  • Being able to do rising trot correctly is one of the most important skills that a rider can have. In this video I´ll show one very common mistake in rising trot and also how to correct it.
As horse riders, we need to be constantly developing our seat and our balance to improve our riding.
I also have a longer and more detailed video about the biomechanics of rising trot where we also discuss other typical mistakes and how to correct them. Check it out:

Hello and welcome to my channel! My name is Johanna Janatuinen, I´m a physiotherapist, animal physiotherapist and riding instructor. A big passion of mine has always been training horses and also rehabilitation. This channel is all about horse and rider wellbeing, and horse and rider training and development. You will find tips to improve your riding in and out of the saddle, and especially on how to develop a better seat in the saddle, which I think all good riding eventually comes down to.
I have worked with horses and riders for more than 20 years, first training horses and teaching riding in Finland where I live and also abroad. Later I studied to become a physiotherapist and after that also specialized in animal physiotherapy. I treat and train horses and riders, my biggest focus being to develop the connection and understanding between rider and the horse.

Your demonstration of how to correctly rise in the posting trot is brilliant. I have had so many issues when posting and you are the first person to correctly demonstrate the movement comes from your pelvis and is not just an up and down movement but your pelvis/hips going forward as you rise. Thank you

Fantastic video I struggled for so long doing it wrong I used to feel like I had done 12 hours straight of leg pushes by the end of it 😂 ,you made it simple to understand I hope people who are struggling with rising trot watch this video and can have a more relaxed ride rather than a workout lol x

Hi Dear. Is it okay if I create little bit of hollow angle while rising and straight spine when I come to sit? It is very hard for me to rise with straight soine. My instructor told me you should only move your core and your spine should be in straight line whether you are rising or sitting. But, I can see even you are making bit hollow arc while you are rising.I m so confused😢. Can you please help me out. Cheers

Hi! It's always a little bit difficult to give advise without seeing. Of course we are all different and have to find a way that works for our own specific needs. Do you have tight hip flexors? Doing some mobility training might help. Also if you ride in very long stirrups might make things more difficult so in that case it might help to try with shorter stirrups. Hope this helps at all!
