The best thing they could do to fix the DLC would be to add more focus trees to it, like for Bolivia and Venezuela. That way they can make it more worth it to buy, while not changing it too much or lowering the price.
They need a Long Chile achievement or something. You could get it for controlling the entire Pacific Coast from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego. But only those costal territories and nothing else.
As a Brazilian, I Loved the DLC (It is expensive even with the Localized Price that we have in Brazil). Being able do see people of my country that I know what they did is priceless. Loved seeing Lampião with the Comunists, loved being able to fulfil every Brazilian Dream (Invade Argentina) and the Achievements names are the Supreme Meme for us (In the 2018 elections we had Cabo Daciolo who just didn't stop talking about URSAL and now I can make it come true).
Honestly if they gave all of South America like Peru, Colombia, Venezuela etc focuses and content, i think the $20 be well worth it for a whole south america content
I think the point of this path was to eventually go to war with spain, due to an achievement you can get by doing this path. But if fumbled by not giving any wargoals or cores or heck just asking to take them over. I got idea executed badly.

I didn't mind the price or the fact that we didn't get any new mechanics. The game can feel quite complicated as it is and just having a little bit of flavour versus an entire new 'Course' to me is fine. My big request over new features is refinement of existing ones and if a slightly more expensive flavour pack means some money can be spent on general improvements which you cant justify paying for then that's fine. Saving Ship, Plane, Tank templates so i can reuse my design each run would engage me so much more with the features. Because right now it's just so many clicks. I'd love to be able to stack up research so it auto starts the next one or even have an 'auto research' so for late game the techs left over just get done even if im not going to use them. Stacking Intelligence Agency researches so i don't have to keep revisting them. Dedicate Civs to railways, have the game auto create your supply lines, even if doing it yourself is more effective just some level of hands-off management, because the more features we get, the more admin we have to do.

1:30 i wish it was that simple, you can reach those focuses by like 1939 problem is "support american revolutions" doesnt flip people to communism it dives you a decision line to influence then start a revolution is any south american country, each one costing a decent amount of PP. once the civi lwar starts you are given the communist side as a poppet, problem is the ai sucks and your playing a minor nation that is effectively a straight line, you usually will take Argentina first but its a bit of a struggle if you arnt prepared for it
peru had some fun stuff in road to 56, I ended up making the inca empire, then some german called karl franz came over to visist, decided he likes the place, people starting thinking he was some goldike figure, and suddenly im now the Inkaisereich in some strange german/peruvian empire after fighting a civil war against the original inca empire
its basically the same problem as like together for victory or death or dishonour, where it was steeply priced for what really amounted to some focus trees
I'd say if this DLC was released in 2019 or early 2020, it would certainly have a better reception than now because there would be no EUyL to be compared with.

The problem with the DLC is that mods like Union Y Libertad and Road to 56 also cover South America but better with more countries, focuses, etc. FOR FREE. Why would I pay £15 for half the content of a FREE mod?
The real question is, how do South American AIs fare with the dlc on? If it changes the gameplay experience in any way, it's worth it. And the steep price is also the "upkeep tax" of Hoi4. If you want the game to keep being supported, buy the dlc. Also, 15 dollars is nothing.
I’ll say that the things that bother me is lack of research slots (you get more as smaller nations in the game) and the price. The universal military stuff is kinda annoying too but, realistically what can you do for countries that weren’t largely involved.

The game desperately, Desperately, DESPERATELY needs a new Japan focus tree. As THE main power in Asia, the continent with the most people, in 1936 and as one of THE main aggressors in WW2; their focus tree is embarrassingly dismal compared to: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Greece, Switzerland, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. One could even argue it is deficient to: South Africa, Canada, the China trees, and maybe even the Netherlands. Also forgot to mention that its significantly worse than all the Scandinavians focus trees. Nothing should be done for maintenance of the game until Japan is given a real focus tree.
I don't get why they removed 5th research slot from all trees in DLC. You start only with 2 slots as if you're very backwards country like Ethiopia, you get other two at the bottom of political and industrial trees (Mapuche Chile can have only 3 slots). And then Paradox thought it's a good idea to make achievements that makes you to do WC or almost WC although your research sucks at the start and you're generally short of research slots all game. I'm interested to know what was the thought process of such decision.
Finished playing Mapuche Chile last night for the achievement. Personally, I think Mapuche Chile really only kicks off and you can get away with taking it all the way on a mix of non-historical with your fellow SA nations manually set to historical. Every time I've tried to do it historical, the Allies get involved once you go after the Democratic SA nations, and this is well before you have any reasonable level of manpower protect your own lands and push up through Mexico, do naval invasions, push through the US, etc. Because by the TIME you're ready to do all that (due to the number of damn focuses in the way to get there), your country still sucks, you barely have a military, barely have an industry, still likely only have 2 research slots since it's a year's worth of focuses to get a third, AND the USA has woken up by then. I got lucky and had an absolutely whacked world of factions that enabled me to do it.
You also could just spend like 30 bucks every... 6 months? Or 3 months? idr exactly, I'd have to double check. The subscription setup isn't horrible if you can stomach another subscription on your bank account lol.
The latest DLC is the first one that feels like a traditional DLC - just adding flavour and something to do away from the main focus of the base game. The rest have been more like paid updates to the game.
