Have you already sold it? If not how much you looking on getting for it. I'm up in Virginia with 25 acre chicken farm. That little thing would come in handy.
My bet is that you have an air leak in the fuel limes
Multipurpose for the plastic fins on the air filter: 1. Ensures and maintains filter alignment. {Filter only goes in ONE WAY) 2. Swirls the air for an even flow of particle disbursement or even buildup of dirt & debris. The vortex is supposed to make the heavier larger particles get caught in the metal cup. 3. The vortex also helps the air flow smoother & efficiently.
I know this is an old video, but I just found it. Because you like tractors and wear a magpul cap , you get 1000 thumbs up. You don’t know how truly American this video is that you made !! Guns and tractors makes you a great patriot !!
I have always heard that if a diesel tractor is going to sit for any amount of time, you should fill the tank to prevent condensation inside the tank. This mostly applies in the spring or in the fall with the temp changes in the evening and in the morning. Also keeps the inside of the tank from getting rusty. Looks like a nice little tractor. Are you sure you don't want to keep it around? Looks like it could be a handy little machine.
A couple of things I've learned on my JD750, the fuel cap has a round plastic lens over the fuel gauge. If it is cracked or missing, rain water gets funnelled straight into the tank through the cap.
It helps if you use a fuel additive that is a demulsifier, I use Stanadyne performance formula. This makes any water drop out of the diesel so the water separator can do it's job better. Some additives, especially ones with alcohol, just emulsify the water into the fuel and run it through the injectors and pump. Not ideal!
Also the transmission has an internal screen to clean out, I believe it's on the left side and comes out with three bolts. Mine doesn't have power steering and the internal screen is the only hydraulic filter, I think the spin on filter was usually an add-on that went along with the power steering kit.
Another thing for the maintenance checklist, there's a screen in front of the radiator that slides out from the right side with the hood up. It can get clogged pretty quickly if you mow a lot of dry grass/weeds. Just pull it out and hose it off.
And I don't know about that enormous fuel filter someone put on there.. The factory filter is also a water separator and works fine for me, plus it has a clear bowl so you can see when there's water in the bottom. They can be replaced for about $10.
Sorry, I got long winded! The one I own has been in the family since new and they are very durable machines.

Those fan blades on the air filter are to get the air spinning to separate the larger debris from the smaller ones and deposit it through the little exit pipe on the end right before the rubber intake hose facing the front of the tractor. And your actually missing part of it, in the small engine mechanic field we call it a “duck bill” but it’s actually called a “dust injector valve” It’s a grey pointy rubber thingy with a split in it kinda resembling a duck bill.
The fins on the filter are there to create a vortex that makes the air spin and sling the dust against the wall of the air cleaner so it can be caught in the rubber cup at the other end of the filter housing so it can fall out as it relaxes.

If you take a piece of metal screening and place it over you bucket with a touch of sag and if you drop the plug it will only go as far as the screen. Just a small hint for you.
I use hardware cloth and make a shelf about 3 to 4 inches down from the top of the bucket to catch drainplugs if needed and to drain filters . . .

just for future reference if you have to leave fuel in a tank over an extended period of time i add Prist D to help with fuel contaminants. Filling a tank with fuel when parked keeps condensation at a minimum in cold weather.
I really respect ypur approach to putting what you sell into top condition. Helps that you enjoy what you are doing.
Btw if you refill your feul filters or oil filters always fill from the center because the filters work from the centre hole first and goes through the filter and back out the small holes unless you use clean feul thats allready been filtered..
I just did a full service on a 4wd 750 on Friday 😂 good old machine. Over 5200 hours.
Hello Josh I used to own a J.D. 650 4x4 it was a slick running little tractor. I think you might have air in your fuel injectors. What I did was crack open the 1/4" tubing bolts going into the 3 injectors and crank the engine starter to bleed the system.
Only reason I got rid of mine was I'm like you 6'2" and I got big feet. There just wasn't enough leg and foot room on the tractor's floor pan. Neat little tractor though. 👍👍👍 I'm confident that you will get it going.
You need a magnet on a stick! Makes quick work of recovering a oil bolt. :)
The fins on the air filter just make the air "swirl" as it comes in through the filter,to make sure it doesn't load one part of the filter with dust more than other parts. Also,just like water rund down a drain faster if it swirls than if it goes into the drain straight on.

When a tractor, car or any other vehicle is parked for a long time, the tank should always be filled to the top and add a fuel preservative to prevent rust and water intrusion.
august with diesel u don’t, my dad side of the family deult with diesel machines for a long time and some sat and started up and the diesel was fine, gas is a different story
yep they were all filled to the top...and most tractors now have the good old plastic tanks....but he should have put a fuel additive to keep it from gelling up...you'll see what the problem is in fridays vlog..or saturday
Starting up is one thing....running for 6 hours is another...today's diesel fuel isn't like yesterdays....it's just not as long lasting or as good...I'll show ya what was wrong in the next vlog or two....we just had a huge flood on the farm!!

Stoney Ridge Farmer Dang I am so sorry to hear about the flooding, I said a prayer that it was only land that got wet. Back in the floods of September 1986, my now ex wife went into labor and I was with her for 36 hours before I was able to run back to the house to check on our property only to find that we had 5 foot of water in our living room. My 1st child was born on the same day my wife and I lost everything we had including all the brand new baby stuff from the baby showers and everything we bought to be ready when it was time. This was back when a new mom generally stayed for 3 days in the hospital after child birth.
Well our house wasn't livable and I had basically a day n a half to figure out what I could do fortunately the water receded as fast as it came up, with the help of family, friends, our insurance man, complete strangers and the hospital making excuses to keep my wife and baby for 4 extra days so our health insurance would pay the hospital bill we had our house dried out insulated and drywalled and all of the electrical, heating and Air conditioning systems got done inspected and approved for occupancy before I had to bring my wife and new baby home the only room in the house it was completely done including the paint baby decorations was the nursery the rest of the entire house needed the drywall seaming and paint, the floor coverings and tons of things that didn't matter if they were done in order to live still had to be completed but all the materials needed were in the garage or there was a coupon given to me to go pick up when we were ready for them.
I have no idea who organized the effort or who paid or donated what because 99% of it was done while I spent time at the hospital or I was at work. Yep I had to go back to work the second day after my son arrived or lose my job and because I had only worked there for about 4.5 months I had no vacation time and this was 20+ years before the family leave act was even a thought.
My family and wifes family couldn't afford to have done all that in that short of time and they refuse to tell us who did what because whomever they were asked not to be revealed. It has been over 30 years my ex inlaws are gone now but they never said a word, my parents are still with us and when I ask about it neither can remember a thing!! The only thing my mom & dad have ever said is, when you see someone in need and you can help, remember back when you lost everything and pay it back by digging as deep as you can and help the next person. I have never forgotten that and even though we don't have much money because of my disability, what I do have is time and I my not be fast anymore I have knowledge and know how to fix things, so What I can do physically I walk people through how too do it. A paint marker works great for dating stuff too. Comes off with brake clean if needed

Sharpe and paint pens work great for date and hour meter, black Sharpe on the air filter and it's protected from getting power washed off the outside. A magnet works wonders for getting drain plug out of the bucket.
I like the paint pen idea...but those darn paint pens dont last...the label lasts for several years. I dont make to much of a habbit of a hard pressure wash on my equipment...can damage it for sure
Man, we have the little brother (650) to that one! I had to replace the rear transmission casting last year when it got busted by a PTO shaft. Looks like you've got a good one there, and someone will get a great tractor.

There at the end it sounds like you have some air in the fuel lines. You’ll need to bleed them at the injectors. Loosen the nut on one injector at a time and turn on the tractor without starting it. Retighten when you stop seeing air bubbles. Should run smooth after that.
He forgot to refuel it!
Suggestion to keep from dropping stuff into your "yuck bucket". Get a big wire strainer or colander, like you would use in the kitchen. Put it across the bucket under where you are working. If you drop the nut or clamp, the strainer should catch it.

If you don't want to put a sticky label outside, just write it on the filter with permanent marker. You'll have to open the can to check the date but it's there.
It makes the incomeing air spin around the air filter to evenly filter that air. My 1963 Jacobsen 800 Chief garden tractor has the same filter.
Those telescoping magnets are great for getting drain plugs out of the waste oil bucket
That hose clamp that fell in the oil bucket will be the last piece to rust! haha! Great video!
Rotate your 5 gallon bucket 180 degrees when pouring from those lids the air is at the top of the buckets they pour much better.
I would call those things on the air filter "vanes". They look like vanes on a turbine. I would guess that they make the air swirl around the filter as it goes in. That would make bigger stuff fling against the housing, and I guess it would make the bigger stuff go all the way to the end of the filter and be caught there. I'm not sure what advantage there is to that, but it may keep the filter from clogging longer.
A handy dandy tool to have is a a small strong magnet on a rod. Great for getting dropped nuts and bolts out of muck.
That vise-grip crescent wrench (2 copyright names!) looks great. Les worry about rounding off the hex.

3:38 the fins cause the air to spin and the centrifugal force tosses large dust particles away from the filter to be collected in a pocket somewhere within the housing keeping your filter cleaner longer.
Fresh fluids, though expensive, are dirt cheap vs repairs and failure. Great job, video
Fins are to swirl the air and throw the dirt to the outside, I would bet there is some where for the dirt to fall out of the filter housing and onto the ground.
12:44 filling it is the best choice, every day ad the air warms and cools air moves in and our of any fuel tank, if there is moisture in the air it will condense and build up water in the tank, especially in a moist environment. In addition diesel can absorb water, but as the temperature changes some of the water can drop out of suspension causing buildup over time.
And sometimes you just have a leak...
You do know Josh that you can blow them filters out with an air hose, you have to blow it from the inside out. Just make your self a long pice of coper tube for a extension on the end of your spray nozzle, and drill some small holes around it, and now you can blow all your filters out from the inside out. We do it all the time on all our city equipment. That way your not buying filters all the time. You don't have to buy air filters until you see day light through them from the inside looking out. Hope this helps. You could do a video making the end of your spray nozzle. Just thought I could help you save money. God Bless you and miss stoney ridge.

im sure someone already said this but the flutes are to spin the air around the filter so the engine can suck the air in evenly kind of creating a vortex
try using hardware screening over drain bucket for flying parts and pour fluids into a container that is inside another larger container keeps oil off the cement

Definitely a good starter tractor, good price too. If we were ready to start up our farm I would be on my way down to pick it up cash in hand. Even tough we are looking at 15-25 acres it would still be a great starter. Can’t wait to wait to watch part 2. Maybe something to do with the new fuel filter? You have power, eliminates battery. My money is on the fuel filter.
The fins make the air swirl and works like a centrifuge so the larger particles hit the filter housing and all out rather than clogging up the filter material. My wife has a little 38 HP JD.
I hate it when the tires get old and start cracking and stuff. I have a tractor that my dad put new rear tires on in 1960. The tread is still good but the cords are breaking. I guess we will have to put new tires in it in a couple of years.

VileStorms trust me I know. Just had to replace fuel hose on an JD 5045. I bleed the hose the best I could. Still took awhile to get it started!
The fins on the air filter are a kin to the gmc/ Chevy vortex intake system idea it creates a very slight spin to the air which allows more air into the cylinders which always for more fuel which means more power it also helps to sling dirt and dust into the filter walls husqvarna has a similar thing on their two stroke engines it means you don't have to change the filters quite as much

I suspect those vanes are either to create a cylindrical flow of the air coming in are to increase the intake length without needing the extra intake tube length.

For the gear boxes on your bush hogs I fill mine with a really high quality grease not oil...if you pack enough in the gear box they will run colder than just gear oil. I have a bush hog with 2 gear boxes and after a day of cutting I can touch the one with grease but the one with regular spec gear oil is too hot to touch...just a tip to try out for the future haha
Tip: mix 1/2 gear oil and 1/2 grease in your brush cutter gearboxes and they will last virtually forever.
I had john deere 3130 and it was very good tractor great for silage bales but then she went on fire then i bought a case 1190 and fiat 780 two great machines

The fins swirl the air to catch large dirt in the end cap that I didn't see you take apart and clean out.
A paint pen is better than a label maker for marking your filters, etc.
This looks like a job for Steve Cox. Fins on air filter to help create a vortex for better air flow.
I believe the reasoning behind filling metal fuel tanks completely full for storage is to keep the humidity from rusting the tank from the inside out... I know gasoline absorbs water due to the ethanol content but I don’t believe regular or farm fuel diesel contains ethanol unless you purchased E-Diesel which has 15 percent ethanol. Now I’m not sure about this completely because I didn’t research anything. Lol

U change oil when it needs changing, do not go by hrs or miles.check oil before u put to work
you need an old telescopic aerial with a magnet on the end......to retrieve the plugs dropped in the oil :-)

I think on that tractor you have to bleed the air out of the fuel system once you chang the filter.
When poring out of a 5 galon bucket, keep the hole to the top & it won't glug on you.

Check your fuel filter.. sounds like it is not getting enough fuel... either that or something really broke and timing is off.. Probably fuel though. BTW that engine is the same one used in today's 2018 compacts.. I have the 1023e in fact. Identical motor. I guess when something works well you don't change it all these years.. Good motors.

As luck would have it my tractor's oil filter is stuck - I broke right through one of those rubber strap wrench thingamabobs. Mind shooting a frustrated dude the universal oil filter wrench you like? I don't see it listed above. Love your channel man, keep it up. Started watching Wranglerstar years back and now enjoying yours. Helps make my "work from home" gig alil more awesome till I can get outside. Wooo!
Chris...take an old scredriver and drive it through the side of the oil filter..then just break it free and get it off

sounds like fuel delivery issue check the clamp on the fuel separator or the o ring surface unless you need new fuel in tank. Then add fuel and prime the system.

My Lawn tractor TROY BILT PONY only runs in 3-4 gears it just came back from the shop throttle stalls at full open rear axle has high pitch whining sound what do you think is going on

The tractor was made by Yanmar btw. On the hydraulic/tranny fluid change you did not remove and clean the filter screen. It is located just behind and toward the left side behind the drain plug. It is covered by a vertical 3 or 4 bolt flange.
On engine dying: if you added fuel to the tank look for an obstruction within the tank: I've found grass,dirt,crud,even a red shop rag in fuel tanks on project tractors I've brought in for repair.
If tank is clean and has fuel in it then you have an issue with the injection pump.$$$$$ to fix that.Hoye Tractor (they have a web site) can offer further guidance. Good people.

Another thought: I have 10 farm tractors and no I'm not a hoarder or collector. I get them fairly cheap and fix them to full functional condition: paint doesn't mean a thing to me but rust prevention.Anyway,I've found that having an assortment of tractors makes life pretty easy as each tractor has its primary function: plow tractor,mow tractor,loader tractor etc. maybe the little JD would be a good keeper for the garden duties,pulling a trailer etc.
Is there a gasket behind the 3 bolt hydraulic filter flange?
@@dalestaska1807 can't remember but is is usually a gasket or "O" ring.

Keith Meyer burn it. There are lots of videos on youtube of waste oil burners. Usually people heat their garage with it when they have to work out there in the winter. Even the car dealerships burn it and charge you a "recycling fee"

I would guess a shut off valve, plugged fuel line or system needs bled. Easy enough to check.
