I always took it her loosing strength because she was moments away from succumbing to the spells destruction. I think she felt that she is no longer needed by them and was fearing abandonment, but she wanted to help anyway with one final action. She wanted to take out the largest threat to them even if it met going out in the process.

Basically, it makes a lot of sense to kill of a caracter like Eda, though the finale may be a bit late to do it.

I think this is a really interesting take on the mentors sacrifice, it’s pretty meta really, she thinks her job is done and is willing to end it all, similar to how most writers kill mentors off after their usefulness is spent.

Kudos to Raine for realizing what Eda was trying to do and stopping her from making a grave mistake. And after knowing that "Eda had kids" you can see how they do/did everything to avoid putting Eda into danger(i.e. being part of this secret conspiracy against Belos).
Bard magic is my favorite type in the show. Bards in general are so aesthetically pleasing to me, someone who grew up utterly obsessed with music, but TOH presents it in such a gorgeous way that I feel is 100% accurate to life. When you're listening to such emotionally affective music, it feels exactly like how what we see in this scene. It's always felt like a fundamental change to me.
I love the tone in Eda's voice when she asks ''bit it will stop the emperor, right?'' Because, in her mind, if she can protect Luz and King, it is worth it
Looking back at this after the recent episode, Belos seems to be planning the Draining Spell. According to Darius, he suggested Eda to handle it *because* of this one ability she was able to do. I didn’t understand the scene at first why they needed Eda but now I do.

I think it's something like manipulating ALL of the magic around them (sounds OP and it kinda is), and the effect being influenced by their own magic and state of mind. Like when Eda was younger and happier, for example, the effect was blooming flowers.
I won't include major spoilers but coming from the new episode, Bard magic can change certain composition or chemistry of things. Not to mention, they can affect objects in a large area through sound (music). However with the curse that's draining Eda's magic, making her powerless at the moment, also drains magic around her with the help of Bard magic.

This show taught me two things: appearances can be deceiving (types of magic considered useless and people among other things can lie to you) and after hollow mind anyone can have the ability to do good and evil (belos as he went from a normal witch hunter to a genocidal ruler and luz a weird girl who brought out the best in both amity and hunter)
With the context of Raine and Darius now working against Belos is it possible that the spell Eda and Raine performed removed some sort of mind control off of Darius and the other Coven head? While they didn’t kill Darius perhaps they were able to burn off the Emperors control over him.

This scene always makes me have chills, its easily one of my fav moments in TOH, this scene made me fall in love with their relationship, and raine's character in general, they are already one of my fav characters because of how well they are written and implemented with the story.
Why hello there, it’s me, a person from the future! Looking back, the line of 1:29 “they both have real families to return to” wasn’t even completely true. Kings dad is dead and has been for quite a while, and luzs dad died when she was young. Eda was ready to die believing that they didn’t need her and could go back to complete families, and that wasn’t true for either of them. Makes this even more depressing in hindsight :(
Yeah it would have been very very painful as your body start to burn alive and knowing that you can't stop it and that you will die would be mentally painful and the regular kind of painful too
It’s interesting watching this now that we know that Darius and Eberwolf are working against belos. If this plan went through, the result would probably be worse than we thought. With no other coven heads against Belos, he may have found different witches (Alador?) to take the place of the coven heads before the day of unity and without Eda and the other coven heads, it would just be up to the rest of the owl house and luz’s friends to beat belos
classic plot of the photo that conveniently show up to change peoples mind XD but it's good because Rain plan was ill conceived. even if they did managed to delay the day of unity by killing covens leaders, Belos would just have to wait for another occasion.
Spoilers for the last episode of season three: This scene literally looks like a whole foreshadowing of Belo’s virus taking over everybody. And Darius’ form looks just like Belos deformed
What made Darius and Eberwolf(or however you spell it) team up with Raine?? Like, them and Eda were about to commit double-die + self-die. That's a pretty heavy thing to forgive and forget.
I briefly wondered about these parts when we see Darius and Eberwolf are also against the Emperor, but realised it could have been that neither knew the other were against Belos. We could imply Darius has been against it for a long time as the previous golden guard was his mentor and eventually he realised Belos just keeps making grimwalkers to kill when they rebel like the previous did. Darius most likely didn't know Raine was also a rebel or knew they would do something reckless and why he charged the hunt to get to them. Same as Raine believing the other two were genuinely going to try and stop them and were for Belos. Odds are that Raine getting captured in this episode led to Darius and Eberwolf realising they're on the same side, probably after Kikimora captured them.
God this show deserved better. It was a crime to cut it early. Also, shows for younger audiences do have merit, yeah, but I think TOH could have been even better if it was allowed to be more serious and grown up, and had time to flesh out how the world worked. A lot of the show has a lot of goofiness wrapped up in it, which yeah it’s charming, but IMO, it could have been somehow even better if the world was more thoughtful and serious yk
If Darius would’ve died in this, Amity or Alador would be taking his place, maybe Amity due to Odalia’s control over her husband and she probably wouldn’t want to lose a valuable asset to Blight Industries. I just can’t imagine it, the emperor is a sick man.
I think there are two types of magic in the boiling isles: the magic that uses the magic from the bile sacs of the witches or the residual magical energy from the Titan. The show basically confirmed the glyphs that luz uses are taking the residual energy of the Titan to make the spell, but the bard magic is similar. It uses the magic in the area but is instead channeled through a witch with natural control or that magic (meaning it would be unavailable to humans). Eda’s magic from the curse eats up the magic around her which causes the “corruption” sort of effect which nullifies all the magic surrounding her and her own magic left inside her body

I'm a new watcher and I just watched this episode today, the fact that she literally tried to k*ll herself with her own curse and old lover by her side fvcked me up. It's always the most cheerful and carefree looking people suffering the most silently.

I never noticed the animation error as Raine exclaims "Eda, do you have kids?!". Eda and her instrument's outline are clipping over her hand

This scene always makes me have chills, its easily one of my fav moments in TOH, this scene made me fall in love with their relationship, and raine's character in general, they are already one of my fav characters because of how well they are written and implemented with the story.

Looking back, the line of 1:29 “they both have real families to return to” wasn’t even completely true. Kings dad is dead and has been for quite a while, and luzs dad died when she was young. Eda was ready to die believing that they didn’t need her and could go back to complete families, and that wasn’t true for either of them. Makes this even more depressing in hindsight :(

I find it very ironic they did this spell and were gonna kill the other 2 leaders who were trying to stop the day of unity.
It’s interesting watching this now that we know that Darius and Eberwolf are working against belos. If this plan went through, the result would probably be worse than we thought. With no other coven heads against Belos, he may have found different witches (Alador?) to take the place of the coven heads before the day of unity and without Eda and the other coven heads, it would just be up to the rest of the owl house and luz’s friends to beat belos

classic plot of the photo that conveniently show up to change peoples mind XD but it's good because Rain plan was ill conceived. even if they did managed to delay the day of unity by killing covens leaders, Belos would just have to wait for another occasion.

What made Darius and Eberwolf(or however you spell it) team up with Raine?? Like, them and Eda were about to commit double-die + self-die. That's a pretty heavy thing to forgive and forget.
Eda spell corrupted any form of magic. She corrupted any mind control magic
I briefly wondered about these parts when we see Darius and Eberwolf are also against the Emperor, but realised it could have been that neither knew the other were against Belos. We could imply Darius has been against it for a long time as the previous golden guard was his mentor and eventually he realised Belos just keeps making grimwalkers to kill when they rebel like the previous did. Darius most likely didn't know Raine was also a rebel or knew they would do something reckless and why he charged the hunt to get to them. Same as Raine believing the other two were genuinely going to try and stop them and were for Belos. Odds are that Raine getting captured in this episode led to Darius and Eberwolf realising they're on the same side, probably after Kikimora captured them.
My theory is that they were already against belos,after he captured raine he was like "bro I'm a rebel too let's team up"

God this show deserved better. It was a crime to cut it early.
Also, shows for younger audiences do have merit, yeah, but I think TOH could have been even better if it was allowed to be more serious and grown up, and had time to flesh out how the world worked. A lot of the show has a lot of goofiness wrapped up in it, which yeah it’s charming, but IMO, it could have been somehow even better if the world was more thoughtful and serious yk

If Darius would’ve died in this, Amity or Alador would be taking his place, maybe Amity due to Odalia’s control over her husband and she probably wouldn’t want to lose a valuable asset to Blight Industries.

I think there are two types of magic in the boiling isles: the magic that uses the magic from the bile sacs of the witches or the residual magical energy from the Titan. The show basically confirmed the glyphs that luz uses are taking the residual energy of the Titan to make the spell, but the bard magic is similar. It uses the magic in the area but is instead channeled through a witch with natural control or that magic (meaning it would be unavailable to humans). Eda’s magic from the curse eats up the magic around her which causes the “corruption” sort of effect which nullifies all the magic surrounding her and her own magic left inside her body
I'm sure we'll hear this again in the finale.
Raine helped EDA not committing the same mistake she did with them and helped her to not abandone her childs

She's basically seen as a wanted criminal in the first season because she refused to join a coven. She doesn't want to join a coven because that would limit her magic (Ex: Joining the Illusion coven would mean only being able to make illusions).
It feels like the environment glowing represented the area of effect measured by how far the sound of the music carried
Who wants to get more depressed today :D? In season 2 (in clouds over the horizon i think?) it was revealed that belos could get replacements for the coven heads when necessary so eda and raine would’ve sacrificed themselves for nothing if they suceeded and luz and king would be left on their own

I'm a new watcher and I just watched this episode today, the fact that she literally tried to k*ll herself with her own curse and old lover by her side fvcked me up. It's always the most cheerful and carefree looking people suffering the most silently.

Weren't Luz and King riding him at the time? Eda summoning him would've pulled them into danger, which is the last thing she wants.
