- When Jesus told His disciples and us about the future he built every word of it around one city on Earth named Jerusalem (Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21).
Jesus framed His words about the rest of the history of this planet by the sight of Jerusalem in all its earthly glory spread out in front of Him.
Jerusalem is the trigger that will set off the grand finale for planet Earth.
JERUSALEM is the Trigger
Twenty-six hundred years ago God foretold that the fate of the entire planet Earth would hinge upon one city.
The Fight for Jerusalem, and all the events leading up to that fight, is the spot in the news that you should keep your eyes riveted-if you want to know what God has planned for this world.
“No city has been coveted and fought over as much as Jerusalem, the City of Peace. Babylonians, Macedonians, Ptolemies, Seleucids, Romans, Byzantines, Persians, Arabs, Seljuks, Crusaders, Mongols, Mamelukes, Turks, British, and Jordanians are only some of the conquerors whose names have fluttered across the pages of its bloody and anguished past. Jerusalem is a sacred city - a city that has played a role in history out of all proportion to its economic importance or size!”
Here, briefly, are the periods In Jerusalem's fascinating history so far. Then we will look at what may soon be in the world’s headline news reports.
PERIOD-1: FIRST TEMPLE PERIOD FROM 1000 B.C.-586 B.C.
PERIOD-2: THE SECOND TEMPLE FROM 538 B.C. TO A.D. 70
PERIOD-3: GENTILE PERIOD FROM A.D. 70 TO 1948. Remember what Jesus said about these times in which we live, that He called the “times of the Gentiles”? Luke 21:24 (NKJV) And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. What have these “times of the Gentiles” looked like? Let's take a tour of this Gentile period noting the different eras that span nineteen centuries.
1. The ROMAN PERIOD (AD 70 - 33) The Romans brought their own people to repopulate the city.
2. The BYZANTINE PERIOD (330 - 638) This is the period after Constantine.
3. The FIRST MUSLIM PERIOD (638 - 1099) Mohammed began the religion of Islam and conquered the city of Jerusalem with the sword.
4. The CRUSADER PERIOD (1099 - 1187) Pope Urban 2 issued a decree saying that anyone who was willing to go to the holy land to liberate it from the Muslims would be forgiven all sins, and if unable to go, the same benefits would extend to those who contributed financially to send a substitute
5. The LATER MUSLIM PERIOD (1187 - 1517) Once again, the Muslims dominated the land of Israel for four long centuries.
6. The TURKISH PERIOD (1517 - 1917) The Ottoman Turks defeated the Muslims, and Suleiman ruled from Constantinople over the Eastern wing of the Roman Empire. Under his reign, the present walls of the city of Jerusalem were built nearly four hundred years ago.
7. The BRITISH PERIOD (1917 - 1948) The British asked the United Nations to resolve the conflict surrounding the city and the land was given to the Jews in 1948. Jerusalem was divided up into four sectors - Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Armenian.
8. Current period from A.D. 1948 to the Tribulation. But in the war of 1967, the city fell to Israeli hands and the territory all the way to the Jordan River (known as the West Bank) became a part of the Israeli state. Many people believe that this ended the domination of the Gentiles which Christ spoke about. 'Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled (Luke 21:24). This explains why some people think that Christ's return may be near.
PERIOD-4: TRIBULATION PERIOD JERUSALEM. The fourth period is still the future. The battle of Armageddon will spill over to Jerusalem.

The new testament sheds light on the old testament, including the fulfillment of OT prophecies concerning Israel. Both old and new testaments are inspired Scripture and must be taken together because the new fulfills the old. The new covenant has come and the old covenant is obsolete. In the Bible the nation of Israel was indeed God's chosen people under the old covenant, but when Jesus came and died on the cross, He established the new covenant as God had promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34. We read in Hebrews 8:6-13, 10:16-18, and 12:24 that this prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus, the mediator of the new and better covenant. Therefore, all the OT promises made to Israel have been fulfilled in the Lord Jesus, who is the promised seed of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3 & Galatians 3:16-18).
The nation of Israel that existed during the old testament era and at the time of Christ’s first coming fulfilled its purpose of bringing the promised Messiah to all the nations and is no longer a part of God’s plan of redemption for mankind, nor ever will be again. Modern day Israel is not the same as Biblical Israel, but rather a politically created nation by the U.N since 1948 and is not a fulfillment of any Bible prophecy. Jesus foretold of the destruction of Jerusalem in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21. That event took place in 70 AD and that ended not only the Judaic age, but also God's dealings with Israel as a nation.
Our focus as Christians should be to spread the gospel to all the world and not only on one nation in the middle east that has no particular significance to us or to God. Under the new covenant all people can come to faith in Christ and be saved, whether they are a Jew or a Gentile because the dividing wall has been removed and all who believe are one body in Christ (Ephesians 2:14). Only those who believe in Jesus are saved and are God's chosen, covenant people. We should pray for the salvation of Israelis just as we pray for people of all nations.

I watch and rewatch and re rewatch all Dr. Barnett's lectures. This guy's fire with The Sword.
1. Is there only one god, or are there multiple gods? If multiple, how is a person to choose which deserves obedience? If there is only one good, who is Baal? If Baal is a false god, precisely what makes your god NOT false, aside from it telling you that is the case?
2. Would you agree that before anything can exist, something has to create it?
Did your god create everything? If yes, who/what created your god?
3. Is your god infallible?
4. Is your god omnipotent?
5. Is your god omniscient?
6. Is your god benevolent, or malicious?
7. If your god cannot make mistakes, then it follows that everything it creates is either perfect, or that your god intentionally makes things that are flawed. Would a benevolent god intentionally create something likely to suffer because of its flaws?
8. If your god can do anything, and it created the universe, why didn't it simply create a perfect world inhabited by perfect beings? If your god wanted obedience, and god is not malicious, why did god make disobedience possible?
9. If your god knows everything, does it already understand every thought and feeling you have? Does it instantaneously know everything you say and do? If yes, what is the point of religious rituals, such as prayer?
10. Why would an omnipotent and omniscient god not communicate directly and unambiguously with individuals, with no need of books, churches, prophets, signs, miracles, etc?
If a person is not intelligent enough, or not "worthy" enough to speak directly with god, whose fault is that? Who made the person in the first place? If a person is unworthy or incapable of directly communicating with god, how can that person be capable of recognizing a valid spokesperson for god?
11. Think about the person/people who convinced/persuaded/ordered you to believe in a version of god. Are they infallible? Is it at all possible for them to tell you something they sincerely believe, but for that thing they tell you to be actually incorrect?
12. Are feelings reliable tools to guide actions?
Suppose I hear a person in my neighborhood talking a lot about the presence of violent break in robberies nearby, and I get apprehensive. I am convinced by the passion my neighbor puts into this story, even though I've seen no tangible evidence.
That night, I hear a noise. I FEEL certain that it is a robber breaking in to harm my family. I get out of bed, pull a pistol from the bedside table. Without opening the bedroom door, I shoot through it to get the robber. When I open the door, there is my son, lying dead on the floor from my bullet.
I was sure. I relied on my feelings. My fear of a robber. My hope of being a defender father. Feelings, not facts. Was that a good way to live my life?
Is faith factual knowledge or is it just a feeling, something you choose to believe, without any rational proof?
There are things science does not yet have good explanations for. However, unlike religion, logic and science eagerly accept doubt, challenges and skepticism, and are eager to be revised and improved. They don't claim to be perfect. Religion does.
Religion demands blind obedience, with harsh horrific punishment in this world and the next if you fail to obey. If you ignore science, it doesn't change the facts of science, so no one has to threaten you about it.
Science (reason) built the machine you are reading this message on. Religion blows up clinics and puts burning crosses on people's lawns. Religion persecutes and murders and starts centuries of war.
Religion rapes little kids, then covers it up. Religion tells underage girls they have to get married and have kids like a farm animal slave. Religion is about ignorance and enslavement and threats and judging others for being different. Religion is about cowardly conformity. Religion is about keeping people UNquestioning and OBEDIENT, aka, slaves.
Science (reason) is about rational independent thought. Are you brave enough, strong enough, to think for yourself and stand on your own, apart from others?
14. Do you deny that religion (superstition, irrational behavior) is the root cause of most human conflict in history, that for centuries millions have been tortured and murdered "because god told me to do it"?
13. Suppose a person has a book full of maps to guide a group journey. They rely upon it, but the group is perpetually lost.
You question the book, but your friend insists that the book is accurate.
"How do you know?" you ask.
They reply, "I know that this book is accurate and perfect, because it says so in the book."
Your friend insists that the book is information directly from god....but some other people wrote the book, based on their interpretations, and all of them disagree.....but that is okay, because of how passionately they shout about their version of the maps, and how strongly it makes your friend feel.
When you show them hundreds of self contradictions in the book, they get upset and say that you are just not reading the book correctly.
Which person is messed up? You, or the book fanatic?
How do you justify cherry picking of which parts of the bible to follow? Leviticus much?
Murdered and burned many animals as a sacrifice, as you are required to ?
How many NON religious books have you ever read?
14. If the point is to die and go to heaven, why not simply commit mass suicide and get it over with?
Christ was quite literally a kamikaze; is that what you preach should be emulated in daily life?
15. Why is it necessary to use superstition and irrationality to justify your practical principles?
Why treat humans like a donkey in need of the stick of hell and the carrot of heaven?
If you want positive secular behavior, why not justify that behavior in practical terms?
Religion preys upon the weak and the stupid.
Rationalization is not scholarship.
If your god is so wise, so powerful, WHY is it so petty as to demand unconditional obedience? What kind of god would need much less DEMAND that we grovel and call ourselves unworthy? Unworthy? Who made you in the first place!
If your god is so benevolent, and so omnipotent, why does it deliberately
cause suffering?
Why the grotesque elaborate torture scene of Jesus, when god could have simply changed the world in the blink of an eye, effortlessly?
Oh, your god cannot be understood? Then HOW can you know it even exists?
Where is your factual tangible irrefutable proof?
Suppose I "believe" that you deserve to die and I am allowed by god to kill you. How are you feeling about faith NOW?
Remember 9/11? They crashed those jets because of FAITH, because they believed religion that said they would die as martyrs.
A debate over religion is exactly the same as debate between two inmates in an insane asylum over which voices in their heads are "real".
IRRATIONALITY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. Wake up.

There's nobody like you brother John. Albert Einstein said "If you have a theory and you can't explain it to a small child, then there's likely nothing to your theory". What he's saying is that if someone hasn't studied his material so well that he can explain it to a small child then he needs to study his material better. I agree, I say this because I've never listened to anyone who knows the Bible as well as you, it is amazing to listen to you. Ten years of Seminary College and writing your Thesis on the Book of Revelations is no small accomplishment, and we can set here in front of our computers and reap the benefits of your years of dedicated work.

I've noticed many respectable teachers/preachers speak of Hal Lindsey, Jack Van Impe, and John Hagee with derision. I am uncertain why.
I know their pre-trib rapture has fallen out of favor but it seems many have come to Christ after reading their books or listening to them. No one gets it all right but the level of contempt is puzzling.

He is the author of life and now holds the keys to death, hell, and the grave. So his word is life and death. makes sense and all fits together so perfectly.
Listening to this,it occurs to me that the people who believe that the church replaced the jews may well be amongst those to whom Jesus says- I never knew you.
But what if those who have been misinformed by well meaning pastors and teachers end up hearing those words? A literal reading of Ezekiel 36:24-38 clearly says the Lord will take his people out of the nations. HE will gather them…HE will clean and cleanse them…it doesn’t say God will work through Christian or Jewish Zionists and their worldly political friends. Try it for yourself. Read the passage literally. People like Dr Barnet have been teaching this interpretation for so long, people learn to see it their way instead of trusting their eyes. Separating Church and Israel is a mistake. Please listen to more views and be prepared to do the hard work of discerning between the various views. May the Lord guide your study.

I watched a documentary where Muslims that were in the battle said, They could see angels standing with the Jews and it sowed confusion into the ranks some running away, and some freaking out. the six day war was a documented miracle the entire world witnessed.

How many times does GOD have to destroy the 'city that kills the prophets' until the Synagogue of Satan starts "loving thy neighbor"?
Good question. Here's my thoughts on it. They rejected their Messiah when He came to them (except for the remnant) and God sent judgment on them in 70 AD. They have been and always will be under judgment. So I don't think they will ever "love thy neighbor" unless they become Christians, which isn't likely.

The New Covenant in Jesus does not replace the old... It is the glorious crescendo of all of God's promises. In the very last days of Tribulation, the Holy Spirit will open the eyes of the last remaining remnant of unbelieving Jews to the saving grace of our Lord and Savior.

In spite of what some may say, everyone doesn't make it. Jesus says, "no one comes to the Father but through me".
The Jews who still reject Jesus as Messiah need to come to Him to be grafted back in, just like the rest of the unbelievers. The gift is for everyone who come to belief in Him and to true repentance. That's the message of the Gospel that the non believers need (Jew and Gentile alike). Any message to the contrary is really taking the Lord's name in vein and cheapening what Jesus did for us on that cross and in his resurrection.

Ezekiel 38-39 describes the Gog battle or battles depending on your perspective. It is very easy to determine the timing of the Gog/Magog war. If we look at the end of Eze 39 we see a set of conditions that can only be true at a particular time in history.
Eze 39:21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
Eze 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
Eze 39:23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
Eze 39:24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
Eze 39:25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
Eze 39:26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
Eze 39:27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
Eze 39:28 Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
Eze 39:29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
The conditions described at the end of Eze 39 can only occur at the end of the age. Israel knows God from that day forward, the gentiles will see the judgment God has dished out, God will pour His spirit out upon the house of Israel and no longer hide His face from Israel. God rescues Israel at the battle of Armageddon. So that makes the end of the Gog battle (Eze 39) line up with the timing of Armageddon. That makes Gog the AntiChrist which we see hinted at in Eze 38.
Eze 38:17 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
God says the prophets of Israel wrote about Gog in their writings. This defines Gog as the AC since Armageddon is where God defeats the AC and company which is also the Gog war. When we search the OT for a battle in Israel that God defeats the enemies arrayed against Israel with Israel returning to the Lord for ever after. We find such descriptions in the Day of the Lord scriptures from the OT. The DOTL scriptures end with God defeating the armies invading Israel and Israel returning to the Lord for ever after just as we see in Eze 39.
