  • In this video I´ll give tips on how to do sitting trot, and we´ll also look at the sitting trot in slow motion, to understand the movement. In sitting trot it´s essential to find the right movement from your hips and pelvis to be able to follow the horse´s movement.

As horse riders, our seat is the most important aid and it´s affecting the horse all the time when we are sitting in the saddle.
Working on our own fitness and our seat is so important and it really helps us to be able to communicate with our horses better and to be able to follow the horse´s movement.
I have more videos to come on this subject and also many other things so remember to subscribe so you don´t miss them!

Hello and welcome to my channel! My name is Johanna Janatuinen, I´m a physiotherapist, animal physiotherapist and riding instructor. A big passion of mine has always been training horses and also rehabilitation. This channel is all about horse and rider wellbeing, and horse and rider training and development. You will find tips to improve your riding in and out of the saddle, and especially on how to develop a better seat in the saddle, which I think all good riding eventually comes down to.
I have worked with horses and riders for more than 20 years, first training horses and teaching riding in Finland where I live and also abroad. Later I studied to become a physiotherapist and after that also specialized in animal physiotherapy. I treat and train horses and riders, my biggest focus being to develop the connection and understanding between rider and the horse.

Another awesome video. So much gets lost in translation between instructors and riders, so many people get discouraged to continue or make the horses suffer by hampering their backs or pulling on their mouths. Thank you for showing us how to be better riders!

Can you explain what the rider has to do when opening the hip joint, is it moving the pelvis backwards and when closing the hip joint it’s moving the pelvis forward? I don’t understand opening and closing the hip joint is it equivalent to open and close your legs?!

I think I'll need to make a video about this, as I feel it's quite a complicated subject and also depending on who you ask the answer might be different :D As a physiotherapist I would say that opening the hip means extension, outward rotation or abduction of the hip joint, or combination of these. I have a video about hip anatomy that might maybe also help: czcams.com/video/x0K5yGxJ_ok/video.html
But yes, I'll try and manage to make a video where I'll explain it also in relation to riding.
