- The Houston Rockets have decided: Alperen Sengun is their franchise player. With Ime Udoka taking over as a head coach and Fred Van Vleet as his new point guard, Sengun’s role has gotten much more important offensively. In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas takes a look at how Sengun can become an All-Star with a Jokic-type role this season.

Excellent video! An interesting story might be the resurrection of Dario saric at Golden State.
Yes, Alpy can make great progress this year if his team learns to play through him 🚀
I realize y’all aren’t native speakers, so no sweat, but I think you mean a breakout season. A breakdown is either a really bad thing (falling apart, dysfunctioning), or analysis (as in “let’s break it down”).
Love the channel!
Türk bir oyuncu ile ilgili videoyu Türkçe alt yazı ile izlemek isterdim.
Im sure Sengun will one of the most important centers on the league. This guy is so talented
Always enjoy your breakdowns. Sengun always looked like he just needed the right coach and point guard to exploit his skills
Thanks for commenting every time, I really appreciate that. For Sengun, the difference is obvious this year. Hopefully, they can keep building this season
Jokic really changed the league. The centers are having their spotlight
I hope so, Im not a big fan of iso team.
Absolutely. Who thought you would play through them standing in the middle of the court on the 3P line or run post plays where they don't actually the basket most of the time. Huge impact to the game of basketball
Yes, Jokic and now Alpi, Sabonis, even Saric in GSW changed his game. It's wonderful.
Jokic is definitely a monster but Demarcus Cousins don’t get enough credit
@@jaysupreme9757who
Mini Denver. It will take some time for them to make bigger things but their future is bright. Nice breakdown guys....
@@guzelamanetuhafthey have amen Thompson
Thank you! Mini Denver is the term I'll be using for Houston from now on haha
Jalen Green could grow into that hopefully@@guzelamanetuhaf
Can’t wait to come back to this when it ages like that 3% milk in my fridge.
He is such a terrific player..every1 could benefit with a player like AL P
i have seen him play last season, fucking amazing player
And he was underused last year imho. Had their best offensive periods when played through him, yet did not use him enough
just bad organization. rockets are shit@@AugustasSuliauskas
Sengun is a future MVP
X for doubt.
X for belive
@@Masoch1st
I can see him winning that. He won the Turkish league MVP at only 18 years of age.
technically already is
Great video. Dude is looking special. Even his defense is already looking improved.
Thanks. Hoping he learns how to stay out of foul trouble & their team defense around him gets better
@@AugustasSuliauskas It looks like he's already learnt how to stay out of foul trouble. It was a huge problem the last 2 seasons but so far he's stayed very disciplined.
As a fan of Jokic I'm sure I'll be a fan of this guy as well. Good player.
so glad more and more people starting to give Sengun the flower. as a Rockets fan, I have been telling people how nasty Sengun is and in his rookie year he has showed glimpse of what he can be in the future.so so glad he's a Rocket.
I'm Turkish too and he's rocking my favorite number
Awesome, I love jokic style of basketball. Having another player/team with same playing style is gonna be fun for me.
alpi has an all package on offence. He can play post, pick n roll, one hand one leg doesn't matter he can score or have assist easily. And this year he makes his passes, let's say as less show but make it simple which is more difficult. Also his 3 points are becoming a new asset for him. I'm excited to see him grow and grow each day.
This is such a detailed and a successful analysis. 👏👏👏
Thank you very much, I appreciate that!
if the criteria for Allstars were not linked to the stats and results of the team but to the real value of the players he would undoubtedly be part of it just with his no look passes and other spectacular moves
I am sure that Ime Udoka will bring this team to a great level. Nice to have back to Texas
this duo will lure some more excellent players.
very good acquisition.
I'm interested to see who of the young guys grow into the players Houston expects them to be & who get changed with more proven guys
Good job showing how to better utilize a multi-skilled big ( Sengun ). Of course, the "brothers" want to ISO and be ATHLETIC. Coach Idoka and Fred Van Vleet are SMART and know how to utilize him effectively. Jokic has proven that he can dominate the game with his many many skills. Hopefully, Alpern will continue to improve and show that a savvy Point Center can make a big difference.
brothers😂
Ok with that brother shit lol. Just say their names dude
What’s up with the brothers?
dont worry i ask jokic later to teach him sombor shuffle
ALPEREN SENGUN KING OF THE ROCKETS WELL DONE MY BOY I HOPE SO YOU GONNA DO IT 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷 ❤️
20 to 24 -10 -6 worthy of an all star spot - the guy is sneaky smart as
I truly think that the Rockets are top 3 in the NBA in terms of young talent. Sengun, Green, Smith Jr., Thompson, Eason, and Whitmore is a scary core! 🔥🚀
dude model his game after Jokic and is being mentored by Hakeem.
Cant wait to see him in his prime.
Alperen will dominate the league in the future for sure.
Great review!
His draft year is one of the best ever. It took so long to recognize him because he is not American.
Alperen is efficient, consistent, willing, eager to learn, humble and hardworking… What else would you ask for? His numbers will be 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7 Assists and 3 blocks&steals by the end of this year. He may even lead the team on almost all categories. I think he can do that 60%, 35% and 80%. These stats are better than Sabonis who was an all star last season. If Houston is at 6th place or higher by all star break; Alperen will definitely be an all star this season. Houston must agree on an offensive hierarchy asap though. And either Jalen Green or FVV has to have Jamal Murray like numbers asap.
The road to MVP for Şengün goes through gaining a little more mass, making those free 3 pointers, and most importantly being a much better defender.
that one-legged fadeaway ---> "Turk Nowitski"
Highlight Machine!!!
Alperen bir kaç yıl sonra NBA'de adından söz ettirecek. Yetenekli ve zeki bir oyuncu. 🇹🇷
If the Rockets learn to play through Alpy and if he plays 33 minutes or more, I think he could be an All-Star this year.
Let's see, Houston have to start winning more games than losing, too!
@@AugustasSuliauskas They won their last game, you know right?
Of course, but they are 1-3. I meant - having a positive record @@gerekircilik
3-3 already
4-3
He and the rockets have a bright future
He is future MVP❤
İf rockets get jokic right now, is it possible for them to do playoff? or is it same to play "drop coverage" with murray or jalen green? Sengun has everything to succeed but it all goes to the teammates and team mentality. His teammates and coach got to put trust on him until mastering it like jokic.
That’s why Udoka is there
Kevin Porter Jr.: GOOD RIDDANCE
alpi is the third in the NBA so far among those who often handle the ball in attacking positions behind Embiid and jokic...
Just to be a reminder, he is only 21 now. He has a bright future ahead.
Jokic is playing with 4 fast (in defense and offense) guys around him. Similar to Jokic, AlPi is not an athlete (although he can dunk on some centers). Rockets need to make cuts and put themselves in shooting opportunities constantly. Otherwise, who are you gonna pass to? And more %FGs from the other 4 means more assists to AlPi.
An athlete who doesn't look like an athlete. Also, although he is 6'11, he has a very flexible body.
@@morgoth9094 Agreed🤝 He definitely has more physicality than Jokic. And he pushes himself to be better everyday. But he wouldnt made it so far with only his athletic skills. And, we are brainstorming about a 20 year old dude, how young this talent always surprises me 🤔
Alpi is definitely an athletes fool
Man I remember that Augustine alpi pick and roll I was hoping vanvlwt would be a upgraded version of that
This started happening a year ago. Glad you "finally" compiled enough clips to catch up lol
There are players around Jokic who are active and waiting to receive a pass from him. Alperen does not have such a group of friends. Why don't they play this system?
Interesting Analysis 😀👍🏽🤩
Thank you
Sengun & VanVleet could be like the downsized version of Jokic & Murray
Somebody in the comment coined the term 'Mini Denver' & I'm rolling with it. Especially after reading your comment as well lol
I don't understand why Centers( tallest playern on a team) didn't always play like Jokić. It just makes sense. Passing isn't that hard if you practice
passing isn’t hard, passing like jokic is.
coaches.
Probably because unlike today's game, their main goal would be the primary scoring threat (being closest in basket in height and in positioning on court). Since the close shots to the rim were the most efficient shots, they only pass to cutters (which did exist) and movement scorers.
Being a good passer takes skill. Being a good playmaker takes IQ. There have been big men with high IQ in the past, but we are all aware that big men are valuable to a team even without it due to their physical advantages, and thus, the floor level of skill/IQ required of a big man in order to crack the rotation is lower than that of guards, who provide less value without them.
You can't teach IQ.
2:35 i cant believe jabari complaning about Al-p being slow mean while he himself started the season crappy
i couldn't agree more
For the all star game, the rockets record will probably prevent him from making it and there is so much competition at forward: Jokic, AD, Durant, LeBron, Kawhi, George, Sabonis, Markkanen, Wemby, Holmgren
What record?
wemby?
He is a center mate, not a forward.
All Star Game voting doesnt use the center position any more, for quiet some years already ;)
@@Be_Elightened19win-loss record
Sengun deserve all star in my opinion
in the conclusion, we can say that Houston has a lot of promise if they employ alpi as their offensive center. i know it won't be easy, but I think this squad and coach can succeed. on the other hand, alpi needs to improve his three-point shooting and become a more effective defensive player.
he is already passable on defense he doesnt need to be elite defender as every player have them flaws. and tbh he will never be an elite defender but he would easily play his role within a defensive scheme as he is a smart guy. just shoting 3s to keep defense honest will turn him an offensive monster and he will end his career as 6-7 times all-star and as all-NBA probably. he is just 21.
I definitely believe Ime Udoka has already made it clear to all the guys how he wants his team to operate. If Sengun can add a more consistent 3P that would open even more doors. I think that's the next step for him on this side of the court
certainly, i think jokic isn't a good defensive player, but he's smart enough to know where he should stand on the court. We saw if a centre player be main player of a team, they can be success in league after jokic's performance in the last championship. We'll see udoka how to use alpi.
Şengün the future fmvp
After the retirement of important centers, shorts dominated for 10 years. During this time, the big men returned as point guards and athletes, and it is their time again. jokic, alperen, davis, embiid, wemby
Türkiye’nin gururu Alperen Şengün
i hope sengun and the rockets succeeds i dont want to keep saying "it'll happen next year" every year hopefully they will be great again.
BU SEZON ALPİ ÇOK BÜYÜK OYNUYOR
OYNAYACAK TA ❤
sengun is like a more athletic jokic
he's literallly got the tools and station to do it. Can he polish up his natural skills and hone his abilities to tap into the potential he's on lock to set open? gotta watch #Rockets basketball, we here ready for #LiftOff. lets go.
Nice one
Miami should try that with Jovic
Yeah right and he should be the main star of the Rockets
first target is Most improved player
His passing and vision is Jokic like but his footwork is insane as well. It shows he worked with Hakeem in the offseason
What a video. Wow
Thank you!
our turkish delight ❤🤍
The rockets in general are playing good and sengun is playing way better
Rockets missed one of the offensive play of Denver wherein they allow Jokic to get the defensive rebound and bring the ball while four of his teammates will blitz downhill trying to look for the opening so that they can get a pass from jokic...
GOAT
20/10/7 season stats.
He's also very charming
Before jokic there were the Gasol brothers and ofc many other play making bigs. Jokic is the apex of this playmaking big
Crazy slp
He is the best
Super Saiyan Sengun
Alperen Şengün has incredible power. Would you take a look at what we've done?
Alperen goat sengün💪💪💪💪💪
Honestly sengun is the most important player the rockets have, I've been saying they do not know how to use him, his b-ball I.Q. is thru the roof arguably the best passer in the NBA
i'm surprised that Houston is not giving their older players the star treatment instead they actually focus on the development of the young guys.
His legs are heavy.
Sen Gun as in gun weapon not goon as in gangster
His other weakness is 3 points... but he plays much better defense than in the first two years and he tries a lot of shots... I'm not sure about this season, but next season he'll be an All Star.
Before Sengun becomes an All Star, first things first. Correct "Vanvleet" surname spelling to Van Fleet.
Jokic changing the way the game is played and everyone is trying to find their Jokic.
He’s a borderline all star pic
This aged well
"The Jester"
I like this one =)
This is fire 🔥 😂
Detroit need this man to pair with Cade.
Every European in the NBA should have the role because they’re not self centered wannabe gangsters
Trading porter jr was the best thing
alpppiiiii
He will be better than Joker if the coach & players make him the focal point 🤘🏾🏆
man, take it easy with that.
jokic is a 2 times mvp and finals mvp.
how many players in history have that?
better than joker it means to be top 8 centers of all time.
he's good, but man, you are talking crazy :)
as a rookie already he managed to draw fouls better than jokic in his both MVP seasons...hes better than nikola, and unlike alperen, nikola just has his own team and nba beaurocratic apparatus behind him@@rb9888
After he gets his 50th triple double you can start hoping for some similarities, but you need for at least 1MVP and 1 conference final MVP to make a much more humble statement!Like,Hopefully he doesn't get injured and gets to play almost every game, have so much gravity and break Wilts records, gets MJs winshare states, create a team that emulates positionless basketball, then you can say,he's learning how to play in a similar way to Jokic!
That's like climbing K2 in sandals!

season averages with less than 20 games played are meaningless
Don't think Sengun can be an all star this year. He'd have to get in over either Jokic, AD, or Sabonis.
He’s better then Sabonis. Sabonis only has him beat in brute strength and experience
@@hobowithagun24never
Sabonis is the perfect comparison imo it's the level that Alperen will reach eventually but will see if he can surpass him@@hobowithagun24
@@hobowithagun24wow this is the worst take I've seen in a while

Wasn't a critiue on FVF is that he sucked with the pick'n roll and two-man game, in Toronto? Small sample size but both him and Coach Nurse seem to be doing fine while the Raptors are floundring. FVF never had an adequate big man to do the 2-man game wit in Toronto. Also, funny how he is running point in Houston, it appears to be just fine, when in Toronto he was knocked for not having that that skill set.
Rockets and raptors have the same record right now and remember the 76ers work Winning even with doc as a coach.
Best big men nowadays are mostly foreigners. Cousins was there but unfortunately got hurt and never got back to where he was. Last solid big America had was probably Shaq. I give prime howard his flowers too I guess. But yeah it’s been that long already. There would be one day where europeans get as athletic as americans. You know it’s a problem when skill and athleticism go in one.
25/10
nah man
Sengun bence data cok kendisi gibi oynamasi lazim
As a Turk, Sengun has great potential, but it's still only potential. We need to see more development in his play.
I as a Serb think he is already very good player 😃
Yeah honestly following the serb. As a spanish guy he is clearly the best player in the Rockets. With players around that were more efficient (all the starting lineup outside of him is super inneficient) he will probably avarage this season around 8 or 9 assists. He needs to get more rebounds and/or have a greter defensive presence. Outside of that he is nearly elite already.
He hasnt any potential few acrobatic pass not make any player special
The guy almost average 20 ppg and the best player of his team already. He is far from being an only potential lol
@@borivojejasic9934 Thanks mate :) I hope he can be an amazing player like Jokic in the future
