I come back to this interview every six months. No weightroom ADHD with these old lifters. Lots of cool reminders to keep your training simple and hard.

Man I love Marty’s stories about those old school lifters

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to and coached by Marty. He taught me a ton about lifting, but more about how to be a man. He made me read philosophy books, more than training manuals or articles, from authors such as Krishnamurti, Dostoevsky, etc.... I have heard these stories firsthand and can recite them verbatim. I have witnessed him pull 600 with a torn shoulder, to win a meet, control a maniac on the platform (Karwoski) and stun people with his knowledge. I owe him more than I can express. A legend!

I was fortunate enough to speak with him over the phone for just twenty minutes. Like Glenn Middleton and his mentor, Hugh Cassidy, he is a true Renissance Man. Thanks, Marty!

I first read it a few months after it came out. 12-13 years later I finally come back around to it again, and it’s great. Absorbing info on a whole new level.
