I have had a 7.3 now for about four years and I gotta tell you I watch every single one of your videos to upgrade my black Betty. she’s a 2001 lariat crew cab from Florida. She’s got about 194,000 on her right now and I expect another 194,000 out of her easily. I appreciate you taking the time to video your findings. It helps us all out immensely. Keep up the good work brother. Thanks again again for your videos.

I got about $10Gs of RiffRaff parts on my 2000 7.3 and Yes Clay is Awesome to work with :) While they have them in stock... Get a Motor/ Injector wire harness Now! These trucks are old and just replacing my harness she's running way smoother!
Also Bro, theres a slot to put a zip tie on the alt. to hold the hose! But still miss the ole F-250 I watched you build!

This is a great mod for the 7.3, I did this when I tackled the water pump…however I didn’t get the silicone hose…wasn’t an option then I don’t believe. The only thing I might add is I used a couple of zip ties to hold the upper radiator hose to the bracket…right along the lip it sits in, keeps it away from the serpentine belt. I really appreciate your videos…very educational and thorough, I watch them all. Love the content.. keep ‘‘em coming.

I was originally planning on adding some zip ties or a strap but after installing this hose I actually have very little concern of it hitting the belt. Because of the fit and how much more rigid it is I had to put a lot of pressure on it to even get it close. Something I will keep an eye on though.

Parts stores carry the upper radiator hose for the "dual alternator" option trucks and it goes around the serpentine belt. (in case you can't get the Riff Raff version in time)

Hey Joe, I think most of us know that these companies sometimes provide their parts to you CZcamsrs, that's how they get business. I'm sure it will make someone jealous, it always does. Riff Raff is a great Powerstroke company and I'd like to thank them for helping you out from time to time. I changed the hose on my 7.3 several years back I knew it would definitely be a problem one day, like you said if your serpentine belt ever broke, it would be bad day, lol 😂 Have a Blessed day brother. Just when I thought I knew everything about my 73. I always wondered why that cut out was in that bracket behind the alternator. I’ve never heard of this before. I have had to change my belt on the side of the road I was able to do it very quickly with the help of my son we just he had the belt in place, I disconnected the hose heswooped the belt really quick and reconnected the hose and lost very minimal coolant

That’s cool! Would be very very nice next time I have to change my squealing belt. Man these things can squeal so loud you would swear that the is a pulley going out somewhere….. Decade long 7.3 Guy, had to figure everything out on my own, wanted to share this.
I am not sure if everyone realizes that there are different part numbers for their belts. My parts guy schooled me… For the trucks with the Block Heaters, there is a belt that is slightly shorter than the truck with out the heater. It squeals a lot less now…So yeah, 10 years and just figuring that out and wanted

Just did the HPOP on the ole (01)) 7.3… I had the crazy No start with turned in to very hard to start…… I found that what I was doing wrong was trying to start the truck on a bad starting system… A new Starter, New Batteries, Make sure your cables are tight before doing that job. That truck needs to have all you got. So I had one negative cable on the passenger side very slightly loose. The one on the drivers side was hot as heck…. Hope that helps someone out one day

Another great preventative maintenance video! I’m waiting for spring weather to do my ‘05 6.0’s upper & lower radiator hoses. Maybe a coolant flush. I do run a coolant bypass filter. I know people feel strongly either way but it came with the truck.
2 years ago, I replaced the truck’s bed rails that had rusted out. I had to do some body work to the wheel wells.
Of course, I started doing upgrades since the bed was off. I even painted the bed underside with bed liner…fun times!

If you lose your serpentine belt while driving a 7.3, you already messed up. All my 7.3 trucks have the longer hose but that won't save it when that belt breaks. The serpentine belt will rip both the top and radiator hoses loose along with the transmission cooling lines and leave you stranded. You have to keep a close eye on the belt and ALL the idlers to make sure they are properly aligned and spinning freely. If you see a strand separating from the edge of the belt, it's because one of your idlers are worn and misaligned. Use a straight edge along each pulley and verify that the straight edge is parallel to the path the belt needs to take to reach the next pulley. It's not about losing about a gallon of coolant changing the belt, it's about losing ALL the coolant and most of your transmission fluid depending on how quick you can shut off the truck. This happened to me in a narrow construction zone with a trailer loaded with 8,500 Lbs. of steel. A mile from the next exit, and I made that mile and halfway up the exit ramp.

Good video Joe!!! I have bought from Riffraffdiesel before. Love their products. Something you may want to consider is switching to Evans High Performance coolant. DieselSite sells it. It's expensive up front but it should last the lifetime of the truck. It does have 2 more advantages that you have 0 psi pressure on your coolant system and you you put it in and forget about it. As far as a coolant bypass filter. You will be surprised how fast the filter plugs up. I have one on my 2000. I also am using the Evans High Performance coolant in my 2000. Have had it in it for 5- 7 years.

The only reason I'm not going with this particular hose is because the hydro assist steering setup I'm going with in the future requires the through-the-belt hose. Thankfully, Mishimoto's silicone hose goes through the belt AND RiffRaff carries it.

Hey there, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and have been a long time fan. I occasionally post some of my own 7.3 content too. When I swapped the serpentine belt, I drained a little bit of the coolant into a bucket and just popped off the hose up top and ran the new belt over it. Nice option from riffraff though!
