    The Year of Return, Ghana 2019 is an initiative of the government of Ghana - along with the U.S.-based Adinkra Group - that is intended to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana) to settle and invest in the continent. It was formally launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo[1] in September 2018 in Washington, D.C. as a program for Africans in the diaspora to unite with Africans. The year 2019 is symbolic as it commemorates 400 years[2] since the first enslaved Africans touched down in Hampton, in the English colony of Virginia in America.[3] The program also recognizes the diaspora's achievements and sacrifices in the time since that event.[4][5] Starting from when President Barack Obama made a visit to the Cape Coast in 2009, many famous, respected and admired African-Americans from the diaspora have visited Ghana to discover its culture.[6] The Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture lined up a slate of activities in "celebration of the resilience of the African spirit."[7][8] Many African Americans shared their stories regarding their experiences in Ghana during the Year of Return

    I live in Baltimore and I have previously lived in NY. In Ghana ur children are not raised by u alone and the culture where kids challenge the elderly unnecessarily as seen in state is not accepted. My sister we love u so much and u are one of us allow the children to be trained by others as well.

      If one miserable lady wrongs you, it does not make all of Ghana responsible, if it was a pattern that endures over a period of time from people from all walks of life, then perhaps you might have a good enough sample, upon which to draw a better conclusion

    First of all, I would not have allowed my young children to go to a store alone, especially in a new country, until I am more familiar with the culture. I was born in 1960, in Georgia, and adults could correct us, verbally, but not physically. This generation is different.

    The little girl did NOT tell her that she was lying. She answered honestly and responded to the question by stating, "No, you did not hit him. You pushed him." Our cultural (AA) encourages and trains our children to tell the TRUTH, even if the person they are speaking to or about is an adult." In our culture, to LIE is disrespectful and comes with a stiff punishment. Lying to appease adults is never acceptable!

    • @benbo7042

      Nonsense. Which culture do you know of which teaches kids to lie?

    • @YenkoAfrica
      @YenkoAfrica Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@benbo7042 Your comment is nonsense. When you intimidate a child out of telling the truth simply because you are the adult and they are the child, you are forcing and teaching them to lie. I'm NOT a novice in Ghana, and I see it happening quite often. In fact, it happens not only among children but also among adults. If a so-called big man or big woman is involved, those of less means will lie in hopes of gaining or maintaining.😏

    Right now there are many black Americans, especially black American women who are rushing to social media talking negatively about Ghana.
    I don’t know whether it is about getting views. Because In Ghana, the diaspora cannot really get a job In Ghana. I don’t know whether these black Americans money are running dry, that is why now this negativity of Ghana is coming out on social media.
    And I’ve noticed videos that talk negatively about Ghana or Africa in general gets lots of views.

    How is she treated as American mother in Ghana by Ghaniain nationals,discriminatory? Rational quotient wont allow any man who is welcoming n affable to discriminate love between parent/child. In fact Ghanains will show more love to your kids to gain your approval that they care, Culture of child raising differences; Ghanain culture of child raising approves community discipline when a child goes wrong, that all Americans coming back to Africa must be make aware, in Africa we spunk the naughty child mem!!!!

      There are miserable people in every country including Ghana and America but from my experience in Ghana they did not discriminate against me. But if you move there be ready for cultural differences and sometimes cultural clashes cause we are all raised differently. But if we really want to grow and build with one another we will work out all the misunderstandings or problems and learn to understand and work with one another. And I think the goal should be unity for all of us Black-Africans globally.

    I just don't get her, she should mingle a bit to understand the Ghanaians culture. In Ghana It's not that a younger child cannot correct an adult, it's always the way the child talks back to correct the adult is what matters. Adults do not want to be talked to by a child as equals...........................

    First of all ghanians has to respect our American culture as well as they want us to respect their culture and I bet they don’t say that about the colonizers bad behavior, and we have to embrace each other and try to get along and besides respect is mutual and in America only parents are to discipline their children and not all ghanians are nice people there are bad elders as well so truth be told, and Americans are really not appreciated as we should be after all we are coming back to our African home and to build up Africa while ghanians didn’t do much to improve the country,

    can cost all this things but descriminiting children no,no,no there can communication misunderstanding but descriminiting children I don't think that becos Ghanaians don't joke with foreigners at all millions can testify that and is a fact maybe something else happens we you have to tell us but descriminiting children is thing else

    This headline is really triggering. The matter discussed is a minor neighborhood dispute and your headline turns it into a statement on Ghana and African American brotherhood. Most people won’t listen to that long story to realize this is simply a minor misunderstanding, age/cultural clash, but not institutionalized discrimination.
