  • Here's a good old tune that I love to play. Jeremy has a little twist in it that he insists on throwing in each time we play it. It always makes me giggle. :)

I come from a fiddling family, my grand uncle's played and besides dancing at family gatherings (Texans do love to dance) we went to fiddle contests all around the hill country. Ragtime Annie was my daddy's favorite. I used to take him for doctor appointments at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. On one trip we were in my new car that had the latest in high tech, a CD player. Imagine, you could, with the push of a button, go to any song on the CD. Not just that, no flipping anything for side two or rewinding/fast forward til you found the song and then fine tuning to get the exact start. Miraculous!! I was all set to show Daddy this new wonder. I had a CD of fiddle standards all ready when I picked him up. We had a two hour round trip and it was gonna be great.
He was very, very impressed. He really liked the "repeat" function. We listened to Ragtime Annie all the way there and back, two hours! When I would hear the end coming and try to casually let it go to the next song he would say "You know, I think we ought hear that one again". I sure miss that old coot. Ragtime Annie is now my favorite.
    Thank you.

Loved it and loved Jeremy's shirt. Loved the little wind down of notes near the end and loved the Em chord and would LOVE to see what the pup looks like now as he must be growing. Thanks!

I finally found this. I can play the lead on the 5-string and now I have to figure out the harmony. It's fun playing along with you, and thanks for playing the third part.

smokeyjoe5670 I grew up in Manitoba listening to recordings of Don Messer, Andy DeJarlis, Graham Townsend, Ned Landry, Reg Bouvette, and many others. I went through the competition circuit and did pretty well, played for a lot of old time dances too. You can read my full bio at my web site: www.pattikusturok.com :)

Hello, quick question -- are there 2 tunes being played here or just 1? I hear Part A and B of what I remember my dad playing as Ragtime Annie at the start, but is there another reel mixed in after that? Or, is there a Part C to Ragtime Annie? My dad grew up playing the fiddle, and he would be 100 now if he were still alive. He was a multi-instrumentalist and he played up to the last few months of his life and passed away at the age of 93. I've been learning the violin as an adult over the past 10 years, and I'm trying to recreate what I remember of my dad's play list. Thank you so much for posting 365 tunes, many of which I recognize. This is a very valuable resource for fiddlers, both new and experienced, and your variations and ornamentations are wonderful! My dad would have loved to hear you play! And, I love the addition of Jeremy's Bm chord! I used to chord along to my dad's playing on piano or guitar and I like to throw in the minor chords that I "hear/feel" along the way! Those memories are bitter-sweet today as I transition to playing lead in my dad's absence while my brother plays the accompaniment.

Look up Eck Robertson, it’s the first version ever recorded and has the third part which changes to another key! The 3rd part is not as popular but it’s out there.

yes @ 2:02 sounds like alot of Graham Townsend variations have been incorporated into your style over the years or just sound better that way whether or not you insist Graham Townsend played a role in your selection of said variations of playing, and I feel sorry for the piano stand , just kidding Jeremy you have the finest ear for playing on the fly every time

sophia rozaia I am a huge fan of Graham Townsend and spent much time with him in my teen years. I played along to his records and also to all the homemade tapes we had from his many live performances. He was truly a Canadian fiddle treasure....sure do miss him!
