  • What is the difference between a alpinary and a rockery?
These varieties have a lot in common with each other, including even the design according to styles. The only significant difference is the landing conditions.
If the alpinary device is a rocky hill covered with vegetation, then the rockery often forms a composition of stones on a flat surface. A alpinary always requires placement in a well-lit area, while a shaded area is also suitable for a rock garden. And if the first variety requires planting plants of the subalpine and Alpine mountain belt, then dwarf firs and pines are more often used for rockery. There are other differences, which will be discussed in this video.
    All about alpinary
Such a slide bears its name from the landscape of the Alpine Mountains, which inspired people to create it in artificial conditions. Such a rock garden in the country will be a good corner of natural beauty on the site. To create it, an earthen embankment will be required, in which it is necessary to equip high-quality drainage. From above, the composition is decorated with stones of various sizes, in the cracks between which flowers sprout. Such slides do not require special care. Their correct location will reduce the work on the arrangement to a minimum, and soon such a slide will delight with its appearance.
Decorators distinguish four main styles of alpinary decoration:
The European species is most common in our latitudes. It uses slow-growing plants, the flowering period of which falls at different times of the year. Due to this, the uniformity of germination of the composition and its attractive appearance is achieved.
The English style involves the use of sharp-shaped stones and mainly coniferous plantations of slow and low-growing varieties.
Japanese style is more suitable for fans of minimalism. For him, there is traditionally a small presence of plants, and the stones are mostly small in size and their rounded shape.
The Czech style has appeared quite recently. It is based on the layered structure of the rock garden, in which slabs of various sizes are placed on edges, parallel to each other. Plants are planted in the cracks between them. The landing follows the same principle as in other styles.
Typical mistakes when creating rockeries and alpinary
Amateur gardeners often make certain mistakes at the stage of creating an artistic composition. The flower garden should not be located close to the house in order to exclude the possibility of melt water or snow falling into it from the roof of the house. This can lead to the destruction of the foundation and leaching of the soil.
Sometimes stones of the same size are used as the base, even laying them in a rhythmic order. This interferes with the aesthetics of perception, since the main goal of the alpinary, rockery, photos with performances of which confirm this is to create a natural relief. Such an order does not occur in nature, but it is more a matter of taste. The stones need to be laid randomly, using different sizes.
In the absence of proper experience, it is not necessary to plant expensive decorative varieties in the flower garden. It is better to start practicing with soil-cover varieties proven in agrotechnics. The same ochitok and molodilo will decorate any composition and at the same time allow you to devote more time to other things, since they do not require care.
