I'm curious, given the natural counter-shading of baitfish, why the darkest color in this pattern is on the bottom of the fly rather than the top?
Honestly, you can switch the colors to your liking. This is not a real scientific answer to why these colors and mixed and matched like this.
I would say that the scientific answer is that, although color is important, it is secondary, and fish home in on the profile more so than the colors. Profile and size are super important to "match the hatch".
