Hey Chaps! Would you choose 4K LED LCD or 3.5K OLED?? 🤔
UPDATE 1: I re-tested RS6 Siege without DLSS (2% gain), but WITH DLSS it's a 23% boost (139 vs 171 FPS)!
UPDATE 2: For the FastHosts question, it should have been "Inventor of the World Wide Web" 👍
oled version for sure
Anything for OLED
OLED for moi, nice review 😉👌
OLED for sure
Question for everyone, why OLED over the 4K? I was just talking to Dell and they recommended the 4K
I come from the year 3044, we already colonized Mars and Jupiter, people live 350 years on average, the monitors are 8000k and the laptop webcams are still with 720p
LMFAO
Nothing from with 720p - especially for streaming. But it's the sensor size and white balance that needs to be better
Please send me a one way ticket 😭
Laptop Webcams are bad because the camera goes through the USB bus to connect to the CPU, unlike an ARM device like a Tablet or M1 MacBook that have cameras directly connected to the SoC for real time video and image processing. So the solution is for chip makers to make room for a dedicated PCIe connection to the webcam, so that manufacturers can source good webcam parts and not waste their potential.

That Windows 11 wallpaper makes everything look fresh and new. I like it.
It really does! 👌
Even though its running Windows ten
@@sanjaydeovrat kek, this. Literally a windows 10 service pack with a skin.
@@Thetechchap But the windows power button at corner reveals everything
Yep it look like a new window
Can we just appreciate how nice the white looks
Yeah until a year or two passes and turns greyish
@@vladdx wow, really?
Has that happened to you?
@@iagree7388 Not to me personally, but I've seen other people's white laptops
I was actually able to get the base model of the 9510 with an 86WHr battery, it required me reaching out to dell's sales support but they were incredibly helpful, and noted that the inability to upgrade to the 86whr on the base model is a website error.
This guy is nailing every single time, what a legend!!! Good luck buddy. I am with Inspiron, might upgrade for the 17 inch display, I think it will be even better than my 15.6 display.
For those of you guys planning on buying the Dell XPS 15, I'll give you my experience over the past 5 months of using this laptop.
I needed a new laptop to study mechanical engineering in university. I was deciding between the Macbook Pro with the M1 chip or the Dell XPS 15. But after reading and watching hundreds of reviews online about how XPS 15 and Mac are basically the same, XPS is better for gaming, and how Mac is bad for ME, I decided to get the Dell XPS 15 in March.
PROS.
- The laptop arrived three weeks after I ordered it-- It was estimated to take 5 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived two weeks early.
- The keys are extremely satisfying to press--which allowed me to get a lot of work done simply because I was addicted to tapping the keys.
- The screen is very wide and filling--allows you to focus on everything you are working on.
- Battery life--I could watch twitch streams for 6 hours straight and the laptop would still have around 55~60% (from 100%).
- Dongle. USB and HDMI dongle included with the laptop.
CONS.
- The trackpad. Every time I left-click using the trackpad, it feels as though the bottom of the trackpad is getting stuck to some type of glue and once I lift my finger off the trackpad, the trackpad lifts off the glue and leaves this distasteful sound. I found this problem straight from when I unboxed the laptop.
- 2 weeks after purchasing the XPS 15, the screen started having issues. If you divide the screen into 4 sections, the bottom right side has a constant noticeable flickering. I tried doing everything to fix it but it just wouldn't go away. Every single time the laptop goes into sleep mode or I shut it off and reboot it, this same problem persists. After awhile, I simply gave up and started ignoring the flickering. (Only thing I have noticed that helps is plugging in the charger and using the device for one or two hours and the flickering gradually fades away.)
- Screen freezes every now and then. This has occurred around once a week for every week since March--when I first got the XPS 15.
- In-built camera. Very crummy resolution.
- Ports+dongles. There is a high-pitched whirring sound that does not go away if a dongle is plugged in.
This problem does not persist if there is no dongle. However, as a ME student and gamer, I almost always use a mouse that is connected to the laptop.
- Speakers/sound system produce momentary static if I use them for the first time of the day.
-Customer service. Basically inexistent. I moved to a different country (for university) after buying the laptop, and Dell told me that I couldn't get any help if I wasn't in the country it was delivered to. Even with the warranty, I am basically guaranteed nothing.
- League of Legends Gaming. The bottom half of the entire screen lags hard. It wasn't there for the first couple of weeks, but after 1 month, the entire bottom half of the screen momentarily freezes and unfreezes--constantly throughout the game. This persists until I connect the charger.
Overall, I would say the majority of problems I have had with the computer is hardware related.
Considering the price of the Dell XPS 15, I would trade it in for a Macbook Pro in a heartbeat and invest a bit more money in a company that has a much more reliable product and will actually help in solving problems related to their products.
For its price, the XPS 15 is NOT WORTH. I expected a MUCH better device with close to no hardware problems.
I Literally went two times higher than my dedicated budget and spent almost 2 years of savings (around $2400 with tax+extra for shipping) for this laptop.
For students who are on a budget--like I was--, I would recommend a Samsung device. Before the XPS 15, I used the Samsung notebook 9 (~$1,200) for 6 years. Games (Wizard101, League of Legends, Fortnite) worked perfectly on my Samsung device for all 6 years. All the workload that my Dell seems to be unable to handle worked unbelievably smoothly on my Samsung device.
Good luck choosing a device everyone.
Can't game on a Mac
Thank you
This Arctic White version of the XPS 15 is so frickin gorgeous
You realllly make me want to try one and review it... Great review man. Lovely shots btw!
Can you do a review on it ? Same model
Would you say this is suitable for a C's student ???
Thanks for familiarising us with the different screen types, I was really confused😊😊
I love that display. So sick with small bessels.

Love your reviews - plus your new house setup looks awesome! Will consider one of these laptops for sure!
I've had my eye on the Dell XPS for a number of years now, love it!
Had the 9500, but beware that the build quality is below par. My machine had way too much flex in both keyboard and screen, the USB-C charging plug was wobbly and the machine had the fans going constantly even if there was no load on the machine. Would never buy XPS again unless they adress a lot of the quality issues these machines have. One large plus is the display to body ratio on the screen, most other manufacturers should adopt this.
@@happydaydreamer1 thanks for the info.
never get it, you'll regret your life for it. this sucker is a scam
@@happydaydreamer1 i had all those problems and MORE. Its almost un-useable currently because it keeps turning off by itself. As soon as my warranty expired. I regret it so much.

Looking forward to your XPS 17 review, Tom!
Very great review of the 15 btw!
This laptop is freaking beautiful!
Also thanks for the review ;)
I love the XPS laptops. I got last years 13” model with the i7-1065G7 and was impressed with the build quality, the aluminum with carbon fiber finish is amazing, and the battery life is crazy!
Is it that amazing? I might get it
@@melo3427 yeah, but if you can get the 11th gen for around the same price get that because they’re much improved. I wouldn’t pay more than $800 for this model.

Love the dining table Tom
Haha cheers! Needs a bit more colour in the room. The house/studio still a work in progress!
@@Thetechchap I like that open dining room set. Its also nice that you aren't doing the stock standard walnut desk
Solid review, as usual. This is definitely a nice laptop but for the price you’re paying, the webcam should be good. The sound quality, and not the resolution, is the biggest insult. That is just pure laziness on Dell’s part and unacceptable.
Excellent bas always! Thank you from Texas!
Was waiting for this review for a while now!!
This laptop looks amazing. We have pretty limited options for the XPS lineup in our country which sucks.
I just bought the 9310 13 inch and this is arguably the best ultrabook available. Sure battery life isn't as great as the M1s but you have to be willing to sacrifice battery life for a 4k screen. It's really all about what you want, almost $2k for mine with 16gb of ram but I'm happy af with this purchase. Was very close to getting the surface laptop 4 but the bezels are something out of 1987.
As a person with a 11 year old laptop I am jealous xd

Full review on the UX482 and UX582 soon? Love the vid
These are so tempting. I think I’ll hold on to my 2018 for now, but those screens look so good.
Did you ever had freezing issues, mate ? I have the same model and it has this problem with freezing, a couple of times a day, I will have a replacement next week with the 2020 model and I hope it will be better but..I saw a lot of the same comments on their page.
I just got it! Thanks, great video.
I love the color and editing of ur videos.
U should teach a course.
I didn't know that only XPS 15 9510 would have the OLED screen! I am still leaning on the 9710, can't wait till your review!

@@Thetechchap apparently narcissism gets you 8 likes lol
I am still using 2nd Gen XPS 15.
The Dell's website (in France) is a shame, the prices changes when you put it on your basket, a lot of options aren't available (touchscreen+white or even the OLED option doesn't appear anywhere)...sooo sad because it discourage me... And for your videos...as always...perfect !
It's like specs finally caught up with all the hype and it becomes an irresistible object if you can afford it.
Thank you it's a good and full review !
The OLED screen is just stunning about resolution, thin bezel and it's even touchable. 3050ti should help boosting in work scenarios, but for gaming, well it still can. I'm not satisficed with the keyboard side. It seems to flex easily and those arrow keys of half size are annoying.
This White XPS 15 is easily the most beautiful laptop in the world at the moment.
Outstanding laptop. Excellent review. Impressive OLED screen.
It looks beautiful! I hope you do a review on the 9710 too, though
Yep! Coming Monday
I will still stick to my 5 year old 1st gen XPS15. If they manage to offer a white 17" XPS with a good webcam, maybe even with QHD (yes, on 17"), I will probably buy one next year.
Hi Tom, this is Marcelo! I really enjoy your videos, professionalism and mostly your knowledge! Congrats and keep up!
The laptop that stays in my dreams FOREVER
Wow can't wait to see the 2022 dell xps 15& 17
2022 is the year of perfect tech :)
We were struck by typhoon Odette, hays how I wish I could work online and get one of this. Watching from the Philippines. Great video
Hey tech chap 👋🏻 Do you mind having a 60 hz refresh rate , particularly in this model ? I have a galaxy s21 ultra and so I really like 120 hz but for a laptop this size does it really matter for general use ? Thanks 🤠 awesome videos btw!
Hey Tom, will you show us windows 11 experience on such beautiful machines?! Please!!!
I'm really excited about this labtop NGL
I have the XPS 15 7590 and it has been an absolute nightmare! Screen flickering rendering unusable which was apparently a "known issues" with the XPS and I've also had to pay to replace easily broken parts even though I'm under warranty because it was "accidental" which isn't covered. Not going to be buying Dell again...
When the video is so smooth that you forgot that the screen is touchscreen 5:54
thank you! I've been trying to go back to windows after having macs for a while. This laptop is beautiful but I wasn't sure about the specs. TY
Hey does your laptop stay closed when u hold it upright from the back. I think this might be a QC issue with mine. It opens up when u hold it or put it in ur bag with the back hinge facing down
Unfortunately I can confirm some of the QC issues. Got my Dell XPS 9510 recently and had an issue with the fan out of the box.
Dell does however do an excellent job of troubleshooting and reporting on the users behalf, and I got a preboot message stating that one of my two main fans was indeed not functioning correctly, along with all the relevant info to give to the seller/dell repair shop.
I returned mine. Complete trash and overpriced. The track pad issues still persist.
Cant wait for the 17 " review.
Bought this for £1578 after Jujco discount, same specs as shown on this. Can't wait for it to arrive. Definitely a big upgrade from my 11 year old laptop 😂
Thank you for the awesome work!
Mine came with hing issue when you hold the laptop vertically tilt won’t stay closed but I’m not sure if it’s a defect or it supposed to be like that but not really a big issue for me. Try holding this one up let me know please
Just got Dell XPS 9510.... after watching this, I didn't regret it for sure, very expensive though
Just got one for $700 USD.
Can't wait to see how it holds up, needed a laptop for school etc.
Mine was a bit rough exterior wise, mainly the bottom. Ordered a replacement with rubber and I'll dBrand it up to cover any of the blemishes.
Pretty hype after watching this (1I7800H / 3050Ti / 16gb) version. Upgrading to 32gb RAM, just because its not expensive.
I think I'll keep my XPS 9560 for 5 more years and then I'll buy the new 9560 :).
For now, there are some dealbreakers for me - short battery life (6 hours are not acceptable for work), no USB-A (that will go away, but not today), no full-sized HDMI (even bigger problem than missing USB-A for now). Plus I don't really like hardware. I don't thing this generation of Intel CPUs will age very well (Alder Lake looks much better suited for laptops) and GPU is seriously lacking memory. And if I get to the "I wish" territory then 90+ Hz adaptive sync screen would be great.
I forget your channel I think when I watched your last video your subs was 490 k some thing but now 1.1million subs very much love from my side🔥❤🇱🇰🥰
His fan base has expanded. Congrats chap
Thanks for the video Tom
Hey techchap I follow your reviews quite often. Im missing some review of the new alien x15/17 R1 from Dell. It would be nice if you could provide a video with your thoughts
I bought me a dell xps 15 and I had a quality control issue with my trackpad. I contacted dell support and a dell tech came to my house to fix my trackpad! No more trackpad issues.
I also did a clean install of windows 10 to 11 and everything runs smooth! Highly rec that you do a clean install of windows 11.
I had 3 XPS 15 9500.
All 3 had a touchpad issue.
How are things going with this in the new version?
Of particular interest is the situation when you hold the laptop with one hand to the left or right of the touchpad. In the old version, the laptop flexed and buttons were pressed in this position.
I bought a Razer 14 3070 for school but damn this looks clean wish I would’ve waited.
Nice review. Subscribed. I just picked up the Dell XPS 15 9510 Silver/Black, 11th Gen i7-11800H processor, UHD+ (3840 x 2400) Touch 500-Nit Display, 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz Memory, 1 TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, and NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti GPU. It's a thing of beauty! So far, so good. Love it!
did you notice any issue that other people on internet talk about it? touchpad, doublekeystroke, fan, close lid issue etc. ?
@@damirduvnjak4462 None of those issues, at least not yet anyway.
@@damirduvnjak4462 I received my 9510 and I bought the most expensive build and I can confirm it's a piece of trash. I had all these issues plus the track pad being wobbly and making clicking noises. Don't waste your money on this. I returned mine next day.
XPS the legend lives on!
You can get the FHD with the 86w battery if you go in the work section of the dell store.
Thanks for the review. Just wondering is the webcam useable or not good all. I have a macbook pro 15 touchbar (bought 2018) and use mine work work and home use and do need a decent webcam.
You can get the larger battery with the 1200p screen, if you for the i7.
Which DLSS settings were used for the benchmarks?
Thanks
Finally able to get my hands on one & the issue is 3.5k is not 4k & if your a resolution junkie than even glorious OLED will not fully make up for it. I'm sure they had a good reason for not going full 4k but it's unfortunate. Xps laptops still have the best overall package than all other laptops in my opinion.
I still don't quite get the 4K option to be honest. I've got a 3K screen at home already (3840x1440) and sure, it looks a little bit nicer with its 125ppi compared to my 109ppi 1080p screen but it's not a difference I'd kill for. Of course, these are desktop monitors and you tend to sit closer to a laptop. Even then though, you can't distinguish pixels on a 15" 1080p display from 61cm away which is a pretty standard viewing distance. I'd love to see a 1440p option as that seems to be the sweet spot for better sharpness than 1080p and better battery life than 4K with potentially room being freed up for higher refresh rates in the power budget with can also help alleviate eye strain just like higher resolution.
I'm in need of new laptop and I'm definitely considering this one however I just wish it was tablet compatible
Thanks for a thorough review!
I’m just about to bye either a 15” or 17” model. When’s the XPS 9710 review coming up?
It looks like a green screen paste in like they do in the movies, not gonna lie pretty awesome
fastpost. just happy to be out early.
Amazing review 🔥🔥👍
XPS 9510 versus Razer 14 comparison would be great!
I have ordered this model with i7 3.5K oLED. I will basically be using it for content creation like editing 4k videos and lightroom. Will it throttle? As I live here in Australia there is no option to get 512 gb model and dont want to spend extra for 1 tb model for new 17 inch model. Is 15 worth it or should I consider 17 instead. PLEASE HELPPPPPPP.
Thanks for the review. How does the OLED compare to last years UHD+ IPS screen? Can't decide between the 2, will use it mostly for photo editing
What did you end up choosing?
I went with the UHD+ IPS screen, leaning towards the higher resolution and the perspective that 95% of people that might look at my photos will be looking on LCD, so may as well continue to do my editing on LCD. I have not had a chance to use the laptop yet, so don't know if my decision was the right one
@@fredbloggs523 did you receive it yet? I am facing the same dilemma. It seems the ips screen is still as color accurate (enough at least)
I have received it and am a little disappointed with the display. The lower right edge has a bright area and the overall display definitely has that lcd look about it. By that I mean there is a faint yellowish tint in the centre that moves around as you move your head and slight colour shifts at different angles. Not what I would expect from a high quality IPS panel. My 2014 Samsung ATIV 9 laptop really puts it to shame in that regard. I really would like to see it side by side with OLED to decide what I would prefer
@@fredbloggs523 Oh bummer. Regarding the battery life and light gaming, how is the pc holding up?
I might wait for the asus studiobook otherwise even though the release date is unsure.
I have a question. I'm looking for a laptop to do 1080p video editing for my CZcams channel. I use windows movie maker (yes, still have it 😁) It's easy. So, do I really need a dedicated graphic card or Intel iris xe with I7 and 16gb ram will be enough? Right now, I upload a 15 minutes 1080p video in 20 minutes with my desktop with I7 and older system from 2017. Thinking about buying the Samsung book pro with iris xe or Dell xps 15 with iris xe.. Or should I buy the GeForce rtx 3050?Thanks 👍
Really fantastic review.
Comparison video with Macbook Air and Pro maybe? For video editing 👀
Hi! Nice job! When you put it vertically, does the screen stay closed or a little open sometimes if you don't squeeze it on closing?
Mine remains open a bit. Dell says it's normal. But I don't agree. At this price point, I expect MBP-level quality.
Mine stays open too, I have it in clamshell mode on a stand and it opens up about 8mm gap as if it should have a little more magnet power. Although I do like how easy it opens with one finger when horizontal on a desk etc.... Add a magnet will create more force to overcome which will make it like most laptops so I guess there are pro and con to everthing
@@KenMrKLC I bought a 9500 and two 9510, and all three had the same behavior. I also have the previous model, which does not have the lid open but it is impossible to open it with one hand. So as you say, it has its advantages and disadvantages, it can be opened with one hand, and if you press the lower part of the hinges a little when closing, it is firmly closed.
Hey Tom I don’t know if you’ll see this but could you link your lock screen wallpaper?
Those speakers sound great. Since you have the 16 inches MacBook pro, how do they compare?
Just bought the OLED version with 16gb ram and the I7. Also has the 500gb SSD... paid $1480 Presidents day sale along with some coupons. What a deal.

True story, sent mine back. Brand new out of box issues. Garbage
Hi!!! Great video!! Do you know if it can handle H.265 10bit 4:2:2 for video editing?
Xps15 never again, I have 2017 version and I only have problems with this notebook - touchpad had to be replaced, not accurate colors (4K version), baterry had to be also replaced, now I am facing problems with slowing down of the procesor speed to 0,8GHz when gaming. Much better experience I have with latest Macbook Pro with m1.
I mean u are comparing a 2017 model xps to a 2021 macbook pro.Cant vouch for either though.
So true, the reviewers never talk about those problems. I had many issues with my xps15 4k in less than a month. Then I sold it and bought the macbook pro 15 (with the old keyboard). The macbook has now almost 4 years and had never a single problem.
They have a lot of quality control issues. I went for a MacBook Pro 15 too, at the time the XPS didn’t have a large touchpad, USB-C charging on both sides, or upward facing speakers or a 16:10 screen all of which I really like on the MacBook. They only got all of this in 2020 but 3 years too late for me lmao, I have gotten used to macOS now so it’s even easier for the M1 to tempt me as I don’t have to learn a new OS right now as well.
@@xxliu95 he did talk about it in the 2018 review, it’s one of the reasons I also went with the MacBook at the time. The 2021 model is improved so he has no reason to complain.
@@User-cb4jm But it was really sad. I spent almost 2500 euros in the xps. Never bought a computer this expensive before, and I was expecting something really reliable.
Would love to watch ur video on samsung tabs buying guide just like u did with the ipads looking forward to it
How is display response time when gaming? Is it bad in fps games and is there ghosting?
Is there a reason you would choose the I7 processor over the I9?
Also, is it worth it to get the 32 mb of RAM?
Appreciate your thoughts! Thanks
Hi! Great video. Does your unit has the "wobbly trackpad" issue? Really big issue on the XPS 9500 so I hope they fixed it on the 2021 version
Not on this - but on the 17" that just arrived yes
Does it have this performance out of the box or do laptops need drivers to be installed?
I thought Moss and Roy invented the internet? "Behold! The Internet!"
That's the secret correct answer!
I picked one of these up , Dropped 32GB ram $150 and a Gen 4 1 TB SSD PRO 980 samsung getting 7000 mbs read 5000 write and made it the operating system drive and the stock 1TB Samsung 3200mbs Read and Write drive for game and data storage. So I have a Premium 8 core 32gb ram 2tb storage almost 4k Oled touchscreen laptop with respectable battery life that can pretty much do anything I need on the desktop or portable. UI wise it cranks right up there with my M1 Macbook..... I go back and forth between them on my desktop just by moving USBC to Displayport cord between them to my 4k monitor and logitech mouse and keyboard I can switch back and forth in a second
I bought an XPS 15 for work two months ago. It showed up and had random keyboard presses messing with everything I did. The keyboard eventually stopped working which was good because I could use an external keyboard. I'm still waiting on my replacement....
Dell XPS ad. Perfect 😁
Picked one up for 2400 after tax.
64gb ram, i11, OLED, windows pro. Saved approx 900 off sticker. It was approx 1800 less than comparable MacBook
