OK! It worked. Also, in case you want to do this slightly faster there a couple of shortcuts you can use. In the 1st way mentioned in the video he went to Computer->Right-click->Properties but you also go there by pressing the Windows+Pause buttons at the same time, then there is no shortcut for the User Accounts but there is one for the Computer Management. You just need to right-click on Computer and then choose Manage.

Just wanted to say thank you. I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a while. I was aware that I had to change my name in three different places, then restart. I was only changing it in user account settings, under change user name. Thanks!!!

I can't tell you how many videos and instructions I've read on how to change the "screen name" but all of them did not work. Your system of making changes in three places was the best set of instructions that I've ran across. Thanks. AAAAA+++++

ATTENTION TO EVERYONE WHO COULDN'T CHANGE IT UNDER COMPUTER MANAGMENT:
If you weren't able to find the "Local users and groups", please follow these steps. I promise it works.
    1. Open the program called "Run"
    2. Type in: regedit
    3. Double tap "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    4. Double tap "Software"
    5. Double tap "Microsoft"
    6: Double tap "Windows NT"
    7: Click on "Current version"
8: On the right side you will see a REG_SZ named "RegisteredOwner". Highlight it by clicking once and then right-click and click on "Motify".
9: Change the name and save it.
    I hope it helped!

During the Windows 10 Pro install. For the 1st time in a year of many installs I didn't log in as local, which allows me to setup my computer name as the name I want to use for the 1st run admin as well as this being the same name under C:users/myname. Then I log in with my Microsoft Account. Using the new Tech Bench Build 10.16. I made the wrong assumption the tge user issue woud be fix.
i was wrong. This time I let the PC connect to my microsoft Acc. during the install. Now in control panel/Users. i am the 1st run admin. My name is correctly spelled. In settings (same thing, no issue). However under C:/users my name isn't the same it has only 3 correct letters and 2 numbers. I know it is this user that contols the app data. so if I try to just rename it here, then go to CM Mangement, under local users and groups I can see the miss-spelled name under name next is the correct name with my outlook account. I didn't think it would work, but I changed it to the correct spelling here as well as under the user. when I found that the PC would allow me to log on but only as a temp. I enabled the system Admin. went back and triec to fix it again. (didn't work). So I added a local user as another admin. tried to fix it again. All I have manged to achive is creating 3 users. short of doing a fresh install my old way. Do you have any suggestions. Reinstalling dosen't bother me. I would just like to know how to fix this for anyone else. It just defies logic that you cann't run an Install with your Microsft account. Every time I do Microsoft changes my user name.

Hello FlamesOfIce, I understand why that is difficult to find. Try doing the following:
      1. Go to your desktop.
      2. Create a Notepad document.
      3. Paste in "control userpasswords2"
      4. Save the document on your desktop, under the name "change user name.bat"
      5. Close the notepad document and double tap on the "change username" icon, on your desktop.
      6. When the small window with users pops up, select the username you wish to change and click on properties.
      7. There you should be able to change the full name and username.
      8. When done, click on "apply" and ok.
      9. Restart your computer.
      I hope that helped

I hope someone here can help me. I got a laptop from someone who is deceased. I changed the registry keys to place myself as the new owner, I changed everything I could think of. However, her name still shows up. It shows as a user when I open the task manager. It shows up in every pathway list such as C:\users\Name\Desktop\Downloads. I can't figure out where the laptop is getting this info from if it's been removed everywhere I can fathom.
