Again, thank you. i bought the timing constraint tool set and only had to use two of the tools provided in the kit and now it will sit on the shelf in my garage and collect dust. Never mind the question above, it worked just fine without moving the starter.. doing it the way you explained in your video... Have a good one.
Man you said the stretch belt with zip ties later. Where is it ? I want to see that on that specific engine. I was fighting with the auxiliary belt 2 hours, probably with wrong tool (came along with the belt from continental). I tried the trick with vise grip and zip ties but no success. The belt always sliding out from the middle "bold" water pump pulley. Finally after a long fight I remove the two long alternator bolts I loosen the lower one (just a bit otherwise the alternator bends) I set the belt and then magic! I used my brake bar to lever the alternator back in place. That method took me 20min🎉 I hope that helps somebody here.
I completely forgot to show the zip tie method. Literally takes only 30 seconds to do. I apologize. I might post another video and put a link un the comments.
So I did this and and my vehicle ran for a few weeks after. But eventually it quit cranking. Unfortunately i did not know about the cam tool kit and thought I could just replace the water pump and leave the timing alone and be extra careful. I see in the video where you say if cams is not centered correctly to just set the pin and rotate crank shaft. Until dead center, is it really that easy to gain my timing back correctly? The vehicle does attempt to turn over many times before giving up. And I did notice after my water pump job the vehicle had to turn over more than usual before the vehicle would crank when it was running. But the vehicle made no sounds and ran correctly so I thought everything was fine. Now I assume I did something in the timing belt jumped the timing or something. 2016 Ford Fiesta SE hatchback
It sounds like you have your timing off. After you put the belt back on and pulled the pin on the tensioner, did you rotate everything by hand 2 full rotations? Did your timing marks line back up?
What about Tye wrapping the timing belt snug on the crankshaft gear and same thing on the cam shaft gears. I’m thinking that would hold the belt tight. Thoughts? Thanks for the video.
Question, if you were to replace the timing belt which I am how the heck do I get the crankshaft pulley bolt off without turning the crank counter clokwise?
As far as i can tell, there is a tool that you place it where the starter goes. And with that that crank won't move a bit. i'm from brazil and there is a kit with this tool included. Maybe you find it on the Marketplace where you live.
So I purchased the same tool and also got it the next day, worth it. I'm also going to replace the water pump but my issue is the timing belt walked. I understand getting the cams at top dead center my issue is can I just pull the crank pullys and put the new belt bottom pully. I see alot of guys saying you can screw the engine up. I've even seen guys saying you need to pull the starter and axle.
Good job. But If you went that far. Should have went ahead an replaced timing belt and tensioner also. To much work for a kit that cost 150ish$! But by far great walk through for someone not trying to pay a mechanic shop an has some sort of hands on knowledge an can follow instructions!
It was strongly recommended to the customer. Customer declined timing belt and components. This was definitely noted on the repair order to protect my company from liability. Thanks for watching 👍
I'd have the customer sign a waiver stating replacing the timing belt components was adviced and it was declined and you aren't liable for the resulting engine damage if the belt would fail in the future. If they won't sign it you go on to the next one.
Man when you said rotate it another two times but didn't say take the pin below back out I almost messed up. I'm doing this job tomorrow

Might work...might not. You don't wanna risk having the cams move. Makes it a lot harder.

You only turn the bolt not the crank. In the service manual it tells ya to use a strap wrench to hold the crank pulley in place while ya unbolt.

I am not exactly sure I understand your question. Can you try explaining your problem better? Are you saying the belt jumped timing?
Did you have to drain the coolant from the radiator before taking off the old water pump?
You can if you are worried about making a mess, or if you are changing the fluid.
