    Most motivating video i've seen for a while. Every time i go out shooting i feel overloaded, forget what to shot, what to say and in the end i'm not satisfied at all. Very glad to see you struggling as well sometimes. Such a video is more worth than 20 other videos where the creators show how awesome they are - brilliant video!

    I'm basically a one man army when it comes to filmmaking and the thing I most identify with is the feeling of being exhausted and overloaded, especially when I film a music video with the performers. The stress of setting up the film set for every unique scene in a location, which includes setting up the environment, lighting, camera gear, camera settings, crowd control, becomes almost overwhelming very quickly, when you realize that your time is limited. At times like these I realize how much of an important factor is mobility and gear management, being able to deduce beforehand what you will definitely use and pack only those essential things in a way that allows you to use them as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    What a great video! I spent 2 years during the pandemic shooting a full length feature film all alone on my LG v40 smartphone. Which wound up becoming an award-winning film now, and I'm about to shoot my second solo film, all by myself, but this time on the Panasonic S5. I learned a lot in this video, things that will help me with this next project, but also, I learned more over the two years of making my film than I have learned in my entire life combined. Proving, once again, that the best teacher is actually going out there and doing it. When I started shooting my film, I had never even owned a camera in my entire life. I knew NOTHING. I learned everything on the fly, from CZcamsrs like you. I am a solo theater artist, but now I am equal parts filmmaker. I even got hired to shoot a documentary earlier this year, and so this is all a dream. Thanks so much for all of this information, and actually for all of the videos that you share, I have learned so much from them, and in fact, I decided to buy the Panasonic S5 in large part because of you. I have been working with the Sony a6400 for the past couple of years, and I actually love that camera, but I realize the S5 allows me to make a much better project with this film I'm about to shoot. I also feel like the S5 is a camera that I can really learn from, and grow with. I'm going to keep my a6400, but the S5 is going to be my main camera moving forward. At least for now lol. It never ends. I definitely learned that when it comes to filmmaking gear. :-) Thanks again, amazing work as always.

    Great content & good advice Sam, really enjoyed this video & appreciate you being honest about your limitations & expectations - have been in similar situations and felt equally defeated, or if I have achieved the shots/content, you then become overly-critical about how more time & focus could produce better results (etc). Great stuff and good work for being ambitious and producing a great story about the experience.

    This is such a massive thing in our tech review space as smaller content creators with limited teams and resources.
    I sometimes accept to go shoot brand content with tight deadlines disregarding the fact that I have other things scheduled in the meantime (like directing and editing commercials, my bread and butter…), and this is sometimes a massive headache to produce.
    Also, this “my brain ain’t working right now, don’t know what to shoot” is very much familiar in these kind of situations…
    I gotta do something about it, like not accepting these very short deadlines. Yet have I just accepted to shoot some new branded content by the end of this week knowing full well that my schedule is full said week… 😅
    Dope content as usual mate, super relatable, keep it up! 🔥

    Hi Sam
    First off, just found you channel and it’s great. I’m looking at switching careers late in life and with no skills, want to look at furthering a lifelong passion in film.
    Here’s a question that you may like to ponder for a next video…. Is a drone a better option than a small film crew? Is it possible that having a drone take away all of the hassle of having 2,3 or 4 people to film scenes and lugging around a ton of equipment or do you think that having a crew is more beneficial? I feel people just see drones as getting a higher perspective of a shot rather than thinking outside the box and having a steady shot at head height should you not have a crew.
    Thoughts?

    I film everything alone (billy no-mates when filming!). Do you really need the slider? Could you not do the same thing in post digitally? Serious question because I can't afford a slider and its one more thing to hoik around but I still want that movement in my shots.

    • @DatrysiadMedia
      @DatrysiadMedia Před 2 lety

      You can do it in post, works better with interiors using straight lines to replicate a parallax.
      Outside though is a but harder since you have to shoot in 4k and above and punch in, then animate the slide from left to right or vice versa

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 2 lety

    I do. I'm bedbound due to my illness and having people around me for too long is too draining and makes me more ill. I can only get up every 3 to 4 hours for a few steps. Placing my tripod or camera etc. somewhere all needs to be done seperatly. It can take me days to just prepare for a shot. I normally photograph, but I am interested in filming as well. I would love you to create a video focused on how to film yourself when you're diabled and can't move well. What gear could be useful. The slide in one of your videos looks really handy but hard to set up and move around I guess.
    Here's my first attempt to film a short movie:
