frequencies. I personally don’t see an issue with using a cable to connect receiver to camera but I guess some will like the hot-shoe interface.

Interesting, this mic sounds like it's using the Sony preamp, rolled off highs and lows. You did some great processing, sounds really good 👍 There's also a slight background hiss, though still within acceptable range. Godox also just released the Magic XTI, no Sony hot shoe but better audio, similar price range. I think this shows that they're not a manufacturer and are sourcing from two different suppliers, because from a marketing perspective, this is nonsense. The Sony XTI with Sony hot shoe would be the winner. The good news is that OEMs are figuring out how to directly connect to the Sony hot shoe, so expect other brands to release solutions, I think Hollyland Lark M2 with this feature would be a no-brainer. This will also obsolete DJI and Rode pricing. For us, it is urgent to wait for new releases.

I always find your insight fascinating ! I need to get some inside information from you since you live where all the new tech is released :)

@@WORTHITORNOT I'm not sure that my insight is that deep, but I did have a good career in high tech corporate sales, and before that, electronic components. I also talked to lots of factories and designed my own products with a Chinese manufacturer in the past, although not in the sound field.
Mic design in China seems to first go through a studio (that's what Chinese call it), something like a small design lab. That lab is in touch with a bunch of component manufacturers, and they piece together parts and design the package according to customer requirements. Once complete, the design goes to a larger company for mass production. Expect design leaks at this stage, also expect the studio to try and sell the design or configuration to other customers. And you end up with fairly close releases of multiple brand products with similar performance and capabilities, in a different package (I think the same goes for many action cam brands, except for the three big players). And of course this happens all over the electronics field, including hair dryers, air conditioners etc...
Rode was created around a Chinese Neumann mic clone 🤣

Oh and how incredible is it in 2024 that not a single brand has been able to design a charging case that holds all the accessories? (wind muffs, cables, clips) Amazing!🤣🤣🤣

No microphone I'm aware of resolves past 16-bit. Certainly not the mic in those devices ;) My problem with the Sony hot-shoe mics is the hot-shoe. I think it was poorly designed (rare for Sony). Too many leads, too close together. So I often get "Camera doesn't recognize attachment" warning. Wonder if that will be the case with these things too as time goes on. As for the audio quality, sounds good enough to me (for a consumer device).
