  • Bridges are a very popular element of landscape design. They can be found both on vast territories of parks and squares, and on more modest private plots. We tell you what role they play in the design of the territory, what materials they are made of, and in which part of their own garden they should be placed.
Bridges as part of the overall garden decor
The bridge in the garden is not only and not always exclusively a functional object, it is also a decoration of the landscape. This decorative element visually complicates the relief, creates the illusion of a height difference, makes the plot seem more spacious and, in general, much more interesting and attractive.
Functional bridges are used both for decorating the site and for moving people along them and driving carts, strollers, various tools, for example, lawn mowers. Accordingly, it is important that such a bridge is not only beautiful, but also durable, convenient and safe for movement on it.
Decorative bridges serve exclusively as a decoration of the site and are not intended for regular use. In this regard, their design is simplified and facilitated as much as possible. For an additional aesthetic effect, such bridges are often decorated with animal figures, pots with plants or other decorative elements. Another option is tiny bridges as part of garden miniatures.
There are several types of structures to choose from for those who want to decorate their site with a bridge.
Straight. They are easy to arrange, versatile and fit into gardens of any design, but they can also look very impressive and unusual due to unusual railings, complex shapes or special decor.
Arched. They look easy, are well suited to any garden and visually make the terrain of the site more interesting and complex. But due to their more complex shape, their cost is usually higher than that of straight ones, especially if we are talking about some kind of original design.
Step-by-step. They are several individual elements laid at a distance of a step from each other, for example, large boulders, concrete tiles or sections of wood.
Such structures look unusual, and they are arranged easier than others, but they are not very safe for small children and inconvenient for strollers, garden carts and the like.
Stepped. They are two staircases connected by a straight flight. They are usually used in cases where it is necessary to cover a sufficiently large distance. For safety, such bridges are usually equipped with railings.
Suspended. Everything is clear from the name - the elements of such bridges are suspended from the railing or other parts of the structure. Such bridges look very impressive, but they are relatively more expensive than others due to the complexity of design and construction.
Which bridge option to choose depends on the overall style of landscape design, personal preferences, budget and other factors. When making decisions, keep in mind that the bridge is an accent element of the site, and it will always attract attention. Therefore, choose a design that really fits into the design of the site, and do not skimp on the quality of materials and work.
