    Thank you for your video. I have dipped candles for years, having tried molding with little success (I could never get many of them to come out). Your pointers have given me hope that it is possible, and I will be trying again thanks to you.

      @yesihaveone1129, I'm so glad my video could help you. Yes, they can be a little tricky especially if they have been sitting around a while & have built up a little surface rust on the inside. In my experience, it helps if you can clean most of the inside of the candle mold out & then lubricate it well, especially if one of the molds look a little rough inside. A few may still try and stick in there a little but as you see, there are a few different ways to get them to come out. It's just kinda like an old door hinge, with a little cleaning up & use, it's good as new. If you run into any trouble with it, feel free to reach out. Happy Candling!

    One tip about big chunks of wax, if you want them smaller just place it in a freezer overnight and wrap it in a old cloth and whack it once with a hummer it will shatter like a glass and cloth will keep it from flying all over your house

      Great tip @sergeytaranovich2368! I've used nylon string to cut them into smaller pieces. It worked a little better, but seemed like there must be an easier way. I'll have to give the freezer tip a try. Thanks!

    I stumbled upon this video at an opportune time. I have a family heirloom mold similar to yours that I've never had much luck with. I believe that you have given me the right tips to help me be successful with it.
    For braeking up your big wax block, try putting it out in the hot summer sun or in a hot attic, that will make it easier to cut. I did have an especially hard block once, where I resorted to drilling a series of holes along the line where I wanted to cut it.
    Whenever I am finished a wax project and don't want to leave it in the pot, I poor it on to a cookie sheet pan or into acouple of old ice cube trays. That makes handling it the next time much easier.
    I have never messed with tallow candles but from what I read it was a messy and smokey proposition. I have played with bacon grease as a candle fuel, which I presume has similar qualities to tallow, and it has to be in a container because at room temps it isn't solid enough to be able to stand on it's own. I suppose there might be an additional process that they used to make it more solid, akin to what is done with soy oil to get it to the consistency of Crisco and further into soy wax. It would be interesting to see someone chase down that process. Thanks

      Hi Richard, what a great family heirloom to retain in the family, passing down the craft & knowledge of using it. Really cool! I'm grateful my video provided good use to you.
      Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely give them a try, I really like the drilling idea as I have plenty of drill bits to make use of.
      As for tallow candles, personally I haven't had much interest in creating them & using them around the house, but it would probably make an interesting video for sure.
      Thanks again for the tips & best of luck to you & your family with the candle mold!

    Thank you for sharing this! Very helpful information. I was really interested in buying one of these molds but I keep seeing that they are not made for beeswax which is the only wax I have and want to use for now so I was really disappointed. I think I’m going to try anyway. ;) Thanks again.

      @everwild82, glad this was helpful! I can't think of a good reason why you couldn't? These are very old candle molds and beeswax is all that I have ever used in them. You shouldn't have any more trouble with them than you would using any other wax. Best of luck to you & happy Chandlering!

      Hi Annalise, I'm so glad you found the video helpful. The roll of wick I used was a 200 ft spool of organic hemp, with light wax coating for $10.95. Below is the link as well of the exact wick & 'll also include it in the description. Let me know if you think of any other questions. I'll have to get to work on the subject of tallow candles ;). Take care!

    I have a couple of these old molds. Now I’m seeing them priced high at antique stores. Looking for ideas for barter when the economy tanks in my little north Idaho community. Thanks for all the helpful tips. New subscriber! Gonna build a dasher washer next. Copying inventions from the Great Depression etc…

      That's great to hear! Clean them up & make a few candles. Great idea! Looking back to what tools & skills were used during the great depression and even prior are invaluable skills to have. Most importantly in troubling times. You're right, the way things are headed, we all may be learning new skills our grandparents used sooner than we think.

    Can we make that mold out of pvc pipes?

    • @Just-N-Time
      @Just-N-Time  Před 3 měsíci

      @rodleyperera9377, as long as the inner walls were well lubricated, pvc should work to form a candle. The end of the candle may not be as tapered as the tin candle molds are unless you modify the end cap a bit. I suppose if you were handy during the fabrication process you could probably get the shape you are looking for. I would first test it out using one candle to see how well that works. Personally, pvc wouldn't be my first choice because of the heat and the possibility of leaching any chemicals into the wax that you may then burn indoors and breathe. It may be minimal, I don't really know; then again, most homes today all use pvc to move hot/cold water from ground to faucet. So, if you can find a tin mold, I would recommend that as first choice. You'll have to let me know how it goes. In any case though, have fun & happy candling!

      @Intombi-yomZULU, thank you for the question. I purchased the particular mold shown in this video at an antique store. You could try finding one there or try eBay as well. However, if you do a google search for 'Tin Candle Molds' you will find many across multiple sites for sale including amazon. Hope this helps!

    • @Just-N-Time
      @Just-N-Time  Před 2 měsíci

      @developer2023 I personally have not made any Jewish Menorah candles. It's definitely something that can be done fairly easily though, with a little bit of attention to details. It would just require following a specific set of specifications to have a uniform and consistent outcome.

    How many ounces of wax did you use to make those candles in that mold?

    • @Just-N-Time
      @Just-N-Time  Před 5 měsíci

      @Robi1kenobi1, using the antique candle mold you see in this video, it takes 2 ounces of wax to make each candle. This was a 12 candle mold, so you would need a minimum of 24 ounces for the candles & you'd want a little extra to use for error & shrinkage during the process.

      Another company you may want to try for beeswax or American made bee products would be Mann Lake Ag & Honey Supply www.mannlakeltd.com . I've been to their 'Blue Ridge Honey Co.' Location in Lakemont, Ga & they carry a lot of good products. Great talking with you. Hope this helps!
