    UPDATE 1: I re-tested RS6 Siege without DLSS (2% gain), but WITH DLSS it's a 23% boost (139 vs 171 FPS)!

Laptop Webcams are bad because the camera goes through the USB bus to connect to the CPU, unlike an ARM device like a Tablet or M1 MacBook that have cameras directly connected to the SoC for real time video and image processing. So the solution is for chip makers to make room for a dedicated PCIe connection to the webcam, so that manufacturers can source good webcam parts and not waste their potential.

I was actually able to get the base model of the 9510 with an 86WHr battery, it required me reaching out to dell's sales support but they were incredibly helpful, and noted that the inability to upgrade to the 86whr on the base model is a website error.

For those of you guys planning on buying the Dell XPS 15, I'll give you my experience over the past 5 months of using this laptop.
I needed a new laptop to study mechanical engineering in university. I was deciding between the Macbook Pro with the M1 chip or the Dell XPS 15. But after reading and watching hundreds of reviews online about how XPS 15 and Mac are basically the same, XPS is better for gaming, and how Mac is bad for ME, I decided to get the Dell XPS 15 in March.
    PROS.
    - The laptop arrived three weeks after I ordered it-- It was estimated to take 5 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived two weeks early.
    - The keys are extremely satisfying to press--which allowed me to get a lot of work done simply because I was addicted to tapping the keys.
    - The screen is very wide and filling--allows you to focus on everything you are working on.
    - Battery life--I could watch twitch streams for 6 hours straight and the laptop would still have around 55~60% (from 100%).
    - Dongle. USB and HDMI dongle included with the laptop.
    CONS.
    - The trackpad. Every time I left-click using the trackpad, it feels as though the bottom of the trackpad is getting stuck to some type of glue and once I lift my finger off the trackpad, the trackpad lifts off the glue and leaves this distasteful sound. I found this problem straight from when I unboxed the laptop.
    - 2 weeks after purchasing the XPS 15, the screen started having issues. If you divide the screen into 4 sections, the bottom right side has a constant noticeable flickering. I tried doing everything to fix it but it just wouldn't go away. Every single time the laptop goes into sleep mode or I shut it off and reboot it, this same problem persists. After awhile, I simply gave up and started ignoring the flickering. (Only thing I have noticed that helps is plugging in the charger and using the device for one or two hours and the flickering gradually fades away.)
    - Screen freezes every now and then. This has occurred around once a week for every week since March--when I first got the XPS 15.
    - In-built camera. Very crummy resolution.
    - Ports+dongles. There is a high-pitched whirring sound that does not go away if a dongle is plugged in.
This problem does not persist if there is no dongle. However, as a ME student and gamer, I almost always use a mouse that is connected to the laptop.
    - Speakers/sound system produce momentary static if I use them for the first time of the day.
-Customer service. Basically inexistent. I moved to a different country (for university) after buying the laptop, and Dell told me that I couldn't get any help if I wasn't in the country it was delivered to. Even with the warranty, I am basically guaranteed nothing.
    - League of Legends Gaming. The bottom half of the entire screen lags hard. It wasn't there for the first couple of weeks, but after 1 month, the entire bottom half of the screen momentarily freezes and unfreezes--constantly throughout the game. This persists until I connect the charger.
Overall, I would say the majority of problems I have had with the computer is hardware related.
Considering the price of the Dell XPS 15, I would trade it in for a Macbook Pro in a heartbeat and invest a bit more money in a company that has a much more reliable product and will actually help in solving problems related to their products.
For its price, the XPS 15 is NOT WORTH. I expected a MUCH better device with close to no hardware problems.
I Literally went two times higher than my dedicated budget and spent almost 2 years of savings (around $2400 with tax+extra for shipping) for this laptop.
For students who are on a budget--like I was--, I would recommend a Samsung device. Before the XPS 15, I used the Samsung notebook 9 (~$1,200) for 6 years. Games (Wizard101, League of Legends, Fortnite) worked perfectly on my Samsung device for all 6 years. All the workload that my Dell seems to be unable to handle worked unbelievably smoothly on my Samsung device.
Good luck choosing a device everyone.

Had the 9500, but beware that the build quality is below par. My machine had way too much flex in both keyboard and screen, the USB-C charging plug was wobbly and the machine had the fans going constantly even if there was no load on the machine. Would never buy XPS again unless they adress a lot of the quality issues these machines have. One large plus is the display to body ratio on the screen, most other manufacturers should adopt this.

I think I'll keep my XPS 9560 for 5 more years and then I'll buy the new 9560 :).
For now, there are some dealbreakers for me - short battery life (6 hours are not acceptable for work), no USB-A (that will go away, but not today), no full-sized HDMI (even bigger problem than missing USB-A for now). Plus I don't really like hardware. I don't thing this generation of Intel CPUs will age very well (Alder Lake looks much better suited for laptops) and GPU is seriously lacking memory. And if I get to the "I wish" territory then 90+ Hz adaptive sync screen would be great.

Finally able to get my hands on one & the issue is 3.5k is not 4k & if your a resolution junkie than even glorious OLED will not fully make up for it. I'm sure they had a good reason for not going full 4k but it's unfortunate. Xps laptops still have the best overall package than all other laptops in my opinion.

    • @DesertCookie
      @DesertCookie Před 2 lety

I still don't quite get the 4K option to be honest. I've got a 3K screen at home already (3840x1440) and sure, it looks a little bit nicer with its 125ppi compared to my 109ppi 1080p screen but it's not a difference I'd kill for. Of course, these are desktop monitors and you tend to sit closer to a laptop. Even then though, you can't distinguish pixels on a 15" 1080p display from 61cm away which is a pretty standard viewing distance. I'd love to see a 1440p option as that seems to be the sweet spot for better sharpness than 1080p and better battery life than 4K with potentially room being freed up for higher refresh rates in the power budget with can also help alleviate eye strain just like higher resolution.

    • @fredbloggs523

I have received it and am a little disappointed with the display. The lower right edge has a bright area and the overall display definitely has that lcd look about it. By that I mean there is a faint yellowish tint in the centre that moves around as you move your head and slight colour shifts at different angles. Not what I would expect from a high quality IPS panel. My 2014 Samsung ATIV 9 laptop really puts it to shame in that regard. I really would like to see it side by side with OLED to decide what I would prefer

I have a question. I'm looking for a laptop to do 1080p video editing for my CZcams channel. I use windows movie maker (yes, still have it 😁) It's easy. So, do I really need a dedicated graphic card or Intel iris xe with I7 and 16gb ram will be enough? Right now, I upload a 15 minutes 1080p video in 20 minutes with my desktop with I7 and older system from 2017. Thinking about buying the Samsung book pro with iris xe or Dell xps 15 with iris xe.. Or should I buy the GeForce rtx 3050?Thanks 👍

Mine stays open too, I have it in clamshell mode on a stand and it opens up about 8mm gap as if it should have a little more magnet power. Although I do like how easy it opens with one finger when horizontal on a desk etc.... Add a magnet will create more force to overcome which will make it like most laptops so I guess there are pro and con to everthing

@@KenMrKLC I bought a 9500 and two 9510, and all three had the same behavior. I also have the previous model, which does not have the lid open but it is impossible to open it with one hand. So as you say, it has its advantages and disadvantages, it can be opened with one hand, and if you press the lower part of the hinges a little when closing, it is firmly closed.

They have a lot of quality control issues. I went for a MacBook Pro 15 too, at the time the XPS didn’t have a large touchpad, USB-C charging on both sides, or upward facing speakers or a 16:10 screen all of which I really like on the MacBook. They only got all of this in 2020 but 3 years too late for me lmao, I have gotten used to macOS now so it’s even easier for the M1 to tempt me as I don’t have to learn a new OS right now as well.
