    Applicators
    100 Sponge Blenders amzn.to/3FEPTu4
    Sofft Sponge Applicator amzn.to/3L0GQV6
    800 pointed cotton swabs amzn.to/3M0IY0E
    Recipe
    1 tsp Linseed oil
1 TBSP Mineral Oil (Baby Oil)
1 and a 1/4 tsp Beeswax melted (This is a change from the 1 TBSP)
    1 Stick Oil Pastel
2 tsp mica powder. You can adjust this if you want to decrease the pigment. Add a drop more Beeswax if you do. Use less if that becomes the desired outcome. This part is subjective.
    Directions
    Step 1.
Chop up the oil pastel into very small chunks (Mince)
    Step 2
Mix in the Mineral Oil and Linseed Oil into the Oil Pastel. Mix in mica powder. Let it stand for at least an hour to 3 hours while mixing occasionally. You can't over mix. You can leave it longer than an hour. I have let it sit for a full day. It won't go bad. If it gets dry, just add a few extra drops of mineral oil. It should look like a liquid paste. Thinner than toothpaste, thicker than water.
    Step 3
Heat up about an inch of water to a boil. Using the bottom of a tin can (I use a soda can). You can use aluminum muffin tins too. Place the mix into the can and then the can into the water. It will float and create a double boiler. Do not heat the mix directly on a flame. Put the heat down so the mix stays warm to slightly hot. Do not boil the mix. It should not be hot enough to burn you if spilled. This is a project for adults. Children need supervision. Make sure you use adequate ventilation. Do not cook the mix. Melt slowly and gently. Do not leave the pot alone while on the flame. It's no different from making candles. Use all the same precautions.
    Step 4
Melt down enough beeswax to add 2 tsps to each can. You can remelt and reuse the beeswax. Don't throw out the can.
    Step 5
Once the oil/pigment is melted down, take it out of the warm bath and mix. Mix around 3-4 minutes until it thickens. Once it thickens put it back in the bath and melt it down again. It should take around 60 seconds.
    Step 6
Remove the oil/pigment from the bath and add 1 and 1/4 tsp bees wax. Mix again until thicken begins. Put it back in the bath for around 60 seconds. Keep mixing. Remove from the water and pour into your container.
This is a very pigmented mix and will thicken slower than the pencil base paste. Do not pick it up. Leave it for around 15 minutes and then you let it cool down. It's ready to use in about an hour. It will be softer than the pencil base paste.

The fact that you answered my question about missing New York after watching this video makes me love you more! I'm always glad when you share about your personal life. I made such a connection with you when you and your hubs were in the nightmare last year. There are many who truly care for you and your family, and sees you as a friend/sister and not only a teacher. You're all of those to me. (Yeah I'm a soft hearted sap, I know.) Thank you so much for the update! Love and healing blessings to you and yours! 😘

It is a fact, written in stone somewhere, that no matter how much room you have…there is never enough! When my craft room is clean I just sit and look at it. I can’t be creative until I get going with a mess! I think we nurses have a definite “divide” in the brain…creative Vs the nursing process side where we have to be logical and organized. Sometimes the two sides do clash! I think the guilt we fell because our craft areas need to be more organized comes from the nursing side that craves a plan and a logical path. Let it go! Easier said than done! Good luck with Howie, my hubby had the saphenous veins stripped and it made a huge difference!

Lori, my crafting desk has always been a mess. I am scrapbooker, card maker and now colorist thanks to you!. I would always start with a clean desk and then wind up working in a 6 in square as everything would crowd into my spot. Obviously we aren’t the only ones with that problem. I have been following Tim Holtz for over 20 years and have bought many of his products. He has this issue too and came out with the media mat. That has helped me immensely. It’s raised so my stuff stays around the perimeter and all the stuff he sells from alcohol inks, glues, pastes, archival inks, etc all wipe up with alcohol or hand sanitizer. Works great!

"functional" is a relative word"= ) my brain works just like yours and wish I knew and embraced this when I was younger because I always thought there was something wrong with me, but as an adult I got tested and learned both my personality and thought process accounts for less than 5% of the population. This is a gift from God, not a problem and the last part of my life I am going to celebrate it and honor this gift. Since I operate so much on the right side of my brain, though, I have found my left side works so much better, for example I taught math and science years. I can't wait for you to get your stuff on the market Lori, I will be first in line as I always am to support your endeavors. While I have had fun experimenting I do not enjoy it like you do, though I have worked really hard to get the jewels, pastels and skin tone sets right because using them with markers is a key selling point. I just want to use what works and gets me down the road ;), I have so many books to finish before my life ends and this will help so much. Much love to you and know my heart and prayers are with you and the hubby...

Keeping you n your family in my prayers. Lymphedema is no joke. In 2008 my Mom had Cancer. I was so concerned about her I ignored myself. My left calf got to 46 inches around. To the point I couldn't wear pants or undies cause it was so large. I was literally dragging my left leg when trying to walk. Anyway 5 days after my Mom had exploritory surgery that determined she had days not weeks to survive I collapsed. I was rushed to hospital. Put in the room she had been in the day before because Mom had gone home to my sister's house. I was hours away from complete heart failure. I was then diagnosed with congestive heart failure. 10 days in hospital. Infections cellulitis and MRSA on top of the lymphedema had me on Vancomycin. It literally killed my veins. They wound up putting a PIC line in. I came home from hospital on Vanc with IV line still attached so my daughter could give me vanc at home for another 2 weeks. So if you have chronically swollen body parts get them checked out ASAP. Don't ignore it. And the Drs were wrong about Mom. We had 6 months to say goodbye.

We are raising our 5yo grandson after his Mom and our beloved daughter died in April. It's been a tough around here, and my time to do crafting has been severely limited. Things are beginning to level out now, and we're moving onward. The news about Howie's diagnosis and upcoming surgery is very good. I'll keep that in my prayers. It's amazing the detail you're going to in creating your base pastes for the different media. About your Wonderful Base Paste, it is a very big deal that you formulated each color so successfully. It is indeed something that a art supply manufacturer would and should pay you very well for. Sending healing vibes to your husband as well as you and yours! Covid blows. My mom had it when it 1st broke out and we didn't even know it was covid yet. We thought she was going to die because she couldn't breathe but she made it through. My grandma and I caught it after her. Gma was hardly struck by it meanwhile my covid resulted in loss (and lag) of taste/smell and severe and scary chest and lung spasms. It was WILD. Meanwhile my bro never got it (thankfully)! Lol

We are all over the Covid. I have a drop of a residual cough but that's it. Oh I forgot about the loss of taste/smell. I had that this time and I am so glad it didn't last. Everything tasted like tin. It was horrible and I couldn't smell anything at all. My Daughter had it the mildest. If I didn't have a test kit available she never would have known. She had a fever and stuffy nose for one day. That was it. I only tested her because we had it, but she didn't get it from us. She got it from her friend, who had it really bad. At the time they didn't know. It was going around her work place.

It has a very slight lemon / lavender scent that doesn't transmit to the paper, but you can smell it if you stick your nose in the pot. I am using a blend of oils that include lavender and I added a drop of the lemon to mellow it out.

My sister is a neat freak. I am the not neat artist. There is conflict, but she doesn't understand me, and I can't be like her. We sortof compromise? But she is perpetually growling because the only way I can be neat enough to suit her is to give up all hobbies, and that's not going to happen in my lifetime.

I had no idea about your situation. It is good to hear that he is on the mend, I am glad to hear that. With that difference in pigments in mind I held off on mixing anything because of being very well aware of it and thought that there would have to be changes, some are heavier molecules than others and some aren’t naturally attracted to certain substances. Well I guess all the chemistry and microbiology classes helped there but also just using different media and being familiar with how certain pigments behave shows up. So I am happy for you. Seems like a big jar of white will be a big seller and or buff titanium to allow for lightening up colors and maybe that would help keep a refined palette. With the amount of time your hubby and family have been ill, it sure wouldn’t bother me to ask for plenty of extra 4x4s to wipe the excess base paste. Yeesh. My desk is a disaster too and it’s just the way I like it until my next project. Best wishes for your family and upcoming products, passing along good vibes.

Go slow and test things so you know how you like it. Keep a log and adjust it as you like it. Too hard, add more mineral oil, too soft add more bees wax. Add the bees wax slowly because the paste will go from mush to perfect really quickly. Too much wax and it gets hard like a crayon.

The darkest blacks Ive seen, have come from Charcoal. Might try adding charcoal powder into the mix, to see if that would increase the darkness.
A thing to consider about the sizes of products, is that certain colors are used more than others. For example, White, Black, and probably the Blender... would likely get more use, and would be better sold in larger container amounts.

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety

Yes about the larger size for the white black and blender. I will have that option. As for the black, I am using mars black and Iron Oxide as of now. I don't want to get too dark or the color will flatten things out. I may do a black and a super black and add another pigment called black 3.0. Well it's made by the same company but it could be 2.0 in the dry pigment form. It's expensive but it is BLACK! Lucky you only need a little.

Maybe you have already done this, but check with a patent lawyer because some one else could copy your formula, patent it and prohibit you from selling it. Or someone could accuse you of stealing their formula😳 Maybe it is unlikely but unscrupulous people could sue you and stop you until it gets resolved in court etc. and not necessarily in your favor. Just hope you are seeking advice. Keeping you and especially your hubby in prayer. 💞
