  • The Pro Action Replay was a cheat device designed for the GameBoy!
Which not only allowed you to use a number of predefined cheats, but gave you the power to find and create your own.
So lets check out some hot cart on cart action and check out the device that also got sold as the GameShark!

i drew the box art to the GBA Action Replay :)
but i couldnt get my head around how the trainer worked as a kid, until i saw andy crane showing how to do it on an episode of bad influence.

I remember when I first got my later version of the Game Boy Action Replay.
It came pre-loaded with loads of codes.
I was a dumb kid who didn't speak any Engish back then tho and while I was trying to mess around to actually get it to work I somehow made my way into some menu that wiped out EVERYTHING on the cart less than an hour after plugging it in.
Not a good day for me

      thanks!
Its a fun device, and one that doesn't tend to get talked about too much. I think mostly because you can't easily emulate the trainer.

I have the SNES one but haven't sold it yet. This seems pretty easy to use compared to something like Cheat Engine. Trying to do complex hacking on CE for mobile games no longer supported is rough. 😆

Hello! Does anyone know if this works with gameboy advanced sp and 3rd gen pokemon games?

This does work with the GBA but only when playing Gameboy games.
There should be a GBA Action Replay device, that would work with pokemon games based on there being codes online.

@@GouldFishOnGames So you mean it works on GBA with games like pokemon gold and silver since they are gameboy games but not with pokemon ruby or emerald since they are GBA games? I know there are GBA action replayers but they are more expensive and i could have gotten this pro one pretty easy and cheap so thats why i was asking. But since it does not work with GBA games i need to buy the GBA one then. Thanks for the fast reply!

Aside from the Game Gear Game Genie, all of these devices were pretty fragile.

I remember the Gameboy game genie being this huge wedge of plastic that almost doubled the height of the machine

If I recall, they didn’t get much better over time. I had one for DS and it felt like it was made out of notebook paper.

I can even begin to imagine how bad a DS version would be.
I might have to track one down just to see :)

you have no idea how close I was to finding a bit of cheesy porn music to play over that section :)
