    Nice demo Zac, this really helps me see how you break down each step. Excellent videos you post here, very educational.
    How do you shape and clean up on the bottom between the front guard and sub-hilt? It looks narrower than the 2” belt.

      Thanks! I split a belt so that it’s thin enough to fit between the two guards.

    How do you know distances to where the palm swell is? Distance between front guard and sub hilt? I feel like i can never get them in the right spot.

    What a great tutorial on shaping knife handles. I think you have an understanding of using that grinder that few people will ever grasp. I'm sitting here watching it happen and it's still hard to believe the results that I'm seeing unfold. I'm about to subscribe for sure after I finish this comment. What are you spraying the belt with?

    • @ZacBuchananKnives
      @ZacBuchananKnives  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you very much. I’m using a 50/50 mixture of lemon oil and kerosene, it helps to keep the belt fresh. If the belt clogs up with material it can scorch your handle. Thanks for the subscribe and question!

      And thanks for the reply. That's an interesting mixture lol I bet you and your shop have a very distinct scent at the end of a day of grinding

    This is a great video, very educational and really shows off your experience. When you first started on this handle you hadn't yet pinned the scales. Do you epoxy the scales first, and then epoxy the pins after the bulk of the shaping? In my (very brief amateurish) experience, I do that all in one step.

      @ZacBuchananKnives  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks, I try to keep to videos to the point.
      I do a lot of rough shaping without the handle bolts. By rough shaping first I can go faster without worrying about get the bolts too hot and scorching my handle material. It also helps to make sure I get the recesses for my corby bolts deep enough.
      Thanks for the question and for watching my videos! 👍

    What liquid are you using on the belt. I primarily have been grinding wood handle’s .

    What spray are u useing..micarta burn easu..sharp belts are a must

    • @ZacBuchananKnives
      @ZacBuchananKnives  Před 3 lety

      I use a 50/50 mixture of Kerosene and lemon oil. The kerosene helps to clean junk from the belt, keeping the abrasive open. The lemon oil helps to keep handle materials from scorching. (Especially natural materials such as stag and mammoth ivory.)
      Thanks for the question!

    • @houseknives5737
      @houseknives5737 Před 3 lety

      Cool deal never tried that Micarta burn easy.lobe the way it looks but can be a bear if sharp belts are not used..I do walter brend style grinds on a 1 inch wide wheel..I also work of the edge of the wheel....good viseo

    Why do you not have ur corby bolts in while i are working the handle

    • @ZacBuchananKnives
      @ZacBuchananKnives  Před rokem +1

      By rough shaping the handle first I can get the bolts shorter. That way I don’t have to grind down through them, it lowers the chance of scorching the handle material

    What belt and grit are you using?

    • @ZacBuchananKnives
      @ZacBuchananKnives  Před 3 lety +1

      I rough the handles in with a Norton 50 grit orange blaze. Then progress up to 1,200 grit before buffing
