    Yes, #7. I am from Memphis and Lawler had his own promotion called CWA, after Pro Wrestling USA, and he merged it with USWA. Got a few TV deals, regional. Then Jerry Jarrett left, took his son, Jeff Jarrett, who was pushed heavily as the 'golden boy'. Lawler got a deal with WWE, had low carders make appearances, but he could not be involved as much cause of his WWF/E appearances, which what the locals wanted. But production was low quality, but it was fun.

    The first promotion to GUARANTEE healthcare plans and benefits and employee status will be able to keep their talent. Hands down, that's all it fucking takes. A better schedule on top of it -the problem is then making money. We all know how to make a promotion retain talent, we don't know how to do it and then remain solvent.

    • @fuzzydunlop7928
      @fuzzydunlop7928 Před 5 lety

      @@TheBlackNostalgiaNerd In all fairness, ECW got some grade-A cast-offs from WCW - it was the WWF that both poached and raised talent. I don't we'll ever truly understand just how close WWE and ECW were - but we DO know that they would let wrestlers, still under contract with the WWF, wrestle and become big draws for ECW and then when they'd found their voice they would call them back up to the WWF again. It functioned like an autonomous province, pretty much. They can do what they want but they were still reliant on WWF to a degree. I'd say in the beginning ECW got more talent from WCW than they lost - it was only later with folks like Raven and Mike Awesome that WCW started striking back.
      I mean - Steve Austin and Mick Foley went from WCW to ECW.

      It's because WWE is the standard from which success is measured. WWE has been 90% of the wrestling business for it's 35+ years of existence.

  • @baileykilljoy3461
    @baileykilljoy3461 Před 5 lety

    The idea that AEW is looking to compete with WWE is a little over the top. AEW is looking to do it's own thing don't look for AEW to make WWE better because of "competition" AEW is looking to be a different option for people tired of what WWE is offering. Let WWE be bad if they aren't going to make improvements. Watch other wrestling if WWE isn't entertaining to you anymore instead of complaining about it and continually begging for change. If AEW succeeds everyone wins because everyone will have something to watch and if it's not WWE so be it, the fantasy of asking for them to be WCW 2.0 is just that a fantasy. AEW is it's own thing not WWE competition. This isn't a shot at anyone these are just my thoughts, it bothers me that everyone is making assumptions and discrediting AEW and wanting their soul purpose; to improve the WWE product because of Vince's pettiness. Celebrate other wrestling , WWE isn't the only option and I'm more than glad AEW is spotlighting that more than ever in this generation. Great vid Steve & Larson and I hope you friendos have a great weekend!

    Of course Larry Zbyszko was given the AWA World title (twice), he's married to Verne's daughter

    • @michaelkruelskie8955
      @michaelkruelskie8955 Před 5 lety

      First off, name all the wrestlers that were working with Verne at that time? The core main event stars were ether working elsewhere or retired. I do think the reason why Larry became AWA World Champion was yes he married Verne's daughter but also since he was family, Larry wouldn't just leave the promotion because it was failing. Compared to what Stan Hansen did when he was champion, was told to drop the belt to Nick Bockwinkle. Stan infamously ran over the AWA World Championship with his truck than mailed it back to Verne with a lot of money over the belt. Stan ended up still headlining shows for AJPW/NJPW. So I think Larry was a good choice.
