My first Star Wars video. Never did I expect how big this would get, which made me so proud of the impact that this had. This just goes to show how passionate the Star Wars fan community is and how much they cherish the story of Anakin Skywalker. George's message is clear, always hold on to hope. Although dangerous, it is one of the most powerful things to hold on to, second to loving one another and never giving up. Loved the reaction Gaxelle! May the Force be with you, always.

It always gets me when I think when Anakin realized that Luke loved him even though he was given little reason to and would never give up on him after most everyone he cared about had given up on him and he and them thought he was too far gone to change, it made him remember who he is and save his son whom he loved. Love was the reason he fell to the darkness but it was also what brought him back. He was finally free.

I always imagine Padme’s spirit calling out to Anakin in those moments just before he turns against Palpatine to save their son Luke. Only this time Anakin answers her by saying “I love you too Padme….I’m sorry Padme, for all of it”. Padme would probably tell him to stop hating himself, and to forgive himself. She would then tell him that he can still do right by her by saving Luke.

Yes I believe Obi-Wan and Yoda, while flawed in certain respects, also did the very best they could, given everything that was going on. You could tell that Obi-Wan definitely cared for Anakin in his own way even though he was more rigid than Qui-Gon (and also that Anakin definitely grew to care for Obi-Wan too). He wasn’t a bad master, just imperfect. Also, if it weren’t for Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke and Leia very well could’ve ended up dying along with their mother.
Even given Anakin’s tough circumstances, it still doesn’t morally justify the things he did. Some of the council’s distrust is actually understandable, even though some of their ways were flawed. Anakin was the one who ultimately made the (admittedly tough) decision to actually betray and kill the Jedi. The council never actually blatantly betrayed or tried to kill him, they just had reservations, etc. Windu told Anakin that he would’ve gained his trust if what he told him about Palpatine/Sidious was indeed true.
What ultimately saved the galaxy was family ties, non-aggression, and self-sacrifice. Luke was driven by his care for his father, sister, and friends. He learned that the way to save his father was through NOT fighting him, whereas the emperor tried to arouse his anger by making him fight his father.
The mistake that Anakin made when he became Vader was that he was deceived into the belief that he could save his loved ones through giving into aggression and violence as the means. Luke learned that the way to save his loved ones was not through violence, but through self-sacrifice. When Vader saw that his son was willing to sacrifice himself to save his father, it inspired him to sacrifice himself for his son.

4:16-"Too many." You've got that right. I love the depth that the Clone Wars has added to Revenge of the Sith, especially with the reveal that Anakin's distrust and resentment towards the Jedi Council didn't spring up out of nowhere, it had to build up steadily for months, if not years. Their machinations have both broken the trust and faith that he has put in them as a Jedi Knight, violated his ideal of what the Jedi Order should be, put a strain between him and the man he's loved as a father, and drove his apprentice away based on politics and false charges. When they asked him to take part in their schemes-by asking him to spy on a man he has admired and respected for his entire adult life and disrespecting him by giving him a seat among their ranks without making him one of their number, things went from simmering to boiling, and when Mace Windu attempted to execute Palpatine without trial or even an arrest, everything spilled over.

      @jmwilliamsart Před rokem +2

Indeed, the Jedi had become too ossified by dogma, they had also become too arrogant, and too detached from the average people. The Jedi never showed Anakin any trust, they always treated him like he was a time bomb waiting to go off. Anakin was an emotionally damaged boy who needed love, and a family, and the Jedi failed to give him that.

The problem is is that Anakin was caught in between the Jedi and the Siths respective hubris.
Technically Anakin should’ve left the order after Ahsoka but before revenge of the Sith and really the only thing that stopped him was his belief in Palpatine over everybody else.
I just recently re-watched the chosen one special feature from the revenge of the Sith original DVD release and I really like how George explains how Anakin even as a Vader is still the chosen one.

And Ahsoka if you think about how she got her Silver/White lightsabers and her journey from Clone Wars to Rebels.
It's extremely difficult because once you go down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny. It has a huge impact on your mental state as well and takes incredible strength to break free from that mindset.

Often, if not always, once the dark side took hold of them, they were consumed and engulfed in it's grasp until death gave them their release. As a result, both the Jedi and the Sith, in canon at least, came to believe that once someone who started in the light fell to the dark, that was all that remained in their life. It's possible that this was due to the many wars the Jedi and Sith engaged in, if one side fell to the other, the former didn't have the luxury of reclaiming once original alignment in the Force, and as such sought to eradicate what remained.

Luke was a symbol of pure hope. That’s why him giving up on Ben solo just doesn’t make sense. His father cut his hand off, tortured his sister, tried/threatened to turn them both to the dark side, but still never gave up on him. Ben has bad dreams and Luke decides to kill him. You think he would have told him the dangers of the dark side and how his father fought and defeated it.

the fact that you're so irritated/affected by Luke Skywalker making a tragic mistake; is the EXACT reason why we see him the way he is. Because he agrees with you. That's not who he is. And the movies don't for one second try to appologize for the mistake he made. HOPE does not equal PERFECT. He's a symbol of pure hope, but does not have a track record of pure perfection. Expecting that of him, is the exact same pressure the Galaxy put on him as a galactic legend, and he couldn't live up to that legend status because that's larger than life. You expecting him to be perfect is the exact same thing that drove him to seclusion. ((and by the way it's opposite, it's the sight of his nephew that stops him. The darkside vision sparked his reaction instinct, not the thought of his nephew))

A few things, Anakin got a brother from Obi-wan but what he needed was a Father that would have been Quigon. That was the duel of the fates, was it going to be a father or a brother who guided him and raised him, not Sith vs Jedi.
Remember the Emperor told Luke to take up his light saber and Strike him down and his Journey to the Dark side would be Complete. Luke DID take up his lightsaber to strike him down, he gave in to his frustration and fear and loathing of the Emperor and in that moment became SITH, so there were THREE SITH in the Throne room for a few seconds. The only thing missing from that exact moment is Padme's voice SCREAMING at Anakin to SAVE HIS SON. When he moved to stop Luke from completing his journey to the dark side Darth Vader ceased to exist and Anakin was returned to the light and became a Jedi again. For the remainder of the fight Anakin slowly pulled Luke back from the Dark Side and brought him to the light, that's why he searched his mind and discovered Leia, the true beacon of hope, love, joy and life. When he taunted Luke about her that's when Luke went from being on the attack ( trying to strike the Emperor down, Sith Path) and took up the Defense of everything that is good until the threat is gone (Doing what was needed but not losing control or losing perspective and being able to stop, Jedi Path).
The entire throne room fight in ROTJ was where the force went out of balance and where Anakin restored the Balance to the force. Order 66 was nothing more than a Sith Attack that the Jedi were blind to because they had closed themselves off from a portion of the living force, the passion and love and fear and confusion that is life and were no better than robots when they fell.

The Jedi decided to reject emotion because of the history they saw. They saw that strong emotions, passions, were the first step toward the Darkside. The early code was "emotion yet peace" but by the time of ROTS it was "There is no emotion, there is peace". They decided to repress emotions and deny attachments to stop Jedi from falling but ultimately they brought balance. The attachment between Luke and Vader actually brought balance. It just shows that the Jedi had lost there way before the Clone Wars started.

I mean Obi and Yoda "giving" up on Anakin is interesting. Mostly because they reghtfully did gave up on him in my opinion. He became a monster and sunk too deep in the dark side. And Obi wan could have never done what Luke did. Vader had such a deep hatred for Obi Wan at that point, that he could have never been able to turn him back to the light side. Not even Ahsoka was able to turn him back and in a way shee too also gave up on him, as she accepted Anakin's death and wanted to avange him, as seen in the season 2 finale of Rebels. Another point is that if you look at the situation in a different way, without Obi wan protecting and training Luke, (plus Yoda training Luke) he would have never been able to turn Anakin back. Obi and Yoda knew it was the Skywalker line that would bring balance. Plus Vader and Luke needed eachother to turn Anakin back. Without Luke, Vader would never turn back. This whole thing is really interesting.

Actually before Vader’s mask was broken Ahsoka convinced herself that it wasn’t actually Anakin until she saw his real face with her own eyes, and your point on Ahsoka giving up on trying to save him, it wasn’t because she thought it was too late for him anymore like Obi-Wan or Yoda. She just knew that she wasn’t going to be the one who was going to save him but she ALWAYS believed that there was still good in Anakin despite everything he did.

The Jedi had been in absolute control of pretty much every galactic power for over 400 years, give or take. Their religion became almost corporatized within their own ranks. A "too big to fail" type of system. Their utter hubris in their power made them ungodly easy for a sith as breathtakingly cunning as Sidius to manipulate.

Actually they have had history of Jedi turning back to the light after they went to the Dark side such as Quinlan Vos, but they just thought that he’d done too much and that because he was under “The” Sith Lord, and killing children, they thought he was beyond saving at that point. Flawed as that may be, it does make sense from their points of view.

I think the Jedi was so determined to avoid anything that could lead to the darkside because of the suffering inflicted in their cultural memory of the Sith... That they ended up throwing out of the good of love and family and the good that comes from expressing your feelings... Anakin just couldnt keep his emotions bottled having started as a slave and then losing his mum. The New Jedi need to realise the dark is part of them.

It makes perfect sense that Yoda and Obi-Wan gave up on Anakin after seeing all the things he had done combined with the teachings they are literally taught the moment they can first speak.
(It’s why Jedi started recruiting force sensitives from birth post Ruusan reformation, they thought doing this would discourage Jedi from being tempted by the dark side, and for the most part they were right, when you take someone from birth and then teach them only your ways all their life, you’ll be raising whole generations utterly loyal to you, unfortunately they stagnated as well.)
If Anakin had been born during any other Jedi era he may have had a chance at a good life, unfortunately for him he was born during an era where the Jedi were at their most strict in their adherence to the Jedi code.

Luke never gave up on Anakin because he wasn't held back by the strict dogma of the Jedi Order. It's important that those failures aren't continued into the future

Just a gentle quibble about how Luke never gave up on Anakin, though Kenobi gave up on Anakin. To be totally fair, Kenobi might not have sensed the goodness left in Anakin on Mustafar because Anakin wasn’t a father yet, or because he still was too hardened by the Dark Side. Also, someone likely already brought this up, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Kenobi, subconsciously or consciously, was jealous of Anakin. Here he was, Qui-Gon’s padawan, star pupil, and now he had to share it with some kid who came almost literally out of nowhere. As Yoda might say: Obscured his senses, jealousy has.

Basically all those to come back, died in self-sacrifice. And were forgotten. One of the Droma brothers I believe, Darth Gravid, Revan(the only possible exception, but he was stripped of his memories first), and other examples are dubious. And the Jedi were not ones to look for better ways, due to the very nature of their code. Bastilla came back back was regarded as a gray jedi ever since. She and Revan were pretty much ousted from the inner circles of the order, and told not to spread their philosophy(which they basically saw as dangerous heresy).

It's not that there were no cases of redemption throughout the history of the Jedi, it was just so rare. It was against the norm for someone to turn then redeem themselves back to the light. And in the few cases there was a redemption, it was usually only after they had caused a large amount of damage. Two famous cases would be Revan and Ulic Qel-Droma (a jedi from about 100 years before Revans time). We already know Revans story, the wars he fought and the damage he caused to the Galaxy.
Ulic fell to the dark side because he kept relying more and more on his anger to win battles. He eventually joined forces with another fallen Jedi called Exar-Kun and the two launched one of the most devastating wars against the Republic in history. He only returned to the light after killing his own brother in a duel, and in his grief turned on Exar-Kun and killed him. Only then for his former lover, Nomi Sunrider, to forcefully sever his connection to the Force. Ulic spent his remaining years in self imposed exile. He redeemed himself when Nomi's daughter Vima sought him out to learn the ways of the Force from him.
Surprisingly, despite being severed from the Force, Ulic proved a skilled teacher to Vima. Upon his reunion with Nomi she acknowledged that he was no longer a servant of the Dark side and was worthy of redemption... Only for Ulic to be gunned down by a passerby seeking fame by killing the "War criminal". Nomi held her former lover until, to everyones shock, Ulic's body faded and became one with the Force.
Yoda was aware of these stories of redemption, but he held them in little regard. Their turns back to the light were often sudden, and forced upon them in some drastic manner. For Revan, his memories were altered and it was only through his love for Bastilla that he did not fall again. For Ulic, the shock of killing his own brother and being severed from the Force. While we as the audience recognize the nuances behind their redemption, Jedi Masters like Yoda would only know these stories through history books. While also being separated by thousands of years.
Fun Fact of the day: In Knights of the Old Reublic, Vima Sunrider was supposed to be the main female lead. However due to copyright issues with the name "Sunrider" the character that was intended to be Vima was changed into "Bastilla Shan".

The Jedi were very narrow minded when it came to people who even dabbled a little in the dark side, they assumed thay at that point you were beyond redemption and could not be turned back so they put dark side users in prisons such as the citadel a LONG time ago in the star wars universe. I don't think they ever heard of a sith turning back at that point and didn't even bother trying to test it or thinking of the possibility.

The Jedi Council and Order couldn't see past their own Dogma and truly trust in the Force to bring fallen Jedi back to the light. Their dogma also said the light was the ultimate achievement when the balance was the truth. Revan was a Jedi that became a very powerful Sith and then turned back to the light. They ignored that. The Jedi Order was just as flawed as the Sith and was just as responsible is pushing Anakin to the dark side.
In SW Legends, there was the Altisian Jedi, led by Master Djinn Altis, that encouraged love and marriage of Jedi. Anakin was with them for a while and they offered for him to join them so he could be at peace with his love for Amidala. That sect seemed to me like what the Jedi Order should actually be.

Well also it can also come across as Yoda and Obi-wan actually didn't want Luke to kill Anakin, but he needed to find that out on his own. Reason why I say that is because when Yoda tells Luke to go into the Dark Cave he says "your weapons, you will not need those." He knows Vader is in there and knows Luke should not kill him, but like I said Luke needs to find out on his own. Lastly when Luke cuts Vader's head off in the cave, it is another lesson on how killing him is not the way to go. That's the way I interpret it at least.

But because Anikan had much fear in him , he committed to the dark side alas with the intentions of doing good. But because of the lies of Palapitine and the evil deeds Anakin committed, he was enveloped and consumed by evil. But, in his darkness he held on to one hope - his son Luke. When it came time for Vader to give up his soul entirely to darkness or save his son, he chose what saved him.

With the exception of the younglings getting killed, I was actually kind of happy the Jedi order was destroyed in Revenge of The Sith. I kind of got tired of their high and mighty attitude and how they always thought that what they were doing was right. Their pride was their downfall. I really disagreed with the fact that they thought it was wrong for Jedi to love. I totally understand why Anakin lost his way, and I totally cheered when Ahsoka chose to leave the order. I know I wouldn't go to a Jedi if I was in trouble. They are apparently just trained to be cold, heartless, unfeeling warriors who only care about the problems they think are worth their time.

I think the Jedi Council shows the flaws of many religions and ideologies in real life. How traditions and rules become more important than the principles they initially had. How they get "corrupted" because the very same men that follows them have flaws. And when someone notices that flaws, is marked as heretic somehow. I think that's why Yoda and Obi-Wan were so rigid concerning Anakin. Or maybe it was to show how similar the Jedi and the Sith had become. When Obi-Wan says to Anakin that only a Sith deals in absolutes, and Yoda and Obi-Wan did the same thing, believing Anakin was gone for good, that he couldn't return to the light side. Idk, just a thought.

It is important to note that the Sith had been gone, or believed gone, for almost a thousand years by the time of Anakin, and before that the Jedi had fought a bloody war to end them for all time. The Jedi at the end of that war showed no compassion for the Sith, even those that had been Jedi, all they wanted was to destroy the dark side, and in that, they failed. Darth Bane survived, and found a child that the Jedi, in their arrogance, set her on a the path to become his apprentice. Darth Bane, and the Sith that came after him nurtured that arrogance, the idea that the Jedi were always right and could not lose, this was the essence of the Sith Grand Plan, by the time of Sidious they were blinded by their pride. Mace Windu showed that by violating everything that he had been taught. In that moment Vader was truly born.
Fun fact: Darth Bane came up with the Rule of Two in legends after studying Darth Revan's holocron.

Even up to the end, as the Emperor was slowly killing his son, he struggled with the conflict. It wasn't until that last moment, when he realized that through his son, he could seek redemption and end the conflict within him and realize his role as The Chosen One, as Qui-Gon and Obi Wan believed.
