On-topic : Both Vingegaard and Pogacar are above the rest in their own way. I would dare to say that Pogacar is more versital at this moment in time, which would make him the best rider of the world at this moment. But when it comes to racing Grand Tours it has become very clear to me in the last three Tour de France's that Vingegaard does have a bigger endurance after three weeks of racing, which makes him by far the best Grand Tour rider right now.
I can understand that Pogacar does the Giro too this year, because UAE will not accept a third season in a row without Grand Tour victory. But by doing this his chances to be of any opposition to Vingegaard only become a lot smaller sadly. Those who follow cycling very close do know what kind of weather we often have in Italy during the month of May. (Just look up some images from the last two Giro d'Italia editions, and you see what I mean.)
I have no doubt that Pogacar has the capacities to finish two grand tours in a row on the podium, but the combination Giro-Tour is a difficult one. Not only is the Giro an insane difficult and tough three week race, but often it are the many days of racing in rain and even snow that does it's work on the fatigue and exhaustion...... This is weather you don't have in the Tour or Vuelta, and that is why it is so difficult to recover from the Giro in such a way that you can compete with the best during the Tour the France too.
We all know that Pogacar is a special one, but I only give him about 25% to win this years Tour if Vingegaard is up there in good shape.

I know that if a certain Texan had pulled this off 15-20 years ago, a lot of people would have been screaming, "NOT normal."
    Now, the silence is deafening.
Shot out of a cannon, Pogacar rides away from Van Gils, Healy, Laporte, Kuss, Neilands, Mohoric, Pidcock and rides - by himself - for about 48 miles and finishes a full 2 minutes and change before Skujins.
Seriously? And no one says a word? No one asks the question? Is the question off limits now in the "clean era" of pro cycling? Perhaps the UCI should martyr an expendable UAE domestique for testing positive for a banned laxative. You know - just to show "everything's on the up and up."
    Effing hell...
Is it a criminal offense for anyone of any stature in pro cycling to ask the question? Hell, to even HINT at the question? Or is this just the UCI's way of gaslighting anyone of any importance in pro cycling, forcing them to keep their damned mouths shut and their opinions to themselves?
When Armstrong attacked Ullrich in the 2001 TDF at the foot of l'Alpe d'Huez - you know, the one where he was breaking in the turns going UP the mountain - 8 miles of hard climbing later he had beaten 2nd place by 2 minutes. And people in cycling that KNEW better were laughing at it. Laughing at Lance AND laughing at the spectacle. It was SO unbelievable it was laughable. Kinda like when the action star in a movie falls out of a plane at 20k feet without a chute and bounces both gently and safely off the window awning of a Brooklyn pizzeria. Snicker, snicker - what a laugh. And as we'd all find out a few years later, few of Armstrong's super-human feats were "normal."
Now, Tadej pulls off a similar stunt. Not for 8 miles, mind you. Not for 20 miles. Not for 30 miles. But for 48 miles - against some of the best in the current pro peloton.
You can't chalk this performance up to better training, better equipment, better nutrition, better sports physiology. Why? Because all the players in the pro peloton today are benefiting from these gains.
Something else is going on here.
Whether it's physiological or mechanical or some other manner of doping, something "not normal" is going on when a rider can stand up and ride away from a peloton of that caliber and do it for nearly 50 miles.
That's gotta sink in, especially if you've EVER ridden in a Cat 1 bike race that's full-gas from the start. The notion that 1 man could ride away from every other respectable and proven racer for 50 miles - by himself in the wind and without any benefit of the peloton draft - and put over 2 minutes on the field is absurd.
    Yet that's what Tadej did.
    "Remarkable."
I'll play along and say, "It sure it was 'fun' to watch" (just ignore all the snickers as I say it).
    Just don't call it "normal."

UAE and Visma are quite equal actually, Visma has more depth and is probably a bit more progressive but the difference is not huge anymore.
All of Jonas' victories this year have been solo rides with multiple kilometres to go. Most being 30 km solo raid but he also did a 21 solo raid.
Jonas is a beast in his own right. His strengths are different than Pogacar's who will likely often be able to thwart him in a one-day race, but Jonas will always have an edge on Pogacar in GTs. The one-week races will solely depend on who has the best form and how hard the mountains are.
      Let's just enjoy both riders.

Don't ever see Ving winning a Classic like Flanders. Pog can win them all from Classics to GCs. Visma is just a great, deep team. They got better by with the loss of Roglic. Too many GC contenders is not always the best on 1 team.

That! Is why Pgacar sucks at the tour, he picks up all these little races, burns himself out and at the Tour he starts the attacks at 1.1km, 1.05km, 1km, 900m from the finish line thinking he'll make up minutes to be a Tour winner, but at these non-important races? takes off 50km from the finish line! Dumb!!!........Meanwhile, Jonas is no where near these races, or uses them as training.

Doing this over 3 weeks is a different story and I think Vingegaard still has the better team around him. For sure it'll be epic. Would love to see Pogačar try this move at the TdF and how Vingegaard and Visma would react.
