    Ahmed's ejection (11:00): He 's being guided away by a coach, but can't resist turning back for one more outburst -which sounded to me like the magic word from "Bull Durham". Announcers, "He was walking away, with his back to the umpire, and he was thrown out of the game." (I wonder if their contracts are coming up for renewal.)

    • @milwaukeejt
      @milwaukeejt Před 5 lety +11

      Repeat with Souza's ejection (about 29:00). Amazing how the announcer misses the turned head and shoulders as Souza, like Ahmed, can't resist that parting shot that gets them ejected.

      And repeat with Harper. Big hint guys: if you turn your head to make sure the umpire hears that last comment, the umpire *will* hear it. Congratulations, you just earned your ejection.

      Well, I'm not taking up for the , mostly ex major league baseball announcers, but if you're not showing up the ump, which no one PAID to come see, I tend to agree with the EX PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYERS.

    • @blacktimhoward4322
      @blacktimhoward4322 Před 4 lety +7

      That point is irrelevant and I'm tired of hearing it. The ump's job is to eject a player if he violates any of a long list of rules. The fact that people paid to see a player has no bearing on an ump's decision, because the rulebook gives it no bearing. If the people are upset they don't get to see the player they paid for, they should be mad at the player for breaking that rule in the first place.
      If an ump ignores an ejectable offense because people like that player, he is in fact ignoring the job he was hired to do. The 'I want to see X so I deserve to see X' mentality is childish

    • @billevans6521
      @billevans6521 Před 4 lety +3

      @@blacktimhoward4322 see you serious? Rules are broken, stretched , and misinterpreted in almost every day of a LONG BASEBALL season.
      They have discretion on every,on most every decision they make. It's their egos,which they should have "ZERO", that make them, more often than not, toss someone..
      I agree wholeheartedly if a player is showing up the ump, you gone, absolutely no problem with that , bad for the young and future players. But if he gets thrown out with back turned walking away and doesn't make any bold movements that is strictly umpire ego.

MLB pitchers have a lot of movement on their pitches so very rarely will the ball be in the place when it hits the catchers mitt as it was when it crossed the plate.

    Since balls and strikes can't be reviewed here's another fun fact. On average 20% of all calls in a single game are called wrong. I love baseball but SOMETHING has to be done about umpires. In reality we have the technology to be rid of umpires entirely, going this route no player or coach could ever complain about the strike zone or a bad call ever again. Screw tradition when the numbers show just how terrible they really are.

Let 1 st base ump (or 3rd if appropriate) call it, but when they call a ball, all of a sudden the catcher and pitcher have a better angle. Time to make umpires accountable for their bad calls or dispose of them all together. I would say that $10,000 for each bad call no matter what it was, would be entirely fair. That would put an end to umpires making deals for games. Joe West is a primary example of what is wrong with bad umpires. And lastly, umpires should never be putting their hands on a player, once they do, all bets should be off and players allowed to do the same.
