As a sax and clarinet player myself, I was blown away by this. That took serious discipline. It's about time the horn sections make a comeback in mainstream music.
I love brass music.
I've seen Winton & Branford Marsalis a number of times as well as the late Miles Davis once.
I think these young ladies are fabulous.
Japan has a ferocious jazz/funk scene with a lot of tremendous Japanese musicians and a large group of expats also. And a LOT of them are female. There is a great female jazz group called The Jazz Avengers, as well as acts like Uko Saxy, The Sax Triplets, Foxy and a host of others. It's like a never-ending buffet of all the jazz/funk you can take.
Sax peaked in mainstream music during the 90s. Any song without sax.. sucked! It needs a comeback! Horns are AMAZING!
They certainly are. Just look at Quarterflash, with Rindy Ross wailing away. And Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis and Hall and Oates used the sax a lot. Jersey rock icon Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes was also big into brass and was supposed to be part of the reason Bruce had Clarence Clemons in the E Street band. Chicago also had a great brass section, but the best are still the group that were part of Blood, Sweat and tears.
I’m all for it ‼️‼️‼️‼️😂🔥🔥
This is stuff that only people who play the instruments would truly understand and appreciate just how difficult tgis is
I don't think I can even do it sitting down-
@@blep852 I know I can't do this period
Marching band vet here, it can be with practice & repetition it becomes rote. What awes me was watching the late hrh queen elizabeths jubilee parade where the band members played while riding horseback.
I don't play any instrument and it was dope I know good sound when I hear it😀
I'm trying to breathe for all of them while super impressed!
They can maintain such a nice tone and such full air support while DANCING. MAD respect
My daughters were in a high step marching band in high school. They talked about how hard it is to play while dancing and moving like they do. And my daughters didn't dance nearly as aggressively and as much as this group did.
That’s exactly what l was thinking. Breathing, playing and dancing??!!! 🤯🤯🤯
These young ladies may not have the same level of musical proficiency (my assumption) but they do this for as long as it takes. Try jumping while playing percussion ;)
czcams.com/video/ZVJ3Ho83Ksg/video.html
Girls brought the sass with the brass, and brought the house down.
They look like students from the world-famous Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School. ALL the students play one or two instruments and practice 7 days a week. Played in the 2012, 2018 Rose parade. Izumo Business High School features this song...so it might be that band...
Sofia was the only judge that gave it the credit it deserved. Howie seemed like he struggled saying he liked it. These girls are amazing and their talent is just unbelievably off the charts.
I love them.
well how it’s a fucking creep
Right! And they had the entire audience on their feet and dancing!
It basically is one of the kinda regular moments where the vast audience in the country gets a glimpse on how brutally controlled entertainment media is - in this case in America. Something that doesnt fit what people like those judges dont deem to fit, is not good, even if the folks behind the judges are absolutely on fire.
Ever wondered where those pesky ear worm summer songs come from, which get brutalized up and down on radio for months on end? Simon Cowel and others are literally dictating music taste and talent however they see fit.
He said he liked it, what, he didn't fawn over it properly? I am not particularly a fan of any of the judges and only catch a random performance when it goes viral and the YT thumbnail catches my eye. With that aside, imo it was the technical hardship that was impressive, not so much the music itself...and most don't have a clue how difficult *that* was... I didn't until I read the comments.
Listen, the girls get a 10 for talent but lets be honest, wasn't it more of a musical gimmick than a showcase of pure *musical* talent alone? Was it not a purely performative act, based on the hardship, not the music in and of itself? If they came out and played behind a curtain and all you heard was the music, would it still sound as amazing to you? Yes, the audience went wild but was that primarily from the music or from their "act"? Would the audience go out of their way to listen to their music, sans the visuals? Music is subjective, so there may be a few, but I doubt the majority.
FYI The "entertainment industry" does not have the power it once did, now that anyone can go online and be exposed to every kind of music from every corner of the globe (hence me watching this band). @@Randleray
edit: Also, if what you said is true, the show didn't have to book them at all and the judges of past shows would *never* have reacted so positively to people like Susan Boyle. Apologies for the long rant.
@@susanivy3619 "Also, if what you said is true, the show didn't have to book them at all"
Are you really this short sighted?!
Since its beginnings almost 20 years ago, the 'Got Talent' shows regularly book mediocer and downright bad talents, so the judges can actually judge.
Its first and foremost an entertainment show. And just like most other shows only function with a certain amount of drama, Got talent needs that aswell...
You have good thoughts, but you still gotta mauch to learn. Dont want to sound cendecending tho.
No sob story, no drama, no self-important pity effect. Just TALENT!
Very good point!
True, no drama just talent
Those that your complain about this have something in common; hard work. So next time you are critical because of sob stories remember that the sob story guys probably had to overcome more just to get there. Remember that.
@@Sbudre these girls most likely have their own sob story, but they don't bring it up. They are privileged to be able to try to make it to the show. Like all contestants.
@@happy777abc I live in Japan. These girls don't have the kind of sob story that bears mentioning. Stories of adversity and overcoming adversity provide additional context and inspiration for any accomplishment. Think about a time you achieved something against incredible odds and how it made you feel to succeed. Don't diminish people's accomplishments by refusing them the opportunity to share their adversity in achieving them
Listen, these ladies did something that is not easy at all. Dancing and controlling while playing, is totally difficult and they aced it!! Loved every minute of it!!!
This. The woman who did the crazy solo is UNBELIEVABLE because doing that while dancing is NOT easy at all. This is real talent, hard work, and everything else as well

You KNOW you are good.
Not true.

@@redrick8900 Yes, but moving while playing an instrument that requires controlling your breathe is pretty hard
The judges kept saying "girl group" like that was the most important thing. This is a slammin' jazz-funk-rock quartet and their gender is a very minor distinction. They killed it!
I 😢😅 😅😢w🎉I 😅😢😢😢
I don’t blame them for saying that, it’s out of the ordinary which makes it more exciting
Because they are considered a Girl Group in the industry, just like there are Boy Groups.
Girl Group sounds better than Jazz-Funk-Rock-QUARTET.
Just saying. Also these judges probably don't know music jargon. Not everyone knows music terminology.
Women, on average, have a larger lung capacity and control than men.
I wanted a Golden Buzzer for these girls. The judges seemed confused...like music can't be good if it isn't sung. They deserved the buzzer just for their breath control alone. This was brilliant. ♥
What musical instrument can you play very well.?
@@chatrynahow did you use this emoji here😂
They didn't have a sad story so no buzzer for them.
Reminded me of some of the school bands in DC. They dance and play. Wow

Please! It's as easy as those ballet performances danced by so-called ballet "professional" dancers. I often walk and run on my tip toes when at the beach and the sand gets too hot... there's no way I would have trouble dancing or twirling on them.

Trumpet/ piano was my major at university, and I now work as a composer and arranger. I can tell you that dancing and playing at the same time is no joke.
That’s what I was thinking. I used to play the trumpet in high school in the friggin cold. My lips would get so sore. Amazing job.
@@tekkenmaster123always fun when your valves freeze too 😂
they do this quiet often in their marching bands...
not saying it is easy... just saying their high level marching bands also do something similar...
I remember a Japanese high school band came to my country once to perform and they were INSANE. they were swinging their instruments all around while playing. Their energy and synergy were off the charts and their playing was immaculate. The kicker is that they were all high school students! It is really no joke!
Yeah no kidding... I'm out of breath just watching😅

Yeah, but let's be honest, it would have been difficult without knowing EngIish...just sayin'.
@@susanivy3619They had an interpreter. It’s just not part of the culture, from what I’ve seen as a Jpop fan. The Japanese work ethic can go too far to the other extreme, but in Western reality TV, it seems like the sob story is exploited to get more views for the show whereas in Japan the focus is supposed to be on the performers’ work.
The trombone and trumpet deserve credit too
No tugging at heart strings but ample schmoozing. "We ate American cheeseburgers, yum yum!" McDonald's has been in Japan for over 50 years.
I love them ️. No sob story, no drama, no self-important pity effect. Just TALENT!.
As a trumpet, french horn and pretty bad trombone player, this sent shivers down my spine. It's absolutely incredible how they managed to control their articulation to such a high standard while moving around. Many players have trouble playing properly while simply walking. The fact that they could do something like this... I've never seen ANYTHING like it. It's shocking. I'm pretty sure not even players like Louis Armstrong could've done something like this. This is not just talent... this is absolutely legendary. If anyone ever deserved a golden buzzer, its them.
So true! My jaw dropped. To move like that but have sound so amazing.
It's obviously prerecorded
@@DrZombieDeadpool Unless they are moving all the slides and pressing down all the valves down at exactly the same time as a recording, it's not.
Pretty impressed after this explanation
Have you not seen Kyoto Tachibana HS Band? They do this {play+dance} while marching for 2 hours! This is just Japanese grown-ups continuing what they were taught to do in school. Bloody impressive though and never gets old!
this is the talent that this show actually is for. they are great
We’ll put, and did you notice that there was no sob story and drama to try sell their performance? Cos they don’t have to supplement their talent.

@@RenegadeSamurai IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO ANYTHING MORE THAN 100%! That's the meaning of 100%. Anytime someone says they gave more than 100%, it's just nonsense.

It’s so tragic, that nobody can get a golden buzzer except if you sing, dance, do magic or tell jokes. They absolutely aced the show, it was so great. I don’t want to start talking what a great discipline, self control and lungs they have. They absolutely deserved 10 golden buzzers.
These girls have SKILL!! All of these instruments, especially the trumpet and trombone, require so much air to be hitting those notes, and they're all hitting them flawlessly while DANCING! The articulation is some of the cleanest I have ever heard at 2:17 OMG. None of this even considers the difficulty of the arrangement, their blend, and so many other technical aspects that mark this group as massively skilled at their craft. These girls are absolutely incredible! I'm glad that the audience recognized it, because the judges clearly did not understand what was happening in front of them.
I love how fas tthe crowd got into it. It stopped being a talent show for a few minutes and was just a crowd of people letting the rhythm take over. The positive vibes coming out of this room were so bright it was practically glowing!
Should have been a golden buzzer just for the audience reaction!
They are HUGE crowd pleasers for SURE. I saw another video that said the backstage crew, who I imagine to be at least somewhat jaded, were bopping along enthusiastically the whole time. Just watch that audience jumping up and down!
These girls really brought great energy and chemistry to their performance, would love to see a full concert with them. Would especially LOVE to hear them do some Earth Wind &. Fire covers (imagine a MOS-ified version of Boogie Wonderland! That would SLAP!)
These beautiful young ladies were so great. I can't imagine a brass quartet being so talented! God bless these sweet young ladies for their talent.
Depending where they come from in Japan, many large High Schools have their own Marching bands, they are really popular in Japan, I'm guess its where these girls learnt their craft, They are brilliant Musicians and they learn to play while dancing in their marching bands all through HS. Look up Kyoto Tachibana SHS Marching band and you'll see what i mean....love it!!

I genuinely don't understand how Simon is a judge. He really does not understand music. Watch ANY of the JYP reality shows, and not only can he explain why there was an issue, he can perform it himself to show what he means. Simon knows he is expected to be needlessly critical without any SPECIFIC explanation. Just negativity, so he leans into it. Meanwhile, I think we could have heard this from any college marching band in America.
The breath control is staggering! Judges simply under-appreciate the discipline required to pull this off.

@@grizzlyb9625 I'm wondering 2~ 😄😄😄

Oh damn it must have been really difficult for these girls to dance and play wind instruments at the same time, so talented 😭😭

It's only difficult for beginners. Those with experience, it's not that hard.
When I was kid (pre-CZcams) I saw a trumpet player on TV who blew me away and I fell in love with the sound, but after spending a year listening to myself I gave up. These performers' talents really show how great these instruments can sound. Maybe if I'd had examples like this on CZcams to motivate me, I'd have stuck with it.
