Anotherchallenger I don’t understand how that changes much. They’re still rivals, down to the core. And although Shadow rivals Sonic in speed, Knuckles rivals Sonic in the other important ingredient that made Sonic popular; attitude. Both characters are known to be very proud their own choices. Knuckles was freakin owning him in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, constantly making Sonic look like a fool and laughing at him all the way. Plus, Knuckles had more fights with Sonic than Shadow did, in games and other medias, not to mention he lost less fights.
Besides, Dr. Eggman is known to be deceitful, and has tricked Sonic way more times, like in Sonic Adventure 2, Heroes, Riders, Unleashed, and in 06.
Knuckles is the better rival for sure.

The Console Warrior bruh quit defending everything Knuckles does that was a bad choice on his part. I like Knuckles but being the leader and seeing the chaos and destruction that happened he'd come up with a more well thought out strategized plan. Sure it would take more time and could risk getting more civilians getting killed but if executed well it could greatly benefit Knuckles and his team

Dr Eggman's clownish appearance is what's supposedly deceive people from the real threat he poses. That's why Knuckles believed him to be a good guy at first. All his round features made him seem like something non-threatening and helpful.

Redz Of The Ultra-Kards Not from what I’ve seen. I remember Knuckles being the one to make Sonic look like a fool all the time in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, constantly laughing at him. Plus, it’s not like Eggman hasn’t tricked Sonic reasonably too. Dr. Eggman was always known as unpredictable.
Knuckles used to be a very interesting character with an interesting backstory that still hasn't been fully explained. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, he was a mischievous character that was constantly trying to trip-up Sonic. He made for a great rival.
When was he turned into a simple brute? In the Adventure games, he was a heroic character that placed his mission before his feelings, but it never made him dumb, only somewhat gullible. In Sonic Advance 2, he's shown piloting one of Eggman's mechs. Clearly the guy isn't dumb, but gullible.
I think it would've been better if Knuckles had a better security system. In Sonic Underground, and in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Sonic and Knuckles", it clearly shows that Knuckles can set up traps whenever there's an intruder.
JustGruffed the plot of advance 2 was eggman capturing all of sonics friend and I bet eggman wanted to make him a dumbass worse than cream by putting him into sonics worse nightmare while he somewhat hangs tails and cream

I don’t know about “the same old excuses”. Every time Knuckles has been tricked, the reason is unique, or it’s never explained. How could you say he’s been tricked the same way, even though there’s no proof?
Even Lord Boxman tricked Knuckles into giving him the Master Emerald in "Ok K.O. let's meet Sonic."
I'm surprised that Knuckles never got tricked by eggman in Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic Generations.

Besides, he only had a short amount of time to think. He's not going to be perfect. If he stopped Eggman, Rouge would have stolen it, if he stopped Rouge, Eggman would have stolen it. Breaking it was the only thing he could have done to keep it away from both of them, and he had to think fast!
If you ask me, it’s the smartest thing he did in the series, and impressive too, and at least he got it back together again.

Knuckles wasn't dumb but rather naïve and gullible in the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes. Now, he is just egotistic and plain unintelligent. This is noticeable in Sonic Generations, Sonic Lost World, and even Sonic Boom. It's somewhat irritating seeing how much Knuckles has regressed a character.
ChronoLimit I don't see that in lost world but what I do see is him somehow getting ambushed by animals when he trying to settle them down

He isn't tricked anymore. The last time was in Sonic Colors, and it was Rouge who tricked him. Even the manual for Sonic Riders Zero Gravity mentioned it. Even Sonic Mania showed this.

The definitive moment of Knuckles' game appearances, if you ask me.
The way I see it, Knuckles was only really tricked maybe two or three times.
The first time because Egan looks harmless and twists the truth that Sonic stole the Emeralds from him, wrecked his ship causing it to crash on the island and was on his way. Those things are true enough to make the rest of the story believable. But Knuxkles also has a mural to misinterpret! The game gear version is sorta the same thing.
The second time is when he said Sonic was collecting shards. Knuckles is SKEPTICAL at first but then thinks he sees Sonic with them. Combined with Sonic refusing to hand them over and Eggman knowing Sonic will do nothing to clear up the misunderstanding, they would indeed fight. And Knuckles was right to say "Me!? What about you!?"/"Like you weren't!?" Eggman even refers to both if them as making his trick plan easy! (This is also how it works in ep 5 of Sonic X)
In Advance 2 idk the story behind his being tricked other than as a gag.
You also missed Colors DS but technically he was "tricked" by Rouge, thinking it was Eggman, but wasn't really tricked. He chose to get involved, simply based on a lie but not really tricked into anything.

When I played Sonic Advance 2 when I was younger, I always thought that Knuckles would be tricked by Eggman.
I shan't lie, I thought the counter was goin' to be 'alf a dozen to a dozen. Nope, twas four....or Five if, the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Colour Sonic title, "Sonic's Pocket Adventure" counts as one.
In short, Knuckles the Echidna was tricked by Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik from the Genesis days, Game Gear to lastly the start of the Dreamcast days.
It doesn't say that Knuckles was tricked in Sonic Pocket Adventure. That's just jumping to conclusions. We don't even know why Knuckles is there.

We don't know that. In Sonic 3, and Triple Trouble the only way we knew he got tricked was because the manuals said so. In Sonic Pocket Adventure, the manuals don't say he did. He could have just been doing his own thing. You can't just assume things just because it seems like it. That's kind of why Knuckles gets tricked. In Sonic Adventure, Dr. Eggman told him that Sonic was after the Master Emerald, but he didn't believe him until he saw the chaos emerald in Sonic's hands which he mistook for a Master Emerald shard. You're doing exactly that. Don't be like Knuckles.
With Shadow around to be Sonic's shiny new rival and the "badass loner" type, there's just no use for Knuckles anymore. Now he's relegated to being Sonic's second sidekick who has no real reason to be around.
Ya think with another person to take Knuckles's spot as Sonic's rival Knuckles could expand even more on his character and become more close to Sonic as a friend achieving more goals learning to become spiritually close to his ancestors but no they make him another useless sidekick. Same with Piccolo from DBZ guy used to be Goku's rival and enemy but since Vegeta was introduced he no longer played that role. He was at least still good until the Buu saga tho

nah Knuckles simply doesn't fit that role anymore. Knuckles character be further experimented on without being a rival of Sonic. Plus if he was the rival he'd be getting owned a lo by Sonic. Shadow has to deal with being defeated by Sonic quite a few times, although he does put up a great fight and gives Sonic a run for his money and he does cause Sonic to struggle quite a bit

I just figured out that Knuckles has become Terra from Kingdom Hearts and that Robotnik is Xehanort. Think about it, a person who's naive, but not stupid and believe who thinks he/she is good to you. Fun fact: Meaning:Earth. Terra as a girl's name is of Latin origin meaning "Earth". Which btw, Knuckles ability is digging the ground where that belongs to earth.

So... 1 game, is not even canon, another game, knuckles is completely out of character, only 2 games he was really tricked, and one of the 2, was not even about being tricked exactly, it was about him being confused, and wanting to fight sonic instead of verifying what was on his hand, so, it's more about "punching first, ask later" than actually being tricked. so that's the "dumb" guy that is always tricked? even though both silver and blaze were tricked but a more misterious, suspicious and evil-looking, guy? and eggman being tricked by both rouge and shadow in the same goddamn game?

1: Sonic Adventure where Dr. Eggman fakes his vulnerability and took the Chaos Emerald away from Tails in the first boss fight.
2: Sonic Adventure 2 where Dr. Eggman tricks Sonic into standing into a trap with the fake chaos emerald, and gets Tails to confirm the emerald was fake.
3: Sonic Heroes where Dr. Eggman wasted their time against the Eggman robot in Bullet Station.
4: Sonic Riders where he gives his chaos emeralds to Dr. Eggman to enter the World Grand Prix just to get his revenge on Jet the Hawk.
4: Sonic 06 where he gives the emerald to Eggman to save Elise, knowing it’s a trap.
5: Sonic Unleashed where Dr. Eggman traps Super Sonic thanks to his ego.
It even states that Eggman tricks Sonic in the manuals of Sonic R and Sonic Labyrinth.

@@donathan2933 True. It's actually common for Sonic characters to be rash. Remember when Rouge thought the Chaotix were after Eggman's treasure, just by looking at them? Knuckles isn't the only one who does this stuff, and the only reason why people remember only Knuckles doing this, is because Sonic says so, even though he can be just the same.
