    The IKEA Idasen launches after a less than stellar Bekant product has been available to the masses for close to four years. With numerous electronic failures, poor reviews across the web and even on their own site, there was a bit of hesitation to believe the Idasen would be better.
    Much to the delight for the customers that are IKEA faithful, they made a major upgrade in OEM to global leader Linak. With a shot in the arm (or leg), the IKEA Idasen instantly had an opportunity to improve over its predecessor. In this video, we take a closer look at the things I liked and didn't like about the IKEA Idasen desk.

    If anyone like me is watching this in 2023, be aware that this desk is now up to $200 more expensive than it was at the time of this video. $749 for the 47" and $799 for the 63". Not nearly as competitive at those prices, in my opinion.

    There might not be physical buttons for various heights, but via the App you can program 'favourite positions'. The desk will make a stop when coming by the favourite position height. Not exactly a physical button, but it comes very close! This is enough for me. Anyway, I realise after a year of use, i do not stand a lot. Mostly use the desk sitting.

    Just a heads up. I know there's been inflation and Ikea upped their minimum wage, but still it's something to keep in mind. I've been waiting for the smaller desk or the frame, so I guess I'm waiting a while longer.

    I ended up returning the base and kept the table top to use it with a diy base from another brand. The issue I had was that the collision sensor was not working and it would go all the way down crushing the pc and a cabinet. Also, the weight limit was overwhelming. Rated at 150 lbs but that’s including the tabletop so the weight limit is probably less than that. One thing I really liked about this desk was the fact that it’s well made and super sturdy. Other than that, I think it should cost less than what I paid for. And last it doesn’t have an electronic control unit so you have to rely on the app using Bluetooth to choose your predefined height. I wanted to give it a chance, but it didn’t work for me.

    Low weight capacity?
    I have an iMac 27", 2 * 27" monitors a desktop PC(a pretty heave one), loads of accessories and a 4ft plant as well the desk top is 10kg heavier than the standard one that comes with this table and still absolutely fine. The weight is not an issue unless you're planning on putting things such as a guitar amp and pro audio mastering setup on it so I really can't understand why this is said. For those European watches 165lb converts to just under 75kg. I could quite easily put twice as much weight as I have on it already and wouldn't be a problem. In the UK and probably Europe I think this is the best sit stand desk for this price and you have to go a lot more expensive to meet this ones quality.

    On future reviews, please see just how much the desk actually can lift...Keep adding weight, until it won't raise up anymore. I was hoping, you would try to sit on it, and raise it up. Another question, is uneven loading. Would the desk go off-level, if a 50 pound weight were placed on one end? Most quality actuators are servo controlled, and would indeed raise and lower evenly, even with off center loading. What about a "cheap" one like this?

I'm considering ordering it for my Idasen as an upgrade, thought after reading this (from a review on IKEA website) I'm not sure yet whether I really need it (maybe for the app only, need to try first): "In conjunction with setting favorites, if you use the paddle to move the desk up or down, when it reaches one of the set 'favorite' heights, it will stop for a moment at one of said heights as a courtesy. The hollow core desk top can also be viewed as a plus from an environmental "green" perspective, not just in terms of possibly using recycled material and not using lumber, but also the lighter composition requires less energy to ship versus a solid wood desk top, and I am not talking just about shipping from store to your house, but shipping thousands of these from start to finish. These products are very green. I suppose the question would be, well how durable are they, a solid wood table top could last 500+ years. I'd say, barring any major catastrophe there is no reason the ikea desktop can't last as long...the only exception will be water damage and knicks or dings which could be buffed out of solid wood and even out of wood laminate. 7:00 in that bluetooth app, it does look like you can change the height to a fixed position with 1 button, under "favorite positions." Also, "the wood veneer finish doesn't hold up to everyday use." What does this mean exactly, that the table starts to crack or the paint chips with everyday use? Was it possible to customize the top in store?

    • @btodtv
      @btodtv  Před 4 lety +6

      You can save favorites, but you have to press and hold the button until the desk reaches the preset height. This is not as convenient as press and release, then desk moves to position.
      The wood veneer surface isn't very durable. The first thing we noticed was how easy it is to leave scratches in the surface. If you're careful with the surface, it might not be an issue
      If you are at the store, you can pick any of the different surfaces that IKEA offers (that fit the frame) and pair with the frame only option. Note the pre-drilled assembly holes won't align with these other tops, but that is a minor issue IMO.

      @@DR19X Hi!
      The Jarvis is awesome. i only ordered the mechanism, and went to buy the wood plate in the local hardware store. this saved some money. cut out and installed a usb hub myself which also saved some money.
      The installation is as easy as it gets, everybody can do that. it wobbles a little, but not in a bad way. when you have a desk at 150cm height, you expect that little wobble. but it really is not much. it's surprisingly stable and solid. the up and down mechanism as well. runs smooth, anti-collision does it's job too. it's great.
      it's not only healthier, but it also increased my productivity. definitely worth the investment!
