I always found it strange that Nintendo decided to counter Eggman, an evil character who steals a princess and is somehow allowed to compete in the Olympics, with an idiot who gained an army of underlings that always fail him. Wait, did I just describe the same character?
The funny thing about Dr. Robotnik in the early '90s DiC cartoons: originally Adventures was the prequel to SatAM. You can kind of see it in the pilots, in Adventures Jim Cummings voices Roobtnik, and SatAM was a lot brighter and goofy. I also like how Robotnik can't sing despite Long John Baldry being a good singer, it's funny to me.
