  • What Must I Do to Be Saved?
Acts 16:31 explained from Acts 2-28
God has given us an amazing picture of salvation in Acts. Salvation has only one Door (Christ), but has many descriptions (these accounts). Every one of us who comes to Christ, finds that He does what these accounts describe when He enters our lives.
Each of the 22 different individual portraits of salvation God records for us, are the way to eternal life; but all of them are true about the life of everyone going to Heaven. You see, when God saved us He made us new creations, and transformed us into the sons and daughters of God.
Welcome to the Gospel of God, written down for us in Acts. For the opening thirty years of Christ's church, from Christ's Ascension in AD 30 until Paul’s arrival in Rome to await trial in AD 60: God has given us a Divine Summary of the Gospel. Paul, Peter, James, Jude, and John all explain the doctrine surrounding salvation; but the Book of Acts gives the actual words of the actual messages, when salvation is offered and received.
In the study of the sharing of the Gospel, there is really nothing more vital than the words we have before us today in Acts. Today we are going to step back and look at the entirety of this history of the Gospel’s spread. Right almost in the middle of Acts these most famous words are spoken by the jailer of Philippi to Paul: “What must I do to be saved?”
The answer can be found in the sum of all the parts as well as in the simple response of Paul in Acts 16:31: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.” Salvation is both simple and profound. It is impossible yet so constantly effective. Salvation can be perplexing, confusing, and incomprehensible to so many, but to those who believe and respond it is always the power of God.
Join me in Acts 16:31, as we listen to this simple explanation of the Gospel by Paul.
Acts 16:31 (NKJV) So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST?
To the jailer’s simple question, we can answer with God’s complete record of all that He wanted us to know, to hear, and to see in these 28 chapters. What Must I do to Be Saved? Simply believe that Salvation is:
    1. Coming to Christ and Away from Religion (Acts 2:21, 37-38)
    2. Wanting Jesus More than My Sin (Acts 3:19,26)
    3. Seeing Jesus Christ as the Only Door to Salvation (Acts 4:12)
    4. Finding that the Holy Spirit has Changed My Life (Acts 5:31-32)
    5. Receiving a New Heart (Acts 8:21-23)
    6. Believing with all your heart (Acts 8:35-37)
    7. Wanting Jesus as the Lord to Obey (Acts 9:1-6)
    8. Knowing the Peace of Sins Gone (Acts 10:36,39-43)
    9. Turning to the Lord in repentance (Acts 11:21)
    10. Having both the Penalty & Record of ALL my sins forever gone (Acts 13:38-48)
    11. Turning from Useless Things to the Lord (Acts 14:15,21,27)
    12. Asking God to purify my heart (Acts 15:7-9)
    13. Heeding God’s Word from an Opened Heart (Acts 16:14-15)
    14. Believing in God the Son as the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31-34)
    15. Following Jesus as the New King of my life (Acts 17:6-7)
    16. Reaching out to God as True Creator & Repenting of all Idols (Acts 17:22-34)
    17. Believing & Worshipping God (Acts 18:8-13)
    18. Entering God’s Kingdom & Following God’s Way and no longer mine (Acts 19:8-26)
    19. Repenting & Believing in the Kingdom of Christ (Acts 20:21-25)
    20. Following the Way of God’s Righteousness, Self-control & Judgment (Acts 24:14-27)
    21. Experiencing God-opened Eyes & God-turned Living (Acts 26:18)
    22. Entering God’s Kingdom & Living God’s Way (Acts 28:28-31)
    THE TESTIMONY GOD GAVE US
The book of Acts is a report that God gave to us, of how the Apostles Christ personally trained, and the disciples they trained, shared the Gospel message in every possible setting.
What we get is to see how the eyewitnesses and those they trained, shared with the world what happened in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Amen! Jesus is the author and perfecter of your faith(Heb. 12:1). Jesus is the alpha and omega of your faith. What's the author's plan for your life? It is your salvation. Then, what will be the perfecter's goal of your life? It is your holiness. The more you fix your eyes on Jesus, the more you become mature in your holiness.

Yes, that makes sense. But we must be careful when we listen to or agree with the policies of other humans. Harboring the Holy Spirit of God allows one to know when others are trying to lead you astray. Also, the Bible says that we will know them by their deeds. A perfect example is how we in America treat foreigners, those in far away places and those who show up at our door. The Bible tells us how to treat foreigners. Yet a lot of Bible preachers are all about voting for this side or voting for the other side, some even want and appear to be hoping for more wars on those that don't read The New Testament. I don't think the conquistadors who held up The Bible as the reason for war, were Righteous people, although they did claim to be at that time.

@@cullenbentley9880 That makes sense, but you said we should not be Critical to them, but if they are living in sin by promoting war and a war economy for our children as one of the few options, they shouldn't we bring that into the light? How else will they have a chance to repent? You said being different, but is it different or is it constant decade after decade of sin? I don't believe in throwing or casting a stone, but should we bring things to light when the sins are so great and the future of our youth is at stake? I don't know if you noticed, but the war business has caused unbelievable amounts of suffering all for business. I see that as obvious and against all that is Righteous.

I just added a message on this subject by Charles Spurgeon, which is not in disagreement but perhaps (In My Minds Eye) explains it a bit more carefully for someone, such as myself!. Pastor Barnett is one of my favorite Pastors but though the scriptures are clear concerning the end result, Gods loving path of sanctification for each Individual will differ, sometimes greatly! (Like the thief on the cross and other Biblical examples) This is why we must be careful not to try to pull up the tares from among the wheat because there will be many 11th hour Christians. Also, many many people who desire the Lord but are lost in their own weakness & consequences of choices in their lives. The Lord may need to use the furnace of affliction in order to burn out all of the dross in many lives, Who Will Then Like Jacob, Walk With A Limp & lean on a staff! (Jesus) I don't mean to argue any point made here but merely add to it, in hopes it will help some not to lose hope, EVER but Keep pressing and pleading for Gods mercy. For Gods Mercy Endures forever but not for the unrepentant & the proud but only for a time he sees can & will sincerely Sanctify the heart of a sinner! I agree whole heartedly that Faith Without Works Is Dead But God Alone, Knows His Own & how to get us home!!! I Cried Out To God To Do Whatever It Took To Save My Soul And He Heard That Cry...The One He Prompted. I Lost Everything And Still Gained More. God Bless🙏

What about the scriptures in Acts that tell us to repent of sin?
The day of pentecost which is the start of the church started in Acts 2
    Acts 2:37-38
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the REMISSION OF sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
    Acts 3:19
REPENT ye therefore, and be converted (believe), that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord
    Acts 11:18
When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.
Keep Acts 16:30-31 in context, continue to the next 2 scriptures.
    Acts 16:32-33
32Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. (Since we know from Acts 2:38 and forward that water baptism was for the burying of the old sinful man and the rising of the new man in Jesus and for the final outward appearance of repentance after they repented of sin) We can surmise what the word of the Lord was to him
Repent of sin since the next verse says he and his household were all baptized.
33At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.
    Acts 17:30
And the times of this ignorance God winked at but now commandeth ALL MEN every where to REPENT
    Acts 20:21
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, REPENTANCE TOWARD God, and FAITH (believe) toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
    Acts 26:20
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should REPENT AND TURN TO GOD (believe) and DEMONSTRATE THEIR REPENTANCE BY THEIR DEEDS.
We are saved by grace through repentance which is the consequence of faith.

The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Baptism is not tied to salvation, which was also taught here. Baptism is separate from faith and believing on Him; it is following Him as an act of obedience but is not a prerequisite to be saved. Spiritual baptism by the Holy Ghost into the body of Christ is required, not being sprinkled or dunked in water.

Yahshua - you know Him as Jesus - was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, calmed the storm, and fed a crowd of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, among many other things. He was killed on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus/God. Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came in the flesh to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name!
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. - Matthew 26:6-13
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
To anoint your self, the sick, or a building for spiritual protection:
Get a small bottle of olive oil and pour off a small amount into a smaller vessel like a vial or baby food jar. Use the rest of the bottle for cooking. Ask the Lord to bless your vial of oil in Jesus name. Anoint yourself with the oil by placing a dab of oil on tip of finger and touch it to your forehead, and ask the Lord to bless you/heal you. Place a dab of oil on your finger and anoint the door posts and order all negativity and evil out of the house, and order that nothing negative or evil can enter into your home including piggybacking on a person entering, order it to be so in the name of Jesus. Anoint all potential entrances to your home. To anoint the sick, place oil on tip of finger and touch it to the head of the sick and say a prayer of healing over them in Jesus name. See James Chapter 5:14-15.............

How do you know that you are saved? Watch out! Many teachers will have this unBiblical 'salvation test' - where you are the judge! For example, do you love the Word, hate sin, are not embarrassed by Christ, etc. Yet, Romans 8.16 states that, "The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God." Do not forget the qualifier, "If indeed the Holy Spirit dwells within you." Now, if you claim to know the Lord, that He bears witness with your spirit that you are saved, you won't need a 'test' to see if you are saved.
For example, in 44 years, I have not had even one second of doubt that I know the Lord and am bound for heaven - not even for a second. Why? Because I am 'seated in the heavenlies with Christ,' and I have the 'down payment of the Holy Spirit,' my guarantee of eternal life. Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me (i.e. knows Me) will have rivers of living water bubbling up unto eternal life." By simple logic, if you do not have that river of life, then neither are you saved.
Does the Holy Spirit abide with you? If you are not sure that you are saved, you probably are not. Salvation is simply knowing the Lord (John 17.3). How can you know the Lord and not know it? How can you have a river of life bubbling up inside you, but not be aware? Do you know Christ or will He say, "Depart from Me; I never knew you"?
If you do not know the Lord, ask and you shall receive! Better yet, thank the Lord for filling you with the Holy Spirit - as if it is already done - as the unbelieving heart will not receive anything from God. You can know Christ - just by asking! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

    • @kenshiloh
      @kenshiloh Před 2 lety

@@pfwindham Hi. Are we the judge if we are saved or not? For example, if I do the I-3 John test, how do I know that God agrees with my conclusion? Instead, I encourage to carefully and prayerfully consider Romans 8.16, "The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God." Do not forget the qualifier, "If indeed the Holy Spirit dwells within you."
Concerning the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me will have rivers of living water bubbling up inside them unto eternal life." Conversely, if you do not have that river of life, neither do you believe in Jesus. Have you had a personal encounter with God? That is the only criteria for salvation. As it is written, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." Conversely, to those condemned, He will say, "Depart from Me; I never knew you." Knowing Christ is everything!
However, if a person claims to know the Holy Spirit, to have that river of life, the Holy Spirit bearing witness that they are saved, that is when it is important to check in with First, Second, and Third John. For example, if a person says they know the Lord, yet does not love the Word of God, nor cares about the lost, nor loves the people of God, then that would seem to indicate a false conversion (yet only God and that person can know!).
Have you had a personal encounter with Christ? Do you have rivers of living water bubbling up inside you unto eternal life? If not, it may be that Christ may say to you, "I never knew you." Put another way, how can you know the Lord and not know it?
May the Lord grant you peace as you claim these promises of God! I encourage you to pray, "Thank you Lord for giving me that river of life, for bearing witness with my spirit that I am saved. Thank you for filling me with the Holy Ghost!" Remember, ask and you shall receive! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

      @kenshiloh Před 2 lety +2

@@brucewmclaughlin9072 Hi Bruce. I love to testify of what the Lord has done for me, about those 'rivers of living water.' It's a great read; I hope you will enjoy what I have to share. It's an amazing story.
First, I was raised by my atheist father, never hearing the gospel until the age of 17. Shortly thereafter, I walked onto the lawn of a church one night and prayed my first prayer, "Is there Jesus? I would like to meet Him!" I extended my hands forward and I saw the Lord descend the last couple of feet to the earth, a white silhouette; I could see the outline of His robe. He took a step and took my hands. Instantly, all over, I felt heaven and that my heart was made out of gold. I walked away thinking, "That was heaven, but I am on earth. What is heaven doing on earth."
Now, before I was saved, the Holy Spirit bore witness to the truth of the gospel through the testimonies of Christians. I encourage you to stop and ask the Holy Spirit if what I am saying is true. If you are not aware of Him bearing witness, that is no problem with me. Yet, if you want to doubt my experience, please provide Biblical support as to how I was only deceived, not actually meeting the Lord. Thanks!
However, is it not written in the Bible, 'you are seated in the heavenlies with Christ', that the "Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God (Romans 8.16)"? I asked to meet Jesus and I met Him; as it is written, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." We have been great friends (I cannot begin to tell you what great friends we are).
The verse I encourage you to remember, maybe even print out and post on your wall, are the words of Christ, "The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water (John 7.38)." The reason this verse is SO important is that, if a person does not have that river of life, they do not truly believe in Jesus!
However, it is impossible to describe my friendship with the Holy Ghost, but I will try. First, my father was insanely abusive, telling me how he would imagine, with delight, torturing and killing me; I could see the homicide in his eyes: he really wanted to kill me! Of course, with such an upbringing, I had all kinds of problems with my self esteem. In my mind, I would constantly echo all of the terrible things my father said to me to the point of chronic, near suicidal, depression. Yet, since I know the Lord, the Holy Spirit floods over me, just pouring love out on me. He is the 'river of life' that Christ spoke about.
Later, rather than being full of abuse, the Lord has allowed me to be a loving parent to my kids. They are now adults - and they are so great! It sure was not me, but the all glory to God! That same love God pours out on me, I was able to pour into their lives!
Moroever, I cannot describe how the Holy Spirit speaks to me. A few times, He has actually spoken words, not in my ears, but in my spirit. Yet, most of the time, I just know what He is saying. For example, I was called by the Holy Spirit to teach public school in the inner city, East Palo Alto, CA. A friend told me that (at that time) it had the highest per capita homicide rate in the United States; there were regular shoot outs in the streets. Moreover, I would be teaching at a school where a teacher had been stabbed. I cannot tell you how frightened I was; my bones were like jelly! Yet, the Lord spoke to me, "Don't worry; I will go with you." I taught for years in EPA and I can honestly say, I never had even a twinge of fear - despite being threatened gang members - yet, not even a hint of fear.
Perhaps the best way I can describe the Holy Spirit in my life is with a really fun riddle. This is absolutely true: 1) In 45 years, I have not had even one second of doubt that I am saved. 2) About 40 years ago, I doubted my salvation. Bet you a million dollars (jk) that you cannot figure this one out! Please read 1 and 2 again and see if you can come up with the solution. I don't think so! Here's the answer:
About 40 years ago, my father said to me, "Not even God could love you!" The thought went through my mind, "Yeah, I guess you are right." However, before I could even finish that thought, my good Friend, the Holy Spirit, flooded over me, assuring me that I was greatly beloved and accepted through the blood of Jesus Christ. Years later, I decided to time how long this 'period of doubt' lasted; my best estimate is 0.34ths of second. That is how I have not had even one second of doubt, but I did doubt my salvation!
If you will, think of your best friend. Now, realize that Christ wants to be an even better, closer friend. That is why He created you: for friendship with Him! How did my life get this blessed? I assure you, there is nothing impressive about me! In fact, in high school, I probably would be voted, "Most likely to become a street musician." Yet, all I did was one, simple request of God. I said, "Is there Jesus? I would like to meet Him!" I hope that you will, likewise, get to know Christ!
Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

From what I remember from a recent video I saw, it said the name of Jesus Christ translates into "Savior The Savior" so that was interesting knowledge.
I don't know directly what God's favorite name is that we should be using. God did not tell me what I should say for a name for my Creator. Or at least, I don't remember ever discussing the "correct name" topic when I had Conversations. The way I remember it, I said, "You are my Creator." to The Messiah when my soul was intercepted prior to coming here. I do not remember God correcting me. I remember God being completely ok with that. I only remember probably around 1 or 2 percent of what happened. All of my memory was removed prior to being born into this world. But later I was allowed to remember a number of events and multiple conversations with God and this part is in one of those that was returned to me.
God knows what is in your heart. When you pray to God, if you are sincere I don't think the name is the question, it is what is in you're heart that must be True.
I believe it is ok to use Jesus, God, The Creator and the other common translations of those. I actually only heard of the name "Yeshua' after my born again experience which led me back to our Messiah, The Messiah, The Word and more learning of those times through The Word, The Holy Spirit of God.
Jesus Christ, Yeshua, The Messiah, The Savior of human souls will take all credit.
      God bless you!
