Thanks for bringing up Great Expectations. I had to read this in grade 9 for English class. Typically as a teen I felt this was not going to be interesting. I was proved wrong. It's time to reread as with your description and being more than 50 years ago I've forgotten quite a bit. Thanks again

Yes, it really is - I love Powell & Pressburger films - and a wonderful story by Rumer Godden.

Very interesting. Am glad to have found a place to learn about some older books. Most of them concentrate on trying to sell you the newer ones. Want to read some Kate Mosse.

Thanks for this list. I do appreciate that you don't focus solely on current books. The book I associate with Easter is "Dear and Glorious Physician" by Taylor Caldwell. It's about St. Luke.
I read it when I was a young teenager and Caldwell did an excellent job of making Luke a human rather than some cardboard saint.

Melvyn Bragg has a long running show about many many topics called In Our Time. It’s very good.

Hi, I just discovered you because this video popped up. I love Miranda Mills (CZcamsr) and I kept searching for another ‘Book-Tuber’ but didn’t like what came up in the search so I gave up. But here you are, I have watched 2 minutes and know that you will be one of my channels. xxx

Thank you so much for this Easter video Rosamunde! I'm glad that you are feeling better and it's so good to see Tilly as well!😃 I love Lucinda Riley! And The midnight rose is a fabulous book! It was the very first one I read from her! Joanne Harris is also great, I have read quite a few of her books. I haven't read The Lovely bones though so I am definitely going to read it next! Thank you so much for the recommendation! And happy Easter to you and your family!

Yes, The Hobbit!!! I was so excited when you mentioned it. I've read most of the books you mentioned. I've added Credo to my need to read list. I also want to read the Narnia books. I've never read them and thrifted until I'd collected the whole series! I hope you have an enjoyable Easter!

This is a lovely selection Rosamunde. You have successfully pitched two titles to me. I have been meaning to read Joanna Trollope for years so this is it ! Great Expectations is lovely for either Easter or Christmas. Glad to know you have recovered from your colds. Colds can be such persistent things, can't they !😘 Easter blessings to you.🙏💐🐣

Thank you for your compelling reviews. I plan to buy "The Magician's Nephew" for my great niece. I would enjoy seeing suggestions in the future about good Spring books for 3-4 year olds if any come to mind.

Thank you! I hope your niece enjoys the introduction to the world of Narnia! I'm not very up to date with books for the younger age group - and I tend to use books from my own backlist and the few I have are probably out of print - but it might be fun to talk about them one day. I'd be happy for anyone else to give suggestions here!

    Two questions:
    1. What do you mean by “time slip?”
    2. The city of Tears is the 2nd book in the series. Do you recommend reading the first book, the Burning Chambers, before the city of tears?

    • @booksfrommybookshelf
      @booksfrommybookshelf  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi!
      1. 'Time slip' usually refers to a book where there are different timelines - perhaps two or more stories told in alternating chapters in different periods. The characters in the stories are usually connected in some way (e.g. family history)
      2. Yes, I'm aware that The City of Tears is the second. I didn't know that when I bought it, and it does occasionally refer to the earlier story - but you don't need to have read the first one first to enjoy this one as it stands in its own right. But of course, you might want to read The Burning Chambers first if you prefer to read series in order.

Interestingly, Amazon won’t sell me a used copy of Credo “due to my location” so I guess there is a copyright issue here in the USA. Wasn’t able to find it in any of my library resources either. First time I’ve come across this problem. Never mind, there are at least 20 books in my tbr collection!

Wonderful suggestions, as usual! Many of these I’ve read but some likely to be worth a re-read 😊 When you mentioned “The Lollipop Shoes,” I was mystified. I had read what I thought was the sequel to Chocolat called “The Girl with No Shadow.” Went to look it up and apparently in Britain it had a different title but it is the same book as “The Lollipop Shoes.” Curious when they do that! But yes, it is a phenomenal book.

Thanks Susanna - that's interesting to know. It is confusing when they change the title for a different readership!
